Rating: Summary: Brian's Winter Review: Brian's Winter Beth Kickels A-4 Brian's Winter, written by Gary Paulsen, is about a thirteen year old boy who had to learn how to survive out in the wilderness by himself, after his plane crashed in the summer. The longer he stayed in the wilderness he realizes that its becoming winter. Also Brian noticed that he has to learn how to hunt for food out in the wilderness, be by himself, and in the later chapters of the book learn how to stay warm. Brian got through a lot of problems such as the food crisis and how he hunted the moose and deer later on in the book, but most of all Brian got through the troubles of keeping himself warm. He made an airtight shelter, a warm fire, and if it weren't for Brian hunting the rabbits, deer, and the moose he wouldn't have all the warm clothing that he made out of the skins of those animals, and also I doubt he would have survived the rest of the winter. All in all I did like this book and how they had such GOOD descriptions. But the thing I didn't like about this book was the ending and how it didn't really go well with the book. It was a good ending I would say but the pages leading into the end of the book were a little hard to understand. My rating of this book would have to be on a scale from 1-5 (1 being horrible and 5 being excellent) a 5 because this book had so many great descriptions and details. But also I gave it a 5 because this was the only fiction book that I read that seemed so real. I mean if I didn't know that it was fiction I would have thought that this was a non-fiction book.
Rating: Summary: Brains Winter Review: Brain's winter, by Gary Paulsen was about a boy named Brian Robeson. Brian was on his way to visit his father for the summer and his plane crashed killing the pilot, and stranding Brian in the wilderness alone. Brain got the necessary materials and survived during the summer. Now winter is coming, can Brian survive the bitter cold of the winter? Brian had his ups and his downs during the winter. Brian had to figure out how to make several different tools to survive such as a bow and arrow, all types of clothes, a lance, and snowshoes. Brain also had a few life and death encounters. A bear came to his camp twice and he probably would have been killed if it weren't for his pet skunk. He was also attacked by a moose that he was trying to hunt and barely survived that. He was also almost killed by an exploding tree, due to the bitter cold weather, that he was standing by and a huge sliver just missed his head. He also had to go out in the freezing cold to hunt and find firewood. I enjoyed this book for several reasons and they are once you get started reading this book you don't want to stop. You read one chapter and want to go on to the next to find out what will happen next. Another reason I enjoyed this book was because of the fact that that he was stranded in the wilderness and I like to camp and can relate to him a little. If I had to rate this book on a scale from one to ten I would give it an eight because it was interesting and existing, but I did not like the ending. It didn't give enough information or background. I would recommend this book to anyone because it is a must read for all readers. Over all it is a really good book and keeps you on the end of your seat wanting to know what will happen next.
Rating: Summary: Brians Winter Review: What would you do if you got into a plane accient and were stranded in the Canadian WIlderness? That is just what happened to 13 year- old Brian Robeson. Brian had to learn how to survive on his own without anyone to help him! He had no one to tlak to except for the animals, Brian had to make tools and weapons for hunting and he also had to make things in order for him to survive. Brian was brave enough not to give up!! If Brian had given up then he wouldn't have been living very long but he had faith in himself and kept saying to himself that he can do this. It's not easy to survive in the Canadian WIlderness; But Brian did. He went through alot of tough times, He had made friends with wolves and a skunk, Betty; he had been attacked by a bear. Brian also had to deal with the winter. Winter in Canada was HARSH. He had to hunt for food during with the wintertime, which was horrible. He had to make warm clothing for himself so he wouldnt freeze to death; and he started to get lonely and he would talk to himseld and then animals. He wouls sometimes pretent that the animals were his family and friends (they technically were his friends). I kind of liked this book and i kind of didn't. I liked it because it taught you survival tips and it told you and helped you realize how bad a Canadian Winter can be. I didn't like it because it really didn't interest me that much. I wasn't getting into the story as much as I thought I would. On a scale of 1-5 i would give this book a 3 becase it really showed you and taught you about the wilderness and because it didn't really interest me. The book didn't pull me in as you woulod say, but if you like these kinds of books that are about survival then you would like this book.
Rating: Summary: My Review For Reading Class Review: The book Brian's winter is about a boy named Brian Robeson. He takes a trip on an airplane and the aircraft has a malfunction and crashes. The pilot dies but Brian miraculously lives. In Brian's new life he faces many dangers and experiences many new things in the forest. Like exploding trees from cold winter nights. Also he learns how to hunt with a bow and arrow and learn how to survive by only he knowledge and skills of a good hunter. I would have to give this a seven out of an scale from one to ten. Because I like the book. The parts that I liked was when Brian thought that he could beat up a bear with a stick, and how he made a friend that was a skunk and named her Betty. The other part that I liked was when Brian heard something go boom in the trees. He later went to go explore it and found out that the trees explode when it gets to cold out. Then as he was looking at it the tree blew up right in front of him and nearly killed him. I like this book because it gave good details the author made me feel like I was in the book hunting and in the shelter feeling the warmth from the fire. I even imagined all of the pain that Brian had to go threw to live there. But he pulled threw and made it out of situations I thought he would have died in. The book also taught me many things about the forest and how to not abuse the things that I have because it can change anytime.
Rating: Summary: Book Critic on Brian's Winter, by Gary Paulsen Review: B.O' The book is a sequel to Gary Paulsen's pervious book, Hatchet. Summer has long since passed and it is fall already. Brian (the main character), who is trapped alone in the wilderness from a plane crash, made it through the summer. He notices changes in the weather, then nature tests him. Will he be able to make it in the winter, in extreme, arctic, sub-zero conditions? Through the winter he learns to adapt. He learns the concept - if the world doesn't adapt to you, you adapt to the world. He made an airtight shelter to live in complete with a fire pit and everything. He learns how to hunt, build tools, make food and make clothes. And make use of everything he had. Although by now he misses his family a lot, he has a calling, a calling to stay alive, come home and make it through the winter. I felt that this was a pretty good book. It was definitely in my top three favorites, which include Holes and After the War. I like how it was set up and created good imagery in my head by the way the author writes. You can almost see the book unfolding in your head right before your eyes. I liked how it went in a certain order following what happened to Brian through the seasons. It didn't skip around with things that happened in the past that can be confusing to read. When the author wrote about that bitter cold day I could actually feel the biting cold by how he described the forest that day and how still it was. I could really sense and feel the trees exploding. The only thing I didn't like was all of the killing of animals and the sometimes-graphic descriptions of their bloody slaughters. When these were depicted they went on for a long time and I just wanted it to be over. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this book a rating of 9 due to its great descriptions and detailed writing. Overall, I personally, I think this was a great novel. I loved it. It keeps you guessing till the end. It had lots of action and suspense. I liked it so much; I think I'll read it again, although I'm not much of a book person.
Rating: Summary: how i rate brians winter hey everyone read my short story Review: Brian's winter by Gary PaulsenI just finished reading a book called Brian's winter. In this book, a guy named Brian Robeson who is 13 and is trying to survive in the wild. He is all by himself. He got stranded in the wild from a plane crash he survived but that happened in the book written before brians winter. This book talks about how Brian survives in negative 30-degree temperatures. The reason the author made the story in winter is because it makes the story more interesting. The audience would think how could he survive when the water freezes it becomes cold and animals go into hybernation. This book describes how brian became a better survivor because Brian learned from his mistakes as we all do. This is one of the reasons why this book is realistic fiction. The author of this book is very smart about how to survive in the wild. I liked this book because the story was very realistic. The author of this book described the stories very well. In this book, Brian ran into several problems that I thought would not happen in the wild. I mainly liked this book because it gave me ideas that I never thought of. I liked it because it didnt seem to boring. This is the only survival book i ever read and I thought it was interesting. I would give this book an 8.5 out of 10. I didnt always understand it and parts of it wasn't interesting but most of it was. I gave it an 8.5 because I learned things I never thought of. It was interesting and Brian was so close to dying several times and that made it less boring.
Rating: Summary: Brian's Winter Review: In the novel Brian's Winter a boy named Brian Robeson gets in a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness. He was stuck there for about 94 days now. Well with in those days Brian made a lot of mistakes like not look at what is going on around you like the weather for example. Well Brian did pay attention to the animals like the beavers, bears, wolves, and rabbits. Brian first came to the Canadian wilderness with just a hatchet. But when Brian finally noticed what was going on around him he made things like snowshoes and a parka to help him survive. I liked the novel Brian's Winter because it gives you a lot of good survival tips to know how to live in the wilderness, if it ever happens to you at all in your lifetime. I also had a connection or to, like when he felt bad when he killed the animals, but you need to for you to survive. I also liked the way that the author kept on making you guess what was going to happen. That is what made me want to read the book more and more One of the dislikes that I had in the novel was that some of the graphics of when he killed some animals I thought it was gross. I think I would rate this book a 9 out of 1-10 because of some of the graphics but other than that I think it was a rather good book.
Rating: Summary: Brian's Winter Review: In Brian's Winter, Brian Robeson a 13-year-old boy stranded in the Canadian Wilderness. Learning how to survive on his own. He makes himself a home to sleep and eat. He hunts for food using the tools that he made. He used bow arrows to hunt his dinner and his knife to skin them. Plus it is winter and his clothes are ripped up almost. His clothing is bad. He uses rabbit's skin and deerskin for clothing. He makes snowshoes to walk around in the snow. One last thing he is stranded for 94 days all alone. What I liked about this story is that it is descriptive; when he kills the moose and skins it. Also when he learns how to make bow arrows, snow shoes. I like this book because it keeps you hanging at the end of each chapter. What I liked about is that you can imagine all the things that Brian does in the wilderness. What I didn't like about the book is sometimes there is nothing going on and it is boring. What I didn't like about the book is when he describes in details when he skins the moose. He is very descriptive then. The genre of this book is Realistic Fiction. I would probably give it from a scale of 1-5, a four. I like the book, but parts of it was boring. Also some parts you can easily misunderstand. Some parts you can imagine how he feels, just the way he talks. Also when he acts you can understand, why acts that way. All in all I liked this book; I really enjoyed reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Brians Winter Review: Brian's Winter is about a thirteen-year-old boy named Brian Robeson. Brian is stranded in the Canadian wilderness for 96 days and has to learn all about living in the wilderness all alone. Brian has to get through dangerous encounters with animals, and has to learn how to hunt animals in order to have food to eat. He learns how to make weapons and keep them strong so he would be able to hunt with the weapons he made. This is what the book Brian's Winter is about and how brain learns to stay alive. I liked this book Brian's Winter because it had a lot of description and I was able to picture in me mind what was happening in the book. Brian has to go through so many things like animals and how to stay out of their way and he learns so many things about the wilderness. He has to mark his territory so that the wolves know that's his spot and if he stays out of the wolves' way the wolves will stay out of his way. When winter came for Brian it was a whole different experience, no birds singing and it was harder for him to hunt with all the snow and the cold weather but Brian knew that he can pull through. Rating this book Brian's Winter was a hard decision because it was a really good book and there were a few things I didn't like about it so I rate this book a 4 out of 5. The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 out of 5 is because I didn't like the parts where Brian was cutting up the deer and the moose, because I could picture it in my head. Another thing I didn't like was when the wolves were eating the moose while the moose was alive and suffering. Overall the book Brian's Winter was really good and easy to read. If I were asked to read it again I would probably read it again.
