Rating: Summary: Some things just can't live up to anticipation.... Review: I love the LEFT BEHIND series, but feel like the most recent, THE INDWELLING, did not quite live up to my expectation/anticipation. Reminds me of how everyone could not wait until "PHANTOM MENACE" was released after loving the "STAR WARS TRILOGY". I agree with another reviewer that the authors are great at hooking the reader into the storyline only to sometimes graze the most interesting events. I plan to re-read this book prior to the Fall release of the next book. All the books have made great conversation with believers and non-believers.
Rating: Summary: End times information brought to life Review: I have read each book in the series. One leaves me waiting for the next. While the effect of the times portrayed may not be as horrifying as it surely could be, I appreciate the way it is presented for two reasons. Many people may not be able to grasp and digest the realism of such a devastating time; and many more simply may not wish to. The way in which the story is presented makes it appropriate for a vast portion of the poplulation. In a world of negativism and horrible crime, maybe this is all we can handle for now. Maybe some insight is better than no insight. Maybe focusing on God's mercy and his ability and willingness to help us through horrible situations is the reason to read this series--not to dwell on the devastation and ugliness that brings us to that point in the first place.
Rating: Summary: The Indwelling Review: The Indwelling provides moderate to good entertainment value, but provides little substance and is not as engaging as the previous books in the series. It seems like the authors were more concerned about producing another book than delivering something with depth. We continue to follow the saga of Rayford, Buck, Chaim and all the others, but the actually "indwelling" reffered to in the title does not occur until the last 15 pages of the book. I am looking forward to the remainder of the series, but hope to find more substance in the future releases.
Rating: Summary: The Indwelling: The Beast takes Posession Review: Simply the best one yet! I was hooked by page 40 and finished the book in a day and a half. There was a minimum of recapping of the prior story which was a major improvement. Also there was much more attention to the spiritual details of the character's lives which had been lacking since book #1. I was caught up in the action and wasn't disappointed in the least. I found the gruesome murders realistic and true to the brutality that Satan is capable of unleashing through his followers. I can only imagine what is in store for us in book #8....
Rating: Summary: Not so riveting Review: This is a great series and up until now I have been completely captivated. This book was a big let down. Unlike previous books, the plot just muddled along barely keeping my interest. You don't get to the biggest event in the Tribulation until the last 75 pages or so. Some of the inner conflicts the characters are going through seem superficial and far-fetched, especially after everything they have gone through. I, of course, will be buying the next book; but praying that the authors get back on track.
Rating: Summary: Still can't put them down Review: Overall, I would give this series so far a 5, although some books are better than others. I started reading this series back in February, and I've now finished The Indwelling. This book moves really slowly at times and there seems to be an awful lot happening in the span of just a few days (over nearly 400 pages). Despite this, it isn't difficult to follow, but I was disappointed at the end. I wanted more, and I think my disappointment is greater knowing that #8 won't be out until November. The "dream sequence" also seems a bit far-fetched. I am glad, however, that Rayford's whining seems to have stopped. And while I do have a problem with the turns in some of the characters' personalities (Chloe goes from being an independent college student to "the little woman", and the original members of the Trib Force ALWAYS seem to know the right thing to do), you do want to know what happens to them (even if you don't always care). It is compelling reading and very difficult to put down. I've had an interesting experience spiritually with these books, too. I am a Christian and a Catholic. Yes, I know these books were conceived by an evangelical preacher, so I expect a certain amount of fundamentalism. Generally I agree with their premise, and I have become stronger in my faith in Jesus as a result. But I am offended by the peppering of remarks that are clearly aimed at the deficiencies of certain religions. I can only point out the specific ones pertaining to Catholics ("...there are many ways to ensure eternal bliss...It is by being a good and kind human being and helping others" -- Leon Fortunato). This is obviously the reference to the inaccurate assumption that Catholics believe that faith in Jesus is not enough for eternal life. I think I am offended by these types of remarks because they seem to be thrown in as "jabs" with no real basis or follow-through. Still, I really enjoy these books and, whether you are religious or not, you have to admit that they really make you think.
Rating: Summary: Things are heating up! Review: I really enjoyed this newest edition of the Left Behind series. There were times in the some of the past books where the writing became a bit tedious for me, but not so in this book. Developing the characters, the way they cope (or lack of coping as the case may be) seems realistic. They approach dilemas in ways that are honest, asking questions I can see myself asking. Overall, a great read.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: It never ceases to amaze me how many "big fans" ofthe series there are. There is a website dedicated to the Left Behindseries...On the message board there we are able to talk to Jerry Jenkins. He is a wonderful Godly man with a fantastic sense of humor. Even before Assassins came out we were able to talk to him. After Assassins came out we asked him question about the Indwelling. One of the first questions was about the time length covered. He told us it would only cover a few days. The reason is we get to go through the rest of Gala week in much more detail. There is a reason behind everything he does. This book series is fictional and is meant for light, easy reading. The characters and their actions could easily be what you or I would do. It is also in no way, shape, or form meant to replace reading Revelation or be a companion to it. The authors have told us this. The reviews are asking if you enjoyed reading the book, not if you thought it covered too few days or it should have been longer. Please think of those things when you post reviews. The book goes as fast as it needs to and includes as much details as it needs to. Another helpful question is to ask yourself if you could do it better. The answer is probably not. Also, please try and keep spoilers off of here. People are looking for a review and not something which may spoil the story line for them. Overall, this is an excellent action packed book. One in which you will read cover to cover in no time at all. One in which you will truly enjoy.
Rating: Summary: The Indwelling... Book #7 of the Left Behind Series Review: The Indwelling takes about three or four days out of the middle of the Great Tribulation period. Set in the not-real distant future, the authors are constantly addressing the question, "What if the Rapture happened today?" All seven of these books so far have kept me riveted. I have enjoyed them immensely. While I know it takes a long time to get each book researched, written, printed, and distributed, my only complaint is the 7 or 8 months between books. AAAHHH! I waited for almost 8 months to find out who assasinated the Antichrist! For anyone searching for answers, I would send you to a local pastor of a Bible Teaching church. For good fiction involving events that we believe are to come, pick up these books. To God be the Glory!
Rating: Summary: The Indwelling Review: I am a very big fan of the Left Behind series and could hardly wait to received my copy. Unfortunely, I found this not quite up to what I expected. I read my copy in about 4 days but was disappointed. I can't point a finger at any particular reason - I just was disappointed. This doesn't however mean that I won't be impatiently wait for the next in the series. I would recommend these books to anyone who is interested in the Bible and end-times.
