Summary: My favorite read of the summer!
Review: I missed Tristan and Maggie as soon as I closed the book. I told all my friends to buy a copy!

Summary: An unforgettable read.
Review: I read this wonderful book in one sitting. I could not stop thinking about the central characters after I finished. I was delighted as well as saddened. This book really touched me, and the next day I found myself in my "wild", unmanicured garden weeding and thinking about Maggie and Tristan and their love of gardening and each other. For those of you who loved this story, please read Jeanne Ray's novel "Julie and Romeo".

Summary: It has everything an adult could ask for.
Review: I received the book Night Gardening for Christmas when both my garden and myself were at our worst. I had not been able to care for my garden during the previous months, so could relate to the heartbreak that Maggie felt about her neglected garden. The story was well written about an adult romance involving two people I fell in love with myself. This book will be as perennial as the roses in my garden and will continue to bring much joy when I read it. I have recommended it to several of my friends.

Summary: A Garden Lover's Love Story
Review: I thought this book was a beautiful love story!! About two people who share their passion for gardening and much much more. Just like the garden that came to life once again, so did the passion they both had hidden in their souls. The author depicts Maggie's struggle with her disabling illness, her children's alcoholism, and her own doubts of being a failure raising her children. Many of these struggles are what women go through at some point in their lives, and one that I can I identify with. Sometimes we need to weed out and discard the bad stuff in our lives, so that we can grow, flourish and blossom in all our glory. I couldn't put the book down. Better have the tissue box handy for this book! Hope to read more books like this one by Kathryn Lasky (a.k.a E.L. Swann).

Summary: What a rare find of a book.
Review: I took this book with me on vacation this year and after I read it, I did not want to read any other type of book that I had brought along - my sister felt the same way, as did the lady who lives in the area of where we vacation (we all read it). The characters were so real - it was as if I really knew them. Definitely a love story that should have continued until this day. I have seen Kathryn Lansky on Book TV (Ms. Swann's other name) and she really has a love for children's books. I would love to see more of Night Gardening types of books in the future. You owe it to yourself to read and savor this one.

Summary: Draws you into its world of exotic flora and real people.
Review: If you like gardening and are over a certain age, your romantic soul will burst at the pathos and hope in this neatly crafted tale! Though not a true romance, it's a love story to remember. At least that's how it hit me. Don't want to give the ending away, but you have to have suffered a bit in life, and be a fighter in your womanly (or male) heart, to appreciate it. Read it in an evening or spread the pleasure out over a few days. Night Gardening is the summer's best gift!

Summary: Romance is not just for the young
Review: If you love gardening and if you love romance, then this is the book for you. I've read thousands of romance novels, but this is by far one of the most subtly erotic, tender, beautiful, enchanting, bittersweet tales I've ever read. You come away knowing that love is not merely for the young or the perfectly healthy person. Maggie and Tristan renewed my faith in love and life.

The gardening knowledge in each chapter is worth the price of the book alone and seeing the exotic gardens at night through Maggie and Tristan's eyes was hypnotically mesmerizing. This is a beautifully written book. I went and planted some Moonflowers after reading it to enhance my own night garden. . .

Summary: I was carried away and didn't want to leave.
Review: Maggie and Tristan found each other just in time! One must have the opportunity to love and be loved at least once. The restorative power of love is shown not just in Maggie's recovery but in the recovery of her once beautiful garden. Only with maturity could this two come together so passionately, trusting and completely. It was clear in the end that Tristan would continue to feel Maggie's presence through his work. Please, please make this into a movie...with Ann Margaret as Maggie and Gabriel Bryne as Tristan.

Summary: love in full bloom
Review: Maggie and Tristan seem as far apart as the brick wall that separates them...and certainly as different. She is recovering from a stroke, he is hard at work demolishing the garden wall that separates them. Slowly, enticingly, a friendship and romance blossoms against a backdrop of all things beautiful. Maggie is in love, Tristan is awakend. If you loved "Bridges", you will love this book even more for its rich, believable characters and its nod to profound love in the golden years. Captivating and real.
