Summary: All Things Just Keep Getting Better
Review: The Fab Five move from television to the publishing world with this practical guide.

Too often today, there is a wealth of things that we are expected to just know in grooming, dressing, food, wine and other areas. Yet this information is not passed along to us and so we flail. Enter this book. Here is a guide to many of these things we don't know. It puts some tszuj into our lives.

There's much here that is informative, but what makes it a great book is that the information is presented with and an edge that the Queer Eye Guys bring to what they do. Nothing ...harsh is in here, just a collection of "Do's" to make your life better. There is a quick introduction to wines without all the jargon. Things that we may not think of, such as 'Foods to avoid on a date.' Each section gives lavishly illustrated examples, and cuts to the heart of the matter with Q & A boxes in the lower corners of many pages.

Each of the 5 bring their knowledge area to a section: Food, Grooming, Decoration, Fashion and the broad "culture" (all the things to do on the date to impress your companion). The best part is that for the reader, one page may elicit "Well that's just not me," but turn the page and suddenly you see something relevant. You will be surprised how much you can pick up from this book. You can think of it as one of those "Underground Travel Guides" that are published; only this is to urban (and suburban) life tricks.

While the title is Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, anyone can benefit from something in here - gay, straight, guy or gal. It is fun reading with a purpose. How often do you find a book that is enjoyable in itself, yet teaches you something? A book for everyone's shelf in this new century.

Summary: Fabooooooo!
Review: The show is fabooo and so is the book. These guys are the hottest thing since sliced bread. They would be successful enough just being clever and witty, but they actually also have great ideas and tips (for gays AND straights!).

Also recommend: THE SOUTH BEACH DIET, McCrae's BARK OF THE DOGWOOD, and 1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE.

Summary: Good advice if you're already fit and trim
Review: These guys are so self-impressed, with such little justification, that it would be comical if it were not so pathetic. Someone should turn an eye on their writing style, since the lack of style there is all too revealing of their inability to demonstrate any style in any other realm.

Summary: I did learn a valuable lesson...
Review: This book covers a lot of what the show says and has to offer. You might as well just watch the show, and have a pencil and some paper ready. It does however, cover a lot of topics such as grooming, decorating, fashion and culture. I bought the book for my straight brother, to try to get him to change some of his not-so-desired habits, and in the end, I realized I might as well just have told him myself. I have gotten out of this a lesson: (Straight) Men will be men, and the "Fab Five" can tell you the exact same things as five women, so if they won't listen to a woman, they are even more unlikely to listen to a gay man who sounds like a woman. Not worth my money.

Summary: Please...
Review: This book is embarrassing and insulting. If you have no sense of personal style or are clueless about culture... then maybe there's a valuable tip or two buried inside. But most of us are getting on just fine. And these "opinions" on what constitutes fabulous fashion and taste are condescending and overly simplistic.

Here's a tip: Be your own person. Create your own style.

But, if you're a sheep and need to follow the masses to feel validated.... then this book's for you.

Summary: Improve Everything About Yourself
Review: This book is fantastic. I really loved the show because it inspired myself to become cleaner, be more organized and to feel good. Of course my girlfriend played a big part in that but anyways..= )
I really wanted this book for the grooming techniques and maybe learn a thing or 2 about cooking. The grooming section definitly came in handy. I always knew hairspray was something that I should never use but I always did. After reading this book I tossed my hair products and went and got all new ones.
Now of course this isnt the best stop for cooking but it does help me out if I plan to cook dinner for anyone and host a gathering.
I think the only thing that dissapoints me is the lack of particular brands of products... I would have liked to know some suggestive brands to shop for in hair products and facial cleansers but I think if you stick to what is shown in the book you'll know it when you see it...cheap brands are easy to spot so .. you stay away from them.
If you dig the show.. pick this book up. And if you just want to improve yourself and feel good .. pick it up then for that reason. No one has to know where your getting all your wonderfull products and style from....but you'll be happy you made a bit of a change in your lifestyle if it seems a bit... cluttered

Summary: Funny, NOT boring and very informative!
Review: this books is very well written in a manner that does not bore you at all while providing great information about how you dine, look and take care of yourself.

Summary: Good advice if you're already fit and trim
Review: This is a good basic book on how to dress better, improve your manners, and cook some simple and classy meals. However, before reading this book, I'd recommend most men (and women) read "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips and lose some weight!

All the great looking clothes and great hair care products aren't going to make an ounce of difference if you're fat, flabby, and out of shape. Once you've gotten yourself in shape and have lost the weight you need to lose (and if you're an American man, you probably need to lose a fair amount of weight), come back and read this book for how to pick out some basic, stylish clothes.

The section on grooming was decent, but would have benefitted more men if it had advice on how to choose a good hairstyle given your type of hair and shape of face.

The section on culture and basic manners was surprisingly good, given that they downplay this on the TV show. Most men (and probably women) could do with a brush-up on basic manners and politeness.

Finally, the section on decorating was pretty blah. I think the makeovers on the TV show are generally pretty good, but the suburban nightmare house that he "redecorated" in the book looked just as ghastly after as before. There are a zillion books on decorating (Katrin Cargill's are especially good) and I'd look elsewhere for advice on this topic.
