Rating: Summary: The usual bunch of unlikable characters Review: This book features the usual bunch of unlikable characters from E. Lynn Harris' previous best seller, "Not a day goes by." Although you may think that's not possible, he has also introduced a few more characters who are even more unlikable. It was easy to read, but contained no surprises. Take it to the beach, or on your next vacation. It might help to keep you from making some choices you could regret!
Rating: Summary: Loved it and still want more! Review: I am already a great fan of E. Lynn Harris's work since INVISIBLE LIFE and as usual, just like his previous novels, I found ANY WAY THE WIND BLOWS a lot of fun to read. When I read that this book was coming out, I couldn't wait to read about the latest antics of playboy, John Basil Henderson and Hollywood diva, Yancey Braxton. His characters are unforgettable and story lines are interesting and fun that I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I also liked how the lives of all three of the major characters were intertwined and you see the return of some characters from previous novels. I think E. Lynn Harris's books have an addictive quality that once I start, I can't put it down and this was no exception. He knows how to keep his readers turning the pages. His writing is smooth, well-written, funny and engaging. Overall, I found it a completely enjoyable read and can't wait for his next one.
Rating: Summary: Awesome, Dramatic, Touching, Page-Turner!!! Review: I just completed E.Lynn Harris' newest novel, Any Way the Wind Blows and I must say it was all that. I couldn't put the book down. Basil never disappoints E.Lynn fans and that Yancey Braxton is too much but, the ultimate players in this book were Ava Parker Middlebrooks and Bart Paul Dunbar. Adding Bart to the mix made Basil look like a drop in the bucket. I couldn't figure this guy out for nothing and the things he says and does are enough to scare anyone near or far. Ava is the same she-devil, we've come to know, love and hate all in one breath. E.Lynn is a master in his own right. No one can do it better. I was left wanting more and more. The book was magical and in my book is another bestseller. Any Way The Wind Blows will have you on edge and have you believing that the wind can and will blow any way.
Rating: Summary: Not the best, not the worst Review: I think fans of E. Lynn Harris will come away from reading this book with mixed emotions. Initially, catching up with Yancey and Basil is like getting the 411 on former classmates or kids who grew up down the block from you - like 'em or not, you want to know what's going on in their lives. However, soon some of the plot contrivances and goings-on begin to feel like daytime soap retreads. Yancey and Basil, two characters who were formerly evil and underhanded, separately take turns toward softer, gentler personalities, just in time to make room to for new baddie Bart and the returning diva of evil, Ava.I did find myself turning pages quickly, hoping for Ava's comeuppance and wondering if Basil's secret would be revealed, but ultimately this tale was anti-climactic. As always, E. Lynn moves the story briskly with his snappy dialogue (especially between the "kids"), but "Any Way..." is kind of like fat-free ice cream: somewhat of a treat, but definitely not the real thing.
Rating: Summary: Any Way The Wind Blows......... Review: E. Lynn has done it again! I just finished this latest work, Any Way The Wind Blows, and really enjoyed the reading experience. I feel that Mr. Harris has given his seedy characters closure in a way that will allow him to either start fresh (in a future novel) leaving a lot of their old luggage behind or let these charters die a nature death and bring in a new year. Every time I read one of Mr. Harris's books I learn something about a life (homosexual) style that has always perplexed me. The education has been invaluable and has helped me to see that people are people. Some good and some bad, a person's sexual preference should not cause them to be labeled as such. A person's actions are all that counts. Mr. Harris's writing has enlightened myself and some of my friends to be less judgmental of others with different preferences. I can't wait to see what Mr. Harris has in store for us next year''''''''..
Rating: Summary: This One Was Too Weak To Call Good! Review: I am a huge fan of E. Lynn Harris, but I'm sorry, this book was way too weak to call it good. E. Lynn wrote this one on the fly, and failed to spend time fully developing his latest editions to the entourage. It felt as if he added a love interest for Yancey towards the end of the novel as an accidental afterthought. Basil is still as lost as a goose in a snowstorm. This story was so weak, that I'm glad that I borrowed a copy. It really wasn't worth spending money on! If E. Lynn doesn't get any better, he's off my list! The genius of his first two novels is fading fast!
Rating: Summary: too much name dropping Review: I am one of those ELH fans, that was there from the very beginning. After reading "invisible life" I was hooked. But now I will not waste my hard earn dollars on anymore of his books. I know ELH fans are wondering what happened to the characters that we've come to love (i.e Raymond, Jared). It's a good think i borrowed this book. The name dropping in this book, got on my nerves, monica this, brandy that, Dammit this is FICTION. I can read ebony or jet and get the same info. I didn't feel a thing for any of the characters in the book, mama-drama Ava, oh please! what played out, over the top soap opera, did he find her from. This book was silly to say the least. It lacked his usual wit and depth. I enjoy reading books by AA authors but the whole gay/bisexual thing is played out. Do not insult our intelligence by thinking todays readers will buy just anything. We need substance!
Rating: Summary: Quick, funny, & light reading Review: I truly enjoyed this novel's lighthearted story, much, much more than Not a Day Goes By. Basil was his usual self and the other characters were just as interesting. This novel is a page turner full of Harris' well known scandelous events. However, if you want something deep, enriching, and/or life changing this is not the book for you. Yet if you want some non thought provoking entertainment that will leave you with a smile, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: What can I say, E. Lynn has once again created a great book. I love that Yancy now has a singing career. Of course Basil is back up to his old tricks again. I also like the addition of the new character Bart. Bart is even worse than Basil and I didn't know that was even possible! Can't wait for the next book!
Rating: Summary: Time for something new!! Review: I have read all of ELynn's novels and I feel it is time for him to give us something of substance. I enjoyed all of the first 3 novels. The last three left something to be desired. The concept of the bisexual/gay world has been interesting but let's get down to another topic, or is that all you know what to write about. I must admit that I am tired of drama novels where the author tries to wrap up everthing nice and neat in the last say 20 pages. Give us a little more credit in what we like to read. Mr. Harris it is time for a novel with some substance. You tried to give us a piece of that when discussing everyone's childhood but don't throw us a bone and then take it back and say that's all you need. I expect more from our black authors so please take this criticism with love. It is time to give us something written with less drama and more substance of life. Not everyone is involved in abusive relationships gay/bisexual/heterosexual. Enligthment is one thing but must we drown in the subject. Time for something new!!!!
