Review: This book brings back fond memories of my 8 years in the Army as an 11-Bush and later, 11-Hotel. I think Cole got most of his material from real-life experiences in various training exercises during his time in the Army. It has a very authentic feel to it. Cole does a good job of conveying the tiredness, the dirtyness, and the highs of life in the field. My only complaint is the "set-piece" engagement feel of the book, in which fighting the Soviets often goes more like a training exercise than a real chaotic war, but that's a minor quibble, as he still does a fine job of recreating the kind of combat ground-pounders would face in a high-intensity armored war.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of the best war books ever Review: This book is great. The only flaw is that it is too short, as i could keep reading it for a couple hours longer... It is not a "Classic" novel but the characters are interesting and funny, and the history is fast and "realistic". If you like world war 3 stories and ground war in general you will like this book...

I was spellbound by it's depth and intensity, with beleivable characters and plot, and a feeling of apprehension as to what was going to go wrong next, which is just about as realistic as it gets. Mr Coyle has written a great one here, too bad some of the following books he wrote did not measure up. If I wanted a soap opera I would tune in "Days of our Lives" He should stick to the hard hitting action packed stuff he seems so good at here. I own most of his soft covers, but stopped buying them because they were in my opinion going downhill fast. I actually started using my library card instead! To me, this is heracy! I believe in supporting with my dollars a good author who keeps me entertained! however, I am waiting for a story that will bring him back into the buy not borrow fold for me. Sorry Harold.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book speaks TANK!!!! Review: This is definetly one of the best armor books I have read. It has action o'plenty with the M-1 Abrams having some fun with T-62's and various other tanks and APC's. If I have one complaint it's that you don't see enough of the "big picture", i.e., the high-level political occurences that cause World War III. But, that also serves to convey the sense of isolation felt by the characters throughout this fast-paced novel. A must-read for all military-techno-junkies
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Best World War III Novel Ever Written Review: This is the best World War III novel ever written. Harold Coyle's first novel,Team Yankee, was written in 1987. Four years before the break up of the Soviet Union. A tank commander in Germany has to fight for his life, and that of his crew when the Soviet Union and its allies invade West Germany. (Officially, the Federal Republic of Germany,) and he must defend West Germany at all costs, with the help of the West German armed forces, the Bundeswehr, and other NATO allies. The book begins with actual headlines of the period. The headlines being about the Iran-Iraq War, which was still going on at the time, and others that weren't actual but made up. There were also detailed maps. Harold Coyle's books always have lots of maps.

I couldn't get over the realism, and feeling of being there with the characters that I got from reading "Team Yankee".
The witings only got better and more exciting with each new title.
I'm hooked on anything that is written by this author.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A good read, but... Review: This was the second Coyle book I read (the first being "God's Children") and once again I was compelled by his gripping battle scenes and poignant view of today's combat environment. The story flows well and was generally enjoyable and engaging. However, by the end of the book I became disappointed because of the constant, repeated stupidity of the opposing forces. I felt cheated because it never seemed that the U.S. forces won due to good strategy & tactics as much as because the enemy used tactics a learned high school student would shun. Don't get me wrong, the book is a good read. I only wish Coyle would create an antagonist with some brains to serve as a challenging foil for our heroes.
