Rating: Summary: Must have for DL fans Review: I have yet to read a book by Weis and Perrin that wasn't a 5 star book :o)
Rating: Summary: Suprisingly good book Review: I never thought I would like a book about draconians but the characters were well thought out and suprisingly endearing. For once I got to see things from the draconians point of veiw. I guess the fact that it's a Margaret Weis is a big plus for it.
Rating: Summary: excellent book but... Review: this is a truly funny and touching story about a bunch of most unlikely beings. The draconians are great, and you'd most probably be rooting for them right from the start. However, i wonder if anyone noticed that the plot for this book is almost identical to that of another, more famous book? i'm referring to < Watership Down >, that "rabbit" book. ^_^ even the characters are similar. eg. Kang, obviously = Hazel ;Slith = Blackberry/Dandelion also, the situation the draconians are in is so similar to that of the rabbits! both are unable to continue their race due to lack of females. in <the doom brigade>, Kang leads a band of followers to a hostile place to try and retrieve the females. as did Hazel in <watership down>. they both suffered similar losses after their first attempt to leave the warren/village. both Kang and Hazel recieved a "vision" to help defeat their enemies, the fire dragons and woundwort respectively, via Huzzard and Fiver. both of them suffered when they singlehandedly try to attempt a great feat. Hazel ended up in a drain, while Kang got trapped under a load of rock.... the draconians decided to leave the army after deciding that it was a lost cause; the rabbits decided to leave the sandleford warren because Fiver felt that the warren was doomed... the similarities are endless.but even so, this is a fine book, which all dragonlance fans should have on their shelves. you might also want to grab a copy of <Watership Down> as well. ^__^
Rating: Summary: Surprising! Imaginative! Great! Review: After looking at the front of the book and reading the back, I was a little skeptic about how good it was. My first thought was, " how are these big, stupid lizards actually surviving on Krynn? I thought they all died out during the War of the Lance." So after I read all my other new books I read this one out of boredom and idle curiosity. It turned out to be the best of the books I had recieved. Not only does it provide a deep look at the loyalty, intelligence and uniformity of the draconians, it also expresses how the weight of despair sits on them. And since it does take place in the Chaos War, Kang(commander of the draconians) eventually leads his troops to against someone other than the dwarfs at about 3/5 of the way through the book. The book starts out with the dwarfs peacefully attacking the draconian village. Apparently, the two races have worked out a mutual agreement; something like, "if you don't kill us we won't kill you." Anyway, a dwarf in the dwarven settlement across the valley from the draconians gets hold of a journal with a map. The journal describes a Deawar journey to find a great storeroom full of Highlord treasure. This party of Daewar also found draconian eggs that housed female draconians. The whole story sort of hinges on those eggs because only male draconians were hatched to fight for the Dark Queen. I'll let you read the book to find out what happens next.=)
Rating: Summary: Its the best and it well always be the best! Review: To me this book is outstanding. The plot is very exciting and describtive. The whole story is about a race called the draconiaons, and how they survive. And if their kind will become exctinct. Plus this book has lots of battles that are describtive. For all the people who like medival fantasy books with battles I perscibe this book to you. And if you read this and find it pleasing, you should read Heroes and fools; which is also by Margret Weis.
Rating: Summary: Evil People Have Feelings Too! Review: A few Christmas's ago, I put on my Christmas list "Dragonlance-The Chaos War Series", thinking it the title of the triliogy with such titles as "The Dawning of a New Age", etc. Instead, I received two books that really held the title. Among them was a vibrantly-colored novel entitled "The Doom Brigade", which caught my eye because of the dragon on the cover. It was the best mistake I ever made. Before I read The Doom Brigade, I had always pictured draconians as pure evil, and not once considered that they were creatures that had feelings. My thoughts and stereotypes were immediatly changed after the first chapter(Which I had sampled upon my completion of "Dragons of Summer Flame"). One thing that especially piqued my interest was the prospect of the female draconians, and the story as to how they were never born. Kang, the roughly 200 draconian's leader as well as the subcommander Slith are suprisingly easy to understand, they are so well portrayed by the authors. What makes this story so intriguing is the way you see bits of the War of the Lance through the other side's point of view. Being recently given the technical term of "teenager", the question of how others see things should be interesting to apply in real life. If you don't own this book already, you seriously need to obtain a copy as soon as possible! It has personally replaced "Mariel of Redwall" as my all-time favorite!
Rating: Summary: Doom Brigade Review Review: Doom Brigade was an awesome book. It had almost everthing a fantasy reader would want. It had the two main fantasy things: magic and dragons. Magic was used throughout the book. But the dragons came towards the end. the book is about a band of draconians who escaped their masters and built a small village. They where poor farmers so the stole from their neighbors, the dwarves. The dwarves stole from the draconians. So each side used clubs and other weapons instead of swords. Though the draconians always carried a sword with them just in case they got into real trouble. The draconians stole food and other things. Though they tried to get alot of dwarven spirits. Which is like beer and liqour I think. The dwarves steel gold, sheep, and other things. The draconians that know spells dont use them to kill any dwarves so don't think that. The dragons come towards the end but that part will ruin the story if i told you. This book is really good and I the people who like Dragonlance books should read this one.
Rating: Summary: So draconians are humane after all Review: The first time you see join an adventure and see it through a draconian's eye. This book displays the draconian society (with great success) and we embark on a journey as one of the most evil and dangerous opponent the heroes of the lance have had to overcome.
Rating: Summary: a great book Review: When the original heroes died in dragons of summer flame i was devistated. no more raistlin, tanis, caramon, tasselhoff, gold moon or riverwind, and the second generation really didn't entise me that mutch. i mean the best charectors i ever read were gone! what was the use of reading a dragon lance book that didn't have them in it? but this book is diffrent. it drove me into dragon lance again. just becuse every one had died in the 4th cronicle didn't mean that there arn't any good charecters left. Take my advice get this book it is worth it!
Rating: Summary: Too bad the Plot is unoriginal Review: The Dragonlance series was my first experience with the fantasygenre over 10 years ago. Since then, I have read many fantasy booksand dabbled into D&D gaming. I thought this book was well written and humorous at points. The only thing is that the plot is unoriginal. It's straight out of your typical AD&D game: find a treasure map, go through a dungeon, defeat a monster, get the treasure, the end. I read fantasy to be presented with something new or a twist on an old subject. Unfortunately, this book did neither. You will be entertained, but the plot has been done a thousand times before
