Summary: What a riot!!
Review: One of the funniest books I have read in a long time, I especially loved the little league game. The characters are very real, the plot is fast paced, I fell in love with Sophie and Phin, and was sorry to finish the book. Warning: you won't be able to put it down! I'm now a huge fan of Jennifer Crusie. Do yourself a favor if you need a love story with great wit, passion and many great characters..... Pick this one!

Summary: Gives a new meaning to 'Contemporary Romance'
Review: This is without a doubt one of the funniest books I've ever read. It has a very girl-next-door kind of appeal, if that makes any sense. It sort of takes an average girl's mindset and tosses in a ton of stuff we want to talk about and experience and if we're really lucky, actually get to. It has, like a lot of Ms. Crusie's work, a powerful touch of realism. Unlike many contemporary romance, it does not cling to conventional plots and characters. The main female character is so completely original and unannoying it's a revelation. Many times a heroine can be irritating to us mortal readers who narrow our eyes over the ever so tedious perfection that romance authors seem to strain their characters through. Sophie, the heroine isn't really like this, there's no emphasis on her 'lily-white skin' or her innate angelic visage. Her family's pretty crooked and no one would ever accuse them of 'slumming'. Like the heroine, the hero is also utterly original. How many romances or fictions have you read where the hero is a mayor? He is in this one and if you don't think this is appealing, you haven't read Jennifer Crusie before. Not only is he a mayor''not that theirs anything wrong with that of course''but he's also a preppy. Disregard the tall, dark and dangerous here. The chemistry and the humor between these two utterly original characters are bewitching and intense.

The sex scenes themselves are unconventional, even for a contemporary romance. It's a cross somewhere between most Linda Howards and some Jayne Ann Krentz. The plot even has a little suspense in it and Ms. Crusie doesn't hesitate to somehow make the reader laugh and wonder at the mystery at the same exact time.

Summary: Crusie gets better and better!
Review: My first impression of Jennifer Crusie's writing was that it was fun fluff. Then I amended that opinion, and decided she was a master of high comedy. Now I don't know what to call Ms. Crusie's writing other than BRILLIANT.

Welcome to Temptation is a joy from beginning to end. More laughs, more intrigue and much, much more sex than her preceding works make this novel impossible to put down.

I would like to ask her, however, what magical canine touched her life. Every book I've read has had at least one life-altering dog, a mixed breed of confused ancestry whose odd looks and keen intelligence take the heroines into adventures they'd never have imagined. Given that I, too, have a dog of dubious parentage, this just brings her books closer to my heart! I would love for Jennifer Crusie to meet my Lulu!

Read and enjoy. Then make Amazon.com happy and order the rest of her books!!

Summary: Crusie is the best
Review: I was searching for something to read in a bookstore in France when I came across this book. It was so good that I started it that afternoon and read till 4 am to finish it. Crusie's writing keeps you interested and reading until you finish the last word. This book is the perfect summer read!! Her writing is sassy and sexy, a perfect mix for someone who likes a little romance in their books---but not so trashy that Fabio is on the cover. Crusie's heroine, Sophie, is everywoman, with issues, lust, and a mind of her own. All in all, a great read!!!

Summary: Fun & fast
Review: Just want to add my two cents about this book - I normally prefer British "chick lit" books (Helen Fielding, Christina Jones, Linda Taylor, Jill Mansell, Katie Fforde, etc. etc.) Crusie produces a wonderful tale that is close to this genre (at least the rural branch of the genre). The small town setting is perfect, the entire cast of characters is a hoot, and the storytelling is wonderful. The realistic humor flies fast and furious. Unlike other readers, I don't have any problem imagining Sophie and Phin together forever - hey, this is fiction. If you can buy into the idea of such a perfect town, with such a perfect mayor (young, great-looking, intelligent, funny, unbelievable in bed, good father AND UNATTACHED?????) then you can believe that he's found his match in the whimsical Sophie. I'm glad my Mom gave me this to read - I'm now backtracking to her other books and reading "Crazy for You" and loving every minute of it. Glad to see I've found an author I can buy in the US [....]

Summary: Fresh and Funny!
Review: I hadn't read a book by Jennifer Crusie before, but I'll definitely look for her others now! This was a fresh and funny romantic murder mystery, with quirky characters, rapid fire dialog, and a setting that's NOT some exotic locale, which makes it all the more refreshing. For fans of Janet Evanovich, here's a new author to enjoy!

Summary: Mystery, fun and love - nice interplay of separate stories
Review: This is the first Cruise book that I have read and I quite enjoyed it. It is definitely on the somewhat sensuous side of what I feel comfortable with however it does have strong romantic development (if that's the sort of books you are into) - and there is the added bonus of a bit of a mystery.

This is all about Sophie Dempsey who visits the tiny town of Temptation (Population some 2,158) to help her sister Amy film a documentary. They are immediately drawn into town politics when they have an accident on the outskirts of the town with upstanding pillar of the community (and all round whining stuffed-shirt) Stephen Garvey and his wife Virginia. An annoyance which is soon alleviated by meeting the town Mayor Phineas T. Tucker and the Police Chief Wes.

Sohpie Dempsey has a not too hidden past and has been battling her infamous Dempsey genes (The Dempsey's are known fraudsters) and trying to have a normal life with her sister Amy. Unfortunately the town of Temptation is not going let her off easy and she is immediately embroiled in its troubles, and some of her own. There is her growing attraction to Phin T., her loyalty to her family Amy, and her loveable rogue brother Davy, and having to cover up the true nature of what they are really filming. And then there is a murder to solve which everyone seems to want to confess to, or cover up but no real suspects.

Cruise certainly writes deftly mixing up the different stories and writing a number of really nice conclusions to them all - Rachel Garvey with her ambitions to direct in Hollywood, Sophie Dempsey wanting to settle down, Amy Dempsey wanting to make her documentaries and Davy wanting to continue is somewhat edgy life. They all progress quite naturally and conclude very sweetly and appropriately (I think)

I quite liked Cruise's light style - its easy to read and pleasant. I didn't find it particular laugh out loud but if another of her books came my way I wouldn't pass it up. She is certainly an author worth dipping in to try if you haven't read her before and you don't mind a bit of steamy sex - or if you like a lot of steamy sex then you'll probably like this a lot!

Summary: BEST LAZY SUMMER AFTERNOON READ!
Review: This book was terrific fun ... smart, sassy, sexy, and surprising! The characters are endearing and exasperating (I'll stop with all the alliteration now), and the book is surprisingly touching. I thoroughly enjoyed "Welcome to Temptation"; I had never read Jennifer Cruise before, and was just delighted to discover her. Must buy more of her books!

Summary: Disappointing
Review: This is the last time I am going to spend time and money on a book by Jennifer Crusie. The reason I have lasted so long is that I really enjoyed the books she wrote for Silhouette/Harlequin. However all three of her novels to date (crazy for you, tell me lies and this one) have proved to be totally non-gripping. I kept buying each new one in the hope that it would be better. Her characters are quirky, her situations are innovative, her plots are strange and wonderful - but her books are boring. This is partly because her characters are so very unlikeable, in spite of their many eccentricities. Her inevitable murder mystery builds up to a climax and then collapses like a pricked balloon. Its just difficult to get interested. I kept turning the page hoping something better would come up but it never did. So, Ms. Crusie, I'm sorry but I'm giving up on you. having said that, if you get the book for free, and have nothing else to read, its better than reading a dictionary.

Summary: Carl Hiaason meets Danielle Steele!
Review: I have a new favorite author! If you like off kilter, funny, clever mysteries this is perfect. The romance was believable and about as steamy as I've ever read, the mystery was clever, the characters were very involving. As soon as I finished this, I went out and bought everything I could by Jennifer Crusie. GREAT great beach reading (or staying up till 4:00 am reading!)
