Rating: Summary: I love the Sherbrookes! Review: It was great to finally read Tysen's story and to read more about the great Sherbrooke family. Tysen, despite his sexy Sherbrooke looks, is a vicar. His wife has passed away and he is raising three children. He is content with his life when he learns that he has inherited a Scottish castle and the title of Baron Barthwick. Being the responsible man that he is, he departs for Scotland not knowing that he's about to completely change his life. I thought this book was great to read. I loved seeing Tysen finally getting in touch with his Sherbrooke blood and learning to enjoy life. His daughter Meggie is magnificant. What a great addition to the story. I'd love to read a story about Meggie and the rest of the Sherbrooke children. I really enjoyed reading more about the other Sherbrooke's, Douglas and Alex, Ryder and Sophie, and Sinjun and Colin. I love the way this family gets together to solve a problem. I'd recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Not at all what I expected Review: Ms. Coulter is a very sought after author at my store. The customers who have read her have all talked endlessly of how much they enjoy her books. Until I read "The Scottish Birde", I had not read her before. Liking the Historical type book centered around Scotland, I decided it was about time I did read one. Having been told there was a humorous side to her writing I had expected more than was achived here. I found most of the charaters flat and conversation dry. The true major person in the story is Meggie. She was the most enjoyable one of all. I will read another of Ms. Coulter's book as I never make a decision based only on one book. I can only hope I find the next one filled with the wonders my customers have told me about.
Rating: Summary: Not up to Coulter Standard Review: OK. So you always here that sequels are never quite as good as the originals, but Coulter has proved that theory wrong before... what happened? As the fourth book in the Bride Trilogy, I was looking forward to the usual clever dialog and catchy story line Coulter provides in most of her books. I waited and waited but it never got going. Tysen and Mary Rose are nice people but there is no story in that! Neither one is very witty, in fact, their personalities are really weak. The best parts of the book involved Tysen's three outrageous children. Most of Coulter's books I read at one time, I physically cannot put her books down once I get started. This one took me three days to read. I don't regret reading it, it was great to hear from Douglas, Alex, Ryder, Sophie, Colin, and Sinjun. I hope that readers who have never picked up a Coulter book will not choose this as their first. For those who have read her books before you are probably like me in that you can't help but read her newest release.
Rating: Summary: not worth your time!!! Review: ok...I had the occasion to listen to this novel on tape on a road trip cross-country, and I must admit this novel is the worst romance novel I have ever had the displeasure of hearing/reading. I am here to warn you fair and square that this novel is not worth either your time or money, and should be avoided at all costs... First of all...the main characters are completely unbelievable (to be expected as is romance novel) but one still expects a hint or reality... Tysen, a vicar, acts nothing like a vicar...he spends several chapters (dull chapters) claiming he never used to have a temper or get angry/violent, and yet he lets his temper flare up in every conceivable situation. His daughter Meggie, has him wrapped around her little finger, and is never once punnished for everything she does wrong (which might have been okay, but she gets on your nerves after a while, and you wonder why tysen doesnt do anything about it!)... But the main problem I had with the book, is that after about 2/3 of the book is over, Couter should have written The end and moved on to better things...the entire last 1/3 of the book is Tysen and his new Scottish Bride wandering the countryside visiting with relatives or townspeople, and beyond completely boring. NOTHING happens in those last few tapes, so if you are set on buying the novel, trust me, stop reading after they get married, or you will suffer several more hours of boredom when you could be doing something much more amusing, or at least not fall asleep at the wheel!!! If you want to read a GOOD romance writer, i suggest Karen Marie Moning, who unlike Coulter, manages to keep the reader entertained throughout the novel with the plight of the main characters, actually has a plot, and leaves the reader satisfied with the quality of her writing at the conclusion of the novel!
Rating: Summary: MOLASSES IN WINTER Review: SIMPLY PUT, WORDS FAIL ME AS I STRIVE TO PURVEY THE SENSE OF FLOW I GET FROM THIS BOOK; AKIND TO MOLASSES IN THE WINTER.A BIT MORE HEAT TO THE MIX WOULD HAVE WET MY PALATE FOR THIS MUDANE LITERARY EXPERIENC.
Rating: Summary: Scotish Bride Review: Terrible! must have been written with teenage readers in mind.
Rating: Summary: THE SCOTTISH BRIDE Review: THE SCOTTISH BRIDE, a good book, starts off with noticable verbiage, so much that it is distracting. Then, as the story develops, the writing style modifies and the novel becomes believable and intense. Tysen Sherbrook, Englishman, widower, and "man-of-God" inherits a Sottish title and castle. He, along with his precocious daughter, go to Scotland to investigate his new holdings. There the Sherbrookes meet the beautiful Mary Rose Fordyce and learn of her travail, i.e., her birth circumstance, her predator, and her inheritance. From this point on, there is much romance and adventure. THE SCOTTISH BRIDE delves into the foolishness of prejudice and the immense pain it causes. It also looks at the healing forces of family and love.
Rating: Summary: Terrible, just terrible Review: This and Mad Jack were stunning dissappointments. Where are the fiery heroines, the ones with true pluck and spirit? Why do all of Coulter's females become bedridden at some point? What happened to the mystery? There was nothing fresh about this novel. The relationship is missing the brilliant spark that is so enchanting in many of her previous works--it seems lately Coulter is marrying off her couples earlier and earlier. This story has been done to death by Coulter. Try the "Song" series or the early Sherbrooke brides.

Rating: Summary: MOLASSES IN WINTER Review: This is by far my favorite Bride book. I loved how Tysen and Mary Rose came together. They came together through love and respect. Tysen goes from stern to relaxed to stern then to relaxed again. It made his character believable especially all the pressures he was under. Mary Rose was so nice to read about, she wasn't a scared out of her mind person. She knew what had to be done and got it done. They came to love each other and when they married Tysen didn't have to resort to rape to have her. Bravo!!! I respect and love him for that and his moral/ethics of how to treat a person. Meggie is absolutely a kind and devout child. She wasn't smart-alecky or annoying. She truly cared for her father didn't want him hurt. Her brothers Max and Leo were awesome too. They instantly took to their new mother with little hesitation. I don't care what anyone else has said of this book, I really enjoyed it because it was a true romance. There was no show of domination from Tysen and Mary Rose was without fear of him because of it. Truly to me a great read.
