Summary: The Hostile Hostipal is Awsome!
Review: Wow! What a great and exciting book. This book is about three children whose parents died in a fire. But there parents left them a fortune of money. But their enemy Count Olaf tries to steals their fortune. The three childrens names are, Violet who is the oldest. Klaus who is the middle child, and Sunny who is still a baby. They all have there own abilities to keep them alive and well. Violet is very good at enventing things. Klaus is good at studying and reading books. Last but not least Sunny, who is teething so she can bite her way through things. It is a very exiting book and I defenitly think that you should read it!

Summary: Kids AND adults will love this one
Review: I picked this book up at a book fair for my kids' preschool. I'd heard LOTS about Lemony Snicket, but had never read one of the books. Boy, am I glad I did. They're a hoot. Kids will love the creative ways the Baudelaire children escape never-ending peril, and adults will get a kick out of the many literary references worked into the story. This book had references to Woolf, Salinger, the Jonah story from the Bible and much more. Just check the names of the patients in the hospital.

If your child is 8-12 years old, get these books. Even better, read them aloud together. These books beg to be read out loud.

Summary: A good book!
Review: I think it is a great book if you like storys that go on & on & on with bad luck. 1,2,3,4,5,6,and 7, I think were beter books then this one. I think you should go in book order so you understand the story. I would say overall Lemony Snicket knows how to really write a story. I cant wait to get the ninth book!

Summary: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Review: This is a great series of books. I find them all hilarious and interesting.
The Baduelaires' lives are turned upside down after their house burns down, killing both of their parents. They then go to live with Count Olaf, who is a mean and horrible person, if you can call him one. Eventually they live with 7 different people or groups, not counting the 9th book (The Carnivorous Carnival, which comes out Oct. 29th, 2002). I have read all of the 8 books and I absolutely love them. Anyone from ages 10-13 will like them, even though my Mom has read them and loves them, as well as many other people I know. --Matthew McCulloch

Summary: The Vile Village
Review: The children have avoided Count Olaf's plans. Now they are sent to a village by Mr Poe. The orphans strive to find their friends, the Quagmires. They also need to solve the mystery of V.F.D. Their new guardian hates the village because their are more than 500 rules in the place. Will they make it in time to save thte Quagmires? Will they avoid Count Olaf? This book is sad but wonderful.

Summary: Hostile Indeed
Review: The "Series of Unfortunate Events" grows darker with each installment. No longer do the three Baudelaire orphans depend on Mr. Poe, the confused banker, to find them a home. They now rely completely on themselves.

The Hostile Hospital follows the same outline as the previous entries in the series. A far-fetched and unbelievable plot is leavened by a huge helping of dark, outlandish humor. Once again Snicket (Daniel Handler) provides a few treats for adult readers as well, including more than his usual complement of literary references.

In this episode the Baudelaires, running from both Count Olaf and the law, volunteer at Heimlich Hospital, to continue their search for the meaning of V.F.D. Needless to say, Count Olaf appears, ready to stop them in their tracks. The rest of the tale involves falling fire cabinets, head amputation, and fires.

The entire series is really just one big joke, and each episode provides wonderful, bit-size entertainment. However, if these installments were 50 pages longer, the joke might wear thin.

Summary: This is my 2nd favorite Snicket Book full of woe and misery
Review: I thought that Snicket had outdone himself with the Austre Academy but the Hostile Hospital just makes me cringe with glee and delight - I think Snicket is great - I see children and adults actually talking about books together again. As the orphans get closer to book 13 we actually have more oddball pieces to the puzzle and our questions are overflowing - are both their parents dead ? Did Olaf have a hand it in what is VFD and what kind of filing system does this hospital have !!?? Can't wait for Book 9 - and I have also listened to the audio edition - Tim Curry does an outstanding job - his voice drips with misery !

Summary: Horrible and Depressing
Review: ...The story is about ... orphans(who may i add lost their parents in a fire that happened while they were at the beach i.e. happy etc) and "unfortunate" events that befall them. ...I'm sure the writer... is very good, as i have read this story through. His imagery is very good and he has a good use of words, but the story matter is disgusting! I hereby request the author himself to discontinue these books, or at least end it on a happier note than the children walking off alone in a wasteland(the end of "The Vile Village"). Thank you.
