Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Hesh Review: A classic early 'techno-thriller' that spawned a fondly-remembered computer game, 'Team Yankee' is the tale of an M1 tank platoon fighting its way through eastern Europe in the opening fortnight of WWIII. That's it - they drive and fight and drive and fight, for fourteen days. The approach is both honest (we learn nothing about the outside world) and slightly unsatisfying - the book lacks the political depth of a Tom Clancy novel, and the resolutely realistic tone lacks the pulpy thrills of Larry Bond. In fact it's not so much a 'thriller', as a 'mockumentary'. Two further points that will strike you as you read the book:- 1. The Russians. They're hopeless. 2. Birmingham. Ulp.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: What if the Soviet Union had attacked West Germany Review: A history teacher of mine in high school said he didn't want to get involved with "iffy history." This book is just that. It deals with a Soviet invasion of West Germany. The Soviet Union invaded West Germany in this book after peace talks broke down. The United States and its NATO allies successfully repulse the Soviet invasion and drive them back to East Germany. The war ends with the Americans crossing the IGB (Inter-German Border), to drive the Red Army out of West Germany. It's a fast-paced, hard-hitting book that was written at a time when the Soviet Union was still intact. For its time, 1988, it was thoroughly accurate. Today it reads like something from fifty years ago.

It is too bad that the novels that followed took on such a mellow dramatic tone.
Reminds me of Red Storm Rising in that way

Although, as one reader said "anachronistic", the scenes, descriptions and maps were easily followed. While remembering this important fact we ought to ignore some of the aspects of the "big picture" (missile strikes on Birmingham, England and Minsk, USSR which are straight out of another WWIII novel. The other event which deserves mention (I hope I don't give it away too much!) were the T-72 kills, at the time, there was doubt about the lethality of the 105 mm round on modern Soviet tanks, but the BAOR guns during the Gulf War at least blew that theory out. At any rate, if realism is what you are looking for, you got it.

Coyle knows what he is talking about. The realism and technical knowledge he conveys is so much more than that of the average writer. This book brings back many memories for me, there is just nothing better than the M1A2's turret during live fire, the cordite smell, M240 machine gun fire, the AFCAP kicking back out of the breech... I love it and I loved the book, all perspectives and incredible insight. One question, did it ever come out in a hardback? Let me know. - A32 - 3rd Platoon 2nd Battallion 67th Armor, Friedberg Germany, 1st Armored Divisio
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Undoubtedly the best book yet on what war is like!! Review: As a 26 year veteran of Army Armored Cavalry operations from Viet Nam to the same area in Germany, I could not put this book down when I purchased it. I must have read this book at least 10 times over the years, and it reads just as well the tenth time as the first. If you would like to read a book about what war is really like I definitely recommend this one. It is Coyles best book, and he should consider writing another along the same lines.

Review: As a tank platoon commander I can fully understand the immense difficulty and the challenges faced by the commanding officer. This book has gripping encounters and very real consequences.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A true Leader's Guide Review: Besides having some very descriptive and thought exploring passages of the main character throughout the turmoils of a fictional World War III, one can get a taste of what leaders really go through in a low level command situation. I am an ROTC cadet writing a 3 page report on this book. I also am an avid Command and Conquer Red Alert player and can empathize with the character's high on victory feelings. This book is a great pastime for aspiring leaders. On the short end, I was expecting more smart bombs, cruise missiles and Thunderbolt raids to help out the protagonist but I assume the lack of such was intentional to add more hardship and conflict to the plot.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent, timeless book! Review: Despite the Einheit, this book is a must read. Lends fantastic realism and perspective to recent plotical history and the profession of arms. Great reference when traveling Germany and former Eastern European satellites.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Fantastically awsome Review: Harold Coyle does an excellent job of telling the way it is. Mordern Armor warfare is a tough and demanding way of life. It also tells the people who might oppose us to think real hard before they act.
