Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: An All Too Familiar Spirit Review: James Van Praagh does have a connection to the spirit world, but it is not as he would paint it. This man has been deceived by a Familiar Spirit (i.e Spirit of Divination) which masquerades and recreates itself as spirits of the deceased.Several of the individuals in Mr. Van Praagh's book as well as reviewers comment on being helped and receiving information from either James Van Praagh (personally and/or through the book) or mediums like him. No doubt this information is "astounding" and, in some cases, quite accurate and could not be known by any other means except supernatural. Familiar spirits know about our past and present but they ARE NOT the spirits of your deceased loved ones. Please do not allow Mr. Van Praagh to deceive you when he himself is deceived and BEING USED by this particular spirit. Mr. Van Praagh's "supernatural" gift is nothing new and his book is merely a "fresh" spin on what has been around for centuries. The Old Testament speaks of King Saul contacting a medium at the town of En Dor in First Samuel 28:7-8. Read through the end of the chapter and finish Chapter 31 as well to see what eventually happened. God doesn't want any of us to be deceived by the enemy. God wants to speak to each of us directly and not through a medium who says that he can speak to and for the dead when all he is really speaking to is a Familiar Spirit who knows ABOUT details of deceased individuals while they were still living. Please understand: Even when a medium "knows" information it is not coming from your deceased relative but a spirit who wants to give you a false and deadly hope. After reading this, some may wonder how I know what I know. At one point in my life, I had the same ability that Mr. Van Praagh speaks of. I now have only one true spirit: The HOLY SPIRIT through the BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST. I am an individual with a graduate degree and professional standing, so being deceived has nothing to do with education or stature. It is a heart issue that only Jesus Christ can heal and complete. My prayers are with all of you who are spiritually searching. Mr. Van Praagh's book is not the route to take.

Review: It grieves me to see how many lost souls are out there (this demonically inspired book has received nearly 100 five star reviews here and is a best seller.) Talking with the dead and contacting spirit guides is the last thing someone vulnerable and in pain should be doing. Find comfort through the Bible not a medium masquerading as one who cares
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Very sketchy account of the after life Review: I read the book with sceptiscm, and still do not believe that we repeatedly revisit the earth or how we can recognize our lost ones in spirit form, and found the whole thing pointless and with no direction. Why are we here?? why can't we get the message!!!!

Review: The first time we (my two daughters and myself) read this book, we were driving around Las Vegas, feeding homeless cats. I would drive, my daughters would take turns reading it. We just couldn't put the book down. I bought the book because I lost a very special pet. The book helped me deal with his death. The book is written wonderfully. It made my pain lessen. I just picked up the book again and re-read it after I had to see the unfortunate death of one of my cats, when her cat condo fell on her and crushed her head. It was so tramatic, I searched for the book (we had moved since the last time I read it) I sat up most of the night reading the book again. I was then able to accept my cats death and began trying to "contact" my spirit guides. This book has made me even more interested in the afterlife and spiritual life. Thank you for writing it. Write more.. PLEASE
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: It's even more amazing in person... Review: I attended a seminar that James did last year, and went in pretty skeptical (but open-minded). I came away certain that what I had witnessed was real. The information that he gave to people who had lost loved ones was very specific, and had an incredible effect on the survivors. James seems to have many critics eager to debunk what he does, but if he plants people in his many audiences to stage the contacts, he would have no time to do anything other than prepare for his many "acts." And the information he receives is, contrary to many journalistic accounts, detailed and specific. After the seminar I immediately read this book. While at times the book seemed like it had been written a little too quickly and could have benefitted from further editing, it gives a good idea of James' abilities and the kind of information he receives. I recommend it highly. And I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of his second book, which I just ordered. By the way, don't be scared by the pronouncements of those who say that the Bible (or any other sacred text) is the only source of truth about what happens after death. The messages that come through James from the othe side are always about love and forgiveness, the true essence of Jesus' teachings.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Skip this and Read "Eagle and Rose" by Altea instead. Review: "The Eagle and the Rose" is the best of this genre of true stories on paranormal experiences. Van Praagh's novel is poorly written and skimpy on details. Read Altea's book instead and you'll be well rewarded.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Talking to heaven Review: A truely fascinating book about life after death. Just like some people out there i have lost a good friend and up to the point before this particular book fell into my hands i was completely lost and devastated because i thought it was really unfair that a person could leave life in the blink of an eye without the proper goodbyes. After reading the book my life has changed and I am looking forward to a "reading" that would prove to me that my beloved ones are still out there and that life after death is a fact of life it self. Right now i am ready to forget about my belief that states "Life is just a dream on the way to death" and move on thanks to this truely great book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Can you really talk to heaven? Review: According to this book, YES you can talk to Heaven. Just not in the way most people think. I have no doubt there is a life after death, and i'd like to believe you can receive messages. There were alot of "True stories" in this book,My favorite 1 was about the dog. I find it fascinating that he can get messages from animals. That i would like to try myself...
