Rating: Summary: Best read in Five Years! Review: For anyone who thinks their private hell is unique. There's hope for all of us in this book, it's a novel but it rings truer than the Encyclopedia Britannica. You can't not read this book if you want to get on with your life.
Rating: Summary: Depressing but realistic. Review: Extremely well written. Takes you into the life of a girl living on the border of suicide.
Rating: Summary: Definitely not a page turner. Review: I recently read this book for a local book club. Although it was an easy read and somewhat held my interest, I was a little disappointed. This book was totally hyped up for no apparent reason. It just went from one sorry scene to the next. But I must say that Wally Lamb's style of writing was great.
Rating: Summary: A book I could identify with! Review: I really enjoyed this book because it took me back to my youth and brought back many memories. Although I could not relate entirely with the protaganist I certainly could relate to the pain and loathing she felt at most points in her life. Lamb makes his characters jump out and you, a terrific read.
Rating: Summary: Amazingly ficticious, but somehow real! Review: This is the first book in a long time that I've had a chance to just sit down and read and I must say what a good book. Wally Lamb does an excellent of capturing the essence of a troubled woman. The reader sees her tradegies and her triumphs in life and can easily sympathize with her. But more than that, Lamb does an exquisite job of placing the reader into the time period. Throughout the whole book I felt transported back into the time period in which he was writing. This was especially true when Delores went to college. Another reason why I liked this book so much was the way that Mr. Lamb integrated issues into the book such as racism and historical events. Finally the reason why I would recommend this book to a friend is because most of the things that happened in this book could happen to a person that we know. It could be the neighbor next door, or the girl down the hall. It sheds some light on very painful and emotional situations such as obesity, death, ! and family issues. A must read for anyone who is ready to experience an ephiany.
Rating: Summary: Addicted. You were there with her. Review: Yes, it was depressing and you felt sorry for her because she was only 14 and all this was happening in her life. A wonderful book. I couldn't put it down. I recomend it to anyone who likes real-life storys.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: Deep enough for the serious reader; simple enough for the beginner. Touching, hilarious, fulfilling. You will fall in love with Dolores Claiborne; laughing, crying, beciming a part of her soul. A must read for anyone of any age.
Rating: Summary: A funny and sarcastic tale of life's trials & tribulations Review: Lamb's book is an emotional roller coaster. I found myself laughing through tears. It was very easy to imagine myself in Dolores' shoes and feel her pain. I often felt as if I was living out the events of her life with her. I applaud Lamb for such captivating literature. Even though the book was emotionally draining at times, I still found myself curious about Dolores and returned for more. A great buy.
Rating: Summary: Good book...bad ending. Review: I was impressed with the realism of this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the last 50 pages disappointed me so much that I wanted to throw the book across the room. Yes, Mr. Lamb had an ending that is representative of "real life" but isn't the reason we often read books is to "escape reality." I found it unfortunate that in the end, Dolores never got what she truly wanted...a child... Yes...life's not fair, but can't the end of a book be?
Rating: Summary: excellent book, worth reading over and over Review: i thought the book was excellent, it really touched home with a lot of subjects for me. you really get into it and can't hardly put it down. i am eagerly awaiting to see how wally lamb's second book will turn out.
