Summary: A funny bunny vampire book!
Review: This book is a very good book. My teacher read it to me and I think that Chester the cat reads too much mystery books. I thought Harold was the smartest even though he thought Bunnicula was a vampire for a little while. I liked this book because it was very funny. You should read it, it's cool! (Joie Converse age 8

Summary: We loved this book.
Review: Bunnicula is a very good book because it is funny. In this book a cat can read, a dog can write and a bunny sucks juice out of vegetables. Read this book and you will find out how to get rid of vampires, even bunny vampires.
Kids won't like this mystery; they'll love it! If you like animals, you will love this book.
So, if you want to find out more, read the book Bunnicula by James and Deborah Howe.

Summary: Oh no, its a... a... vampire bunny! Elmer Fud, watch out!!!
Review: When a family bring a seemingly-innocent rabbit home from the famouse vampire movie "Dracula" and name it Bunnicula, total chaos breaks out. When Harold the dog and Chester the cat suddenly find white vegetables drained of their juices, they suspect their sharing a house with a vampire bunny! Read this book, and you'll be in fits of laughter before the second page!

Summary: Shouldn't have re-read it
Review: Bunnicula and the rest of the books in the series were among my favorites when I was a small child. I recently picked up the first 3 books in a thrift shop, and I am sorry I did, because reading Bunnicula as an adult just wasn't as fun. There are too many holes in the story and things that don't make sense. For instance, in one scene, Harold (the dog narrator) is bewailing the fact that he can't see in the dark. In a few more paragraphs, he sees a drained vegetable on the floor of the dark kitchen! Harold and Chester (the cat) really act like people, unlike some other anthropomorphized animals in children's literature, such as the Redwall animals; when Harold is mad at Chester, he puts his paws around Chester's neck. Have you ever seen a dog try to strangle a cat? Wouldn't a growl have been more in keeping with canine behavior? Also, although the simplicity of the plot suggests a lower reading level (it says 6th grade on the cover, although I think I was in about 3rd when I originally read it), the vocabulary is more suited to an older reader, which is a little incongruous. Another reviewer has already mentioned the problem of Harold's penchant for chocolate; dogs shouldn't eat chocolate! In addition, Harold and Chester are really nasty to each other. It is hard to believe they are even friends. I don't think their attitude towards one another is a good example for children. On the other hand, I did laugh at loud at some parts of this book, and as I said I enjoyed in immensely when I was a child. However, the problems in the book would prevent me from ever recommending it to any child I know; there are a great many better books for children in this age group.

Summary: Still Wonderful
Review: A wealth of accolades - more than two decades' worth by now - testifies to the timelessness of this wonderful story. It's full of charm and humor and verve, and deserves recognition as a classic in children's literature.

Summary: Bunnicula
Review: This is an excellent humorous story for all ages. The tale involves a family and their two pets, Chester the cat, and Harold the dog. One night the family returns to their house with a small rabbit, whom Chester believes is a vampire bunny. What ensues is a heartwarming hilarious mystery, which both Chester and Harold try to uncover.

Summary: Authors should revise
Review: In Bunnicula, the dog talks about liking CHOCOLATE cake. This might give kids the idea to feed chocolate to their dog. I'm surprised that the authors used this vehicle because chocolate is extremely toxic to dogs. One ounce of baking chocolate can kill a small dog. The authors could have used pound cake (get it?), or bundt cake or any other types of sweet dessert -- snickerdoodles for example. I hope they will revise future editions of Bunnicula.
