Rating: Summary: Slow start; couldn't put down finish Review: This is the 1st White novel I have read. I really enjoyed Kristen Lord, her daughter, Amy and really liked Carl Lupo, in my opinion, the hero of the story. I really didn't like the Alan Gregory character, who I gather from previous reviews is a continuing character in White's books; his wife Lauren on the other hand was inspirational. I also agreed with another reviewer re: the annoyance of the "whales". It was certainly interesting to read about the policies of the Witness Protection Plan. I could not stop for the last 100 or so pages. I will read another Stephen White novel in the future.
Rating: Summary: One of the best thrillers Review: This story hooked me right in the beginning and didn't let go. I hated to see it end and yet I read it quickly to find out how it was going to end. The suspense was keeping me on the edge of my seat at all times. I loved this novel and thought it was one of the best written stories I have read.I enjoyed the narration changing from Kirsten/Peyton to Alan to others in the woven story. It kept my interest as the main character, Kirsten/Peyton moved from the point of her husband's murder to Boulder, Co into the Witness Protection Program. There was always something happening to her and others----never boring. When Kristen/Peyton was the narrator, there was such a great sense of humor. I found myself laughing outloud at some of the writing. It was almost hard to believe that there could be so much humor in the story of a hit man and murder. The ending was quite intense----I'd love to read a sequel containing many of these characters. I haven't read anything by this author in the past----but if this is any indication of his writing skills, I'll be reading him in the future.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: When I read the first chapter of this I didn't know if I was going to like this book or not, because I didn't know what was going on with what few details it gave. It goes straight to action without no introduction. Which, after you start reading it, makes it even more interesting as it tells the story and everything else you need to know. The main character, Kirsten, will probably be a well liked character, especially her daughter. I like how Stephem White writes in this book. How he tells a story is like telling a great story to one of your friends. No fancy talk or too much descriptions, bur just *real* conversation. Not alot of authors use that. I could never put this book down because I was desperate to know what would happen next. There is a lot of surprises in this book, romance being one. I never saw Carl as the romantic type until the main character did. Whenever he was helping her escape and especially at the end of the book. The end was most suspensful and was like watching a good action movie. This book describes what happens when you need help from a so called enemy after you try to bring them down. Not everybody will be on your side, but you have better people to help you out.
Rating: Summary: Far From His Best Review: White isn't a great writer, but I've enjoyed all his books because of his characters. This book, however, is simply boring and the writing is even worse than usual. A very big disappointment, to say the least.
