Rating: Summary: No Such Thing As a Bad Day Review: If the title of this work is not enough to draw you in, the inspiration found within the covers of this autobiography will capture you. From start to finish I was enthralled with Hamilton Jordan's life. He develops a picture from which you cannot turn away with descriptions of his family, perceptions and mistakes from his career, the resulting reflective thoughts when faced with death, and finally with his dynamic approach to health care. Hamilton Jordan shares his regrets, his perceptions and his experiences in a non-threatening unpretentious manner. You soon forget this man held one of the highest offices in the United States, next to the President. But the title shares the core of the message. I am a cancer survivor and this should be the handbook for Cancer Warriors. I have several friends who have gone through the process of being diagnosed with Cancer and battling this horrible disease. This is a book I have given to each of them. His story is one we can all relate to through our experiences or those of a family member while still being a life that many will never experience. He is a man to be admired and this is a book not to be missed.
Rating: Summary: Focuses the reader on life's meaningful issues Review: In many ways, Jordan's book reminds me of the Viktor Frankl classic Man's Search for Meaning. Only through his battle with three different cancers was Jordan able to more clearly focus on his relationship with his wife and children, racism, public service, and other life issues. The book is genuinely inspirational!
Rating: Summary: No Such Thing as a Bad Day Review: It seems Hamilton Jordan has accomplished so much at a young age, yet he has done so much more later in life giving back to society. This book demonstrates another example of giving back with such an insightful story of his struggle with cancer. This disease has touched everyone in some way and his story is truly an inspiration. I couldn't put the book down.
Rating: Summary: just ok, dissapointing after reading reviews Review: maybe i expected too much, but this book only has a good title.I expected a book more like "tuesdays with morrie". which was: you get inspired about life & realize there really is no such thing as a bad day through the story being told. in this book, hamilton sort of just tells you to believe "there is no such thing as a bad day" and then he explains logically why a good mental attitude is good for you. a better title would be: "how i learned that positive mental attitude is helpful in my battle against cancer" i hate to diss the book, it just was not a fun or exciting read for me.

Rating: Summary: A great book--a story of courage and hope Review: My son-in-law gave me a copy of this book and I could not put it down. Mr Jordon's message is one that we could all use and learn from. What a journey this man has had--from a brush with the civil rights movement as a child, service in Vietnam, White House chief-of staff, and later, three battles with cancer. I wish I could convey how much this book touched me. I would highly encourage anyone who is looking for an inspirational voice to read this book. It will make you laugh, cry, and teach you something about our country. Ulimately, it will give lessons about life and how precious it is. Thank you, Mr. Jordan.
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful book! Review: My Urologist suggested that I read "No Such Thing As A Bad Day" by Hamilton Jordan. I read it in one day. Once I began reading it I was unable to put it down until I finished. What a wonderful book! It is a must read for anyone who has cancer or has loved ones who have cancer. One is taken through the full gamut of emotions from realization you have a disease that could put you in the cemetery to a point where you realize you have a fair chance of being a long-term survivor. On more than one occasion, tears ran down my cheeks, reliving the same experiences and feelings that he was expressing.
Rating: Summary: Good book..kept me up till 3 am Review: Not many books kept me up past my bedtime but this ranks as one of them. Jordan is frank, lucid and at times funny but I would prefer if he elaborates on his tenure as chief of staff further. I'm sure the conversation he had with Carter in his old car campaining for this little known person then would interest a lot of people...well he left that part out. This book is about hope and doing something about it.
Rating: Summary: A moving book--part memoir, part cancer survival story Review: Part memoir, part cancer survival story, this moving book recounts the adventures and personal struggles of former White House chief of staff Hamilton Jordan. Jordan's life, like that of the fictional hero Forrest Gump, has echoed the collective national experience of his generation on many levels: from his youth in the Civil Rights-era South, to his tour as a civilian volunteer in Vietnam, to his tumultuous years in Washington, D.C., serving with idealism under Democratic president Jimmy Carter. And, in recent years, Jordan's life has been defined by another all-too-common event in our society: cancer. Not once, not twice, but three times since his years in the Carter administration, he has been diagnosed with this disease in various forms: non-Hodgkins lymphoma, melanoma, and prostate cancer. And each time, he strongly believes the keys to his survival have been a well-informed mind and a positive attitude. NO SUCH THING AS A BAD DAY weaves together Jordan's reflections on his remarkable life rubbing elbows with history and his inspirational story of beating cancer. He discusses his years with President Carter and offers memorable anecdotes about his encounters with Martin Luther King, Jr., President Johnson, McCarthy-era attorney Roy Cohn, the Shah of Iran, and a young upstart politician named Bill Clinton. He also offers practical advice about coping with cancer through a pro-active stance on research and treatment. A startling first-hand account of recent American history and an inspirational guide for millions of cancer sufferers, this is an unforgettable read.
Rating: Summary: Lessons Learned Review: Taking control of your own medical problems and not being satisfied with first diagniois was very critical to his survival. A lesson we should all learn from. Faith is good but actual medical expertise is more important. I was also enlightened by the tretment of Jimmy Carter by the Clintons. I recommend this book to all.
