Summary: Good Sex Boring Book
Review: Sadly this book was too long and extremely boring with a heroine who couldn't find her way out of a paper bag. A quarter of the way into the book i wanted to slap the lame heroine very, very hard; by half-way i gave up reading. Life is too short to waste any of it on this book. This is definitely a 90-page novella disguised as a real book. Oddly enough Crusie's characterizations were very well done. Too bad the plot wasn't.

Summary: 3 1/2 stars. But GO OSU!
Review: Welcome to Temptation...a not so welcomed dissapointment.
This is the story of one of the Dempseys, Sophie, the oldest. She has taken care of her 2 younger siblings, Amy and Davy, since she was 17. Her family has a long history with the law...on the wrong side of it, for that matter. Her father is currently serving time in jail, her sister had a juvie file thicker than the bible and Davy is coning whoever he can...but only as long as those he cons are coners as well. Follow me so far? Good.
To earn a living Sophie and Amy have a video company in which they film weddings mostly, but as luck may happen Clea, a one film actress...not counting the porn one, contacts Amy and tells her that she wants Sophie and Amy to shoot her coming back to Temptation, OH as part of an audition for a film company. Sophie and Amy agree and head to Temptation, where from the very begining problems arise.
Temptation is a small town, hence, gossip travels quicker than the former Condor.
Enters the picture Mayor Phinias Tucker, the very attractive town boy, only grown up. For Sophie he equals disgust because, without him knowing, Phin reminds Sophie of a very bitter moment when she was in high school and many other sour moments every time their parents moved from town to town. But the attraction between these two is undeniable, so why fight it? After all, is only a game.
Only it turns out not to be because soon these two start feeling a little too deep to make their liaison too casual.
To complicate matters Phin has a 9 year old daughter (who is a delight, a mother who thinks he's still 12 years old and a very jealous reporter who happens to be Clea's soon to be ex husband.
Zane, Clea's husband, is a lousy excuse of a human being, but he wants his wife back and resorts to all kinds of blackmail to push her back to him.
Suddenly a dead body is found and now everyone is a suspect. Especially the Dempseys.
Personally, I picked this book because I read in a review that the heroine was a plus size, the only evidence I found of that was that she was described as "round", "soft". The hero, Phin, was very annoying. If I want to read about men like him, I wouldn't be reading fiction and above all I wouldn't be reading romance. He was annoying. Obsessed with pool, which I'm sorry but that's not a sport, no matter what he thinks, he called her "dummy" every once in a while, just because he thought she didnt read (and she never confirmed or denied if she did or not), and she never told him to turn it down a notch or two because his ego was taking 3 out of 4 chairs in a table. He seems to be more interested in having hot sex with her than in getting to know her and I never saw a real base for their so called love.
Amy, Sophie's sister, is spoiled rotten and so selfish I was thinking maybe the devil was a bit more altruistic. She never once thought about Sophie and her life, well not until the very end, and she even got jealous of a 9 year old for the attention Sophie was paying to her and not to Amy.
Davy was about the most redeemable character. He was funny, warm and he played the role of big brother even though he is younger.
I'm not saying Sophie and Phin and their story are not likeable. I think it was very entertaining and a fast read all in all. But the points mentioned above made me roll my eyes various times and after I was done reading the book I didn't think it was memorable. The mystery of the death and other mysteries makes up for the weaker points in the novel.
And being an OSU alumni helped me find a point or two that were redeemable as well.

Summary: I adore this book!
Review: This is my favorite of the Jennifer Crusie books! I absolutely love this book! I can't even count how many times I have read this book. . and read it in just one sitting. It is very hard to put down. It's full of laughs, mystery, sexiness, hate, etc.

Throughout the whole book though, I was irritated at the sister, Amy. She was getting on my nerves! But I think any book that makes you feel like you are in the situation or make you feel for the main characters is always a great book!

I hope Jennifer Crusie continues to write fantastic books like this one! I recommend it to anyone. You won't be able to put it down!!!!!

Summary: I've read better
Review: This novel, is okay, if you're into middle-age people's romance. If you're a lover of hip fresh romance and girly books from authors like Candace Bushnell and Jane Green, you won't like Welcome to Temptation.

Summary: Crusie Welcomes you to Temptation
Review: *Falling for the little town on Temptation, Ohio's mayor, Phineas Tucker, was the last thing on Sophie Dempsey's mind. That was before the outlook of Sophie and her sister's movie that they were filming began to involve more trouble than they were prepared for. At that time in Sophie's life, she was nothing but vulnerable. Caught in a web full of gossiping town's people, blackmail, adultery, murder, and seduction, Sophie decides to be rebellious for the first time in her life, and does what she feels is right for her... not what other people do. I personally admire her for that, because I think that being self-confident is an important trait to have in life. For that, Sophie would have to be my favorite character in this particular novel. Jennifer Crusie knows just how to capture the reader's attention using romantic-comedy and an "edgy-style," that will surely make it hard for you to sit the book down. I have read a couple of Crusie's other novels, and I would have to say that Welcome to Temptation is by far, one of my favorites. All in all, I'd rate this book a 5, because it's hard to part from it once you start flippin' the pages!!*

Summary: hooked on crusie
Review: I first got hooked on Jennifer Crusie because my best friend was reading "Tell Me Lies" one of her other books... so she let me borrow "Welcome to Temptation" I am not really a big reader but for some reason i couldn't put the book down and i stayed up all night to finish the book. Out of all of her books that i have read this one has to be my all time favorite.

In all of Jennifer Crusie's books there is an element of hot romance, comedy, and drama combined in such a way to make her words jump off the page and play them selves out in your imagination.

Summary: Hard to believe "love story"
Review: Hard to believe how Phin and Sophie actually fell in love. There was nothing between these two but sex. So, pretty much I did not buy the romantic part but it had other stuff going on that made it kind of fun to read like Zane and Clea and other people. Not really very recommendable but that's just me.

Summary: It stuck with me.
Review: This is one romance that doesn't follow a formula. Sophie Dempsey was interesting. I loved that she was from a con family, but was the only one walking the straight and narrow.

And Phin Tucker--well, he really did stick with me. Something about him seemed to live independently, as if I might meet him on the street somewhere. He was real enough that I could point him out for you if I saw him, and his imperfections were done just right--to make you like him all the more.

The plot was also well done. It took a little bit of guessing to figure out who the bad guy was--and then again, there were multiple bad guys, multiple layers, and nothing was just cut and dried neatly out, like in real life.

The pool scene rocked.

You'll not only want to read this one--you'll want to own it so you can re-read it a few hundred times.

Summary: Come to Temptation and you'll never want to leave
Review: This is the first J Cruise book I read and it is by far my favorite (although I have enjoyed them all.) I hadn't read a juicy hot novel in quite a while and this kept me captivated in Temptation; didn't want the story to end....

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Wickedly Tempting
Review: Heroine:   lush, voluptuous

Temptation, Ohio, the tiny town that has it all: secrets, greed, blackmail, adultery, dirty politics, and a highly-phallic water tower. What better place for a filmmaker to shoot a documentary about a "porn star" returning to her roots?

Wedding videographer Sophie Dempsey, the only straight-laced member of a family of felons, is determined to make a decent life for herself-- even if the sheer boredom kills her! Had she known the trials and tribulations which awaited her in Temptation, she might have fled the scene as soon as she arrived. Having once been emotionally scarred by a preppy "town boy", Sophie wants nothing to do with Temptation's Ivy League-type mayor, who insists on playing handyman around the farmhouse where they are filming. And the added headache of dealing with the actors' egos and her baby sister's antics is making Sophie absolutely crazy!

Phineas T. Tucker, low-key politician who'd rather be playing pool, running his bookstore, and raising his daughter, is tired. Tired of living with his harridan of a mother. Tired of stepping into the breach between warring townsfolk. Tired of being tired. When Sophie Dempsey and her sister breeze into town to film an audition tape for Clea Whipple (a woman whose cleavage landed a much younger Phin in the emergency room for stitches in his chin), the mayor gets the feeling that the director is "devil's candy", bad trouble he should stay away from. But his best friend police chief Wes wants to put the moves on Amy Dempsey, Sophie's "ex-juvie" little sister, and the mayor finds himself tagging along on a double date just to keep big sister Sophie occupied and out of the way. What began as an altruistic gesture of friendship soon goes awry, and Phin finds he's drawn to this girl from the wrong side of the tracks-- and wants her bad.

Bad enough to shirk his mayoral duties during election time. Bad enough to defy his "first-lady-of-the-town" mother's wishes. Bad enough to cover for Sophie when a dead body turns up and her name is on the short list of suspects!

What worked for me:

As always Ms. Crusie can be counted on to supply the reader with lots of romances to root for, witty one-liners, sizzling sex scenes (though they may not be lurid enough for romance readers who want the play-by-play), and an unusual cast of characters. This time around there's the nutty council of a dysfunctional town, washed-up thespians, a depressed porn king, and a seriously-dead corpse who knows the meaning of the phrase "overkill'. And, as always, there's the requisite ugly dog.

Sophie had a strong sense of self and was, I thought, a very likeable gal. I loved the scene where she set Phin's frosty mother straight during their little chat together. And I adored how things turned out for her in the end!

Size-wise, Sophie sounded like she was at the voluptuous end of average.

What didn't work for me:

I read the sequel "Faking It" first, so my perception of "Welcome to Temptation" may be somewhat different than those of folks who read the two books in order.

There were a lot of movie and music references in "Welcome to Temptation", but not quite so many as in "Faking It" where I thought it went overboard.

It would have been nice if Sophie had broken things off with her boyfriend before getting involved with Phin. (Especially, I suppose, from the boyfriend's point-of-view.)

I had to suspend my disbelief somewhat when it came to the murder investigation. And while it could be said that the killer was brought to some level of justice, it irked me that the police never became aware of what had truly taken place.

As a side note: I can deal with a twenty year old girl getting involved with a rake in a Regency better than I can a twenty year old girl in a contemporary getting together with a porn king. Don't ask me why; I have no answer for this.

 Overall:

Wickedly tempting with its moments of comic brilliance, sizzling sex, and (though it starts late in the game) an interesting mystery, "Welcome to Temptation" makes a great bubble bath book. Be sure to snag a copy of "Faking It" as well!

Warning: There are some spicy love scenes and some coarse language in this story.

If you liked "Welcome to Temptation", you might also enjoy "Faking It", "Fast Women", The "Stephanie Plum" mystery series, "Plum Girl", "Princess Charming", "Infernal Affairs", "It Had to be You", "This Heart of Mine", or "Dear Cupid".
