Rating: Summary: Something More, Definetely A Book for Courageous Women Review: I recently finished this book, which I had purchased strictly through coincidence as I had just read a small blurb about it in a magazine I was leafing through. Talk about synchronicity! I am so glad I found it and read it...slowly...just to go over it in my mind, and savor that feeling of "rightness" about what I had just read. There were certain section that didn't apply strictly to what I was experiencing at that moment in time, but it doesn't take much imagination or intelligence to take the true important message and apply it to another similar situation you might be experiencing, or store it away for possible, future use. The reason I think this book is for courageous women, is that I think that many women will read this book and acutally be SCARED...why? Because they will be reading about themselves and their lives, and they're just not ready to face that yet, and make the changes it would take to face their Authentic Self. To some it would mean relooking at their personal lives, their families, their jobs, their husbands, and even what they're taught at their churches or temples. Change of this type requires courage, much more than it takes to be apathetic about your life, and convince yourself you're content and this is the way your life "has to be". I hadn't read her prior book, but I am in the process of purchasing it now, and plan to keep Something More, close by for future reference. Thank you Sarah Ban Breathnach for your book, and promoting the most important love of all...SELF LOVE.
Rating: Summary: This book made my shortlist of all time life changing books. Review: I agree with most of the five-star reviews. There are less than five books I have read that changed my life. Each book was read when I was ready to see a new way of looking. Ms. Ban Breathnach confirms what I have experienced during my lifetime. We are here to learn not hide, not complain, nor blame others for the choices we make. The hard road is always narrow and with space enough for one set of footprints. Thank you, Ms. Ban Breathnach.
Rating: Summary: An interesting book Review: This book is an interesting read and utilizes the common psychological procedures in uncovering one layer after the other to look into one self--but in a very creative way. Another book that I found greatly helpful for finding my authentic self and which is practical and inspiring, and I must recommend highly, is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression"--also available at Amazon.
Rating: Summary: A waste of time, no real answers. Review: I was one click away from buying this book, but went to the library instead. Thank goodness! This book took pages and pages to say nothing. The title could have been "All you need is a man to make you happy, but not the one you've got, dump him." Had alot of crazy talk about reimbodiment that I found hard to take. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time on this book.
Rating: Summary: Useful wisdom Review: I agree with the earlier reviewer who praised inspiring books like "The Triumph and the Glory" but disagree over her opinion of Sarah Breathnach's wonderful books. They are inspiring as well, filled with valuable advice, offering help to many, many people who simply need a little counsel on getting the most out of themselves and life.
Rating: Summary: Hype Hype Hype Review: Excavate this. I get far more enjoyment, satisfaction, moral lessons, and inspiring examples from reading great novels like "The Triumph and the Glory", Stones From the River", or "Sophie's Choice" than I've ever gotten from one of these motivational books. Can't anyone think for themselves any more ? Can't we draw our own wisdom and insight from our own life experiences ? Do we really need gimmicky books that claim that every stage of life we go through conveniently starts with the letter 'S' ? ? ? I wish everyone would just start using their common sense instead of seeking every answer to every problem from the highest selling 20 or 30 self-help books. Gee whiz, people!
Rating: Summary: Uninspiring, banal breathnach. Review: Sarah Ban Breathnach steals. Doesn't anyone remember that it was Emerson, and the Transcendentalist crowd who first coined and developed the term, "Divine Discontent?" Throughout her book, she seems to offer ideas or terms of expressions as if they spun organically and originially from her own mind. Ms. Breathnach offers many New-Agey type ideas that are either silly, or else you're sure to have read them years ago in women's magazines. She really needs to sit down, reflect, and truly come from an authentic place from within her own soul. What she says and how she says it doesn't ring true.
Rating: Summary: This book has changed my life forever. Review: This book changed my life so much that I am starting a book study with several of my friends. We will be listening to the audiotape and then sharing our life experiences. It's message is so profound that it merits a study-workshop.
Rating: Summary: Yuck Review: This book was a complete disappointment to me. The most disappointing thing was that it somewhat undermines what I loved about Simple Abundance. The concept of Gratitude was a major theme in that SA and it has had a profound impact on my life. This book is basically telling you that gratitude is not enough. Simple Abundance is one of my favorite books ever, and Something More is one of my LEAST favorite books ever. I don't know if I have ever felt such a dichotomy between books from the same author.
Rating: Summary: What she left out. Review: I can say that after reading SA twice I was SADLY disapointed in this book. In fact I plan to burn it when I get the chance. If she has resently left her husband or vice versa then she needed time to heal not time to write a new book "TO FEED THE WOMEN OF AMERICA'S SOULS." There is a love and a deep spirtiual beauty to a loving marriage. I feel she is calling to women to look for this perfect man who does not exist. This mythical man who's soul purpose is too serve you. Sorry to disapoint Ms. Breathnach but this man does not exist. I feel that she is calling women to leave their husbands in droves. I would have put minus five stars if they would have let me. Ladies/Gentlemen if you want a man to love you more, learn to love yourself more/frist. What to find a man. Stop looking and let God(s) bring them too you.
