Rating: Summary: The best book I have EVER read! Review: This is truly a touching, compelling and heartwarming novel. When you finish you will miss Dolores.
Rating: Summary: A heartbreaking story, Review: This book broke my heart with every page. It was wonderfully written. I wished though, that Dolores could've had a child. It was so inspirational that she moved on from every wrong turn her life took her.
Rating: Summary: Depressing, but you just can't put it down. Review: I must admit, I picked up the book in the store due to Oprah's endorsement. Despite a busy schedule, I couldn't put it down. I felt that Lamb made an earnest effort to get into the skin of a girl/woman who suffered all Dolores endured. However, I agree with a friend who commented: "Although he tried, his writing still had too many square-ish angles to have been written by a woman. It should have had a more rounded, more connected feel." I didn't mind the not-very-happy ending, but I felt that Dolores' mental illness and fear of men could have been more realistically treated, more three-dimensional. Honestly, after reading the book, I'm not sure if I enjoyed it exactly. And I'm not terribly eager to read _I Know This Much Is True_, because I would rather not get that depressed by a book.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but, at times, horribly depressing. Review: The main character definitely has some problems in her early life. Fortunately, I kept reading because I couldn't imagine there being no light at the end of the tunnel for her! Boy, am I glad I did! From her extremely sad childhood to the help she received for her mental problems, I stayed an avid reader, even though at times the text was extremely depressing to read. However, I felt that the ending was very uplifting (did I understand correctly?), almost "too good to be true". This is my first Wally Lamb novel; I definitely see myself going back for more!
Rating: Summary: This book was wonderful. Review: I found the book to be very entertaining. I couldn't wait to pick it up and could hardly put it down.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, amusing, and ultimately a great read Review: Well, I always enjoy especially reading the "bad" reviews on here before writing anything myself. It always serves to amuse me. Be that as it may, I have to preface my comments by saying that anyone, male or female, who buys a book only because some woman on television says to really has no right to complain. Come on, folks, use your brain--Oprah's a talk show host, not a literary mind. And finally, I don't care who writes a book, man, woman, whatever, as long as what's written is true and believable, which this was. ANYWAY, I loved this book; thought it was just simply wonderful, especially the end. I think it has a lot to say about the nature of love and the struggle of life. The only note that rang slightly false with me was the characterization of Dante--I kept wondering how he moved from a sensitive, prospective Lutheran minister to the dolt he became.
Rating: Summary: Great new author! Can't-put-down reading! Review: I enjoyed this book because it's written in a fresh style. Very hard to put it down. It's in turns very funny, extremely sad, and thought-provoking. Real people, real issues, real life.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book! Review: Lamb's coming of age novel was one of the best I have read in a long time. Dolores reminded me of many women I know in the sense that she had troubled romances but came back strong.
Rating: Summary: wonderful, moving story Review: I have never been a reader of books but I decided to read this book after hearing about it. I started it and couldn't put it down. It changed my outlook on life and reading. This book left me wanting more!!!!
Rating: Summary: Thank you, wally lamb, BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO, LOVED IT!!!! Review: A wonderfully written story, with a likeable character. I will never forget Delores Price and her growing pains. How Lamb portrays a female so well is mind boggling to me. I have loaned this book to more friends and highly recommend it to anyone, even if you don't like to read. I could not put this book down and stayed awake many nights until 4 am. The trials and tribulations of Delores Price are sad, funny and heart wretching at times. I loved this book and it was a true enjoyment to read!!!!
