Summary: Great sequel for Generations and Ashes of Eden.
Review: Great sequel for Generations and Ashes of Eden. I read where Shatner was doing a ST trilogy when he learned that the movie producers were killing him off. He died great didn't he! He made a difference. Well he made a difference to the world of ST novels as well. This is his work. I am only assuming that for him it was, well... important work.

As a sequel, it follows generations perfectly, and AoE not so perfectly. But, for all those goofs that hate Shatner, why did you even read this book, if you really did read it at all. Given what others left him, I thought he came up with a brilliant way to RETURN. I have the book and audio CD. Shatner reads the book on the CD and does a wonderful job. So here¡¦s to you and your friends Mr. Shatner :)! You just keep writing books about James Tiberius Kirk. Include Dr. Mc Coy in them will ya.

Summary: OK NOT A CLASSIC BUT QUITE ACTION FILLED
Review: I usually don't write a review unless I feel 5 stars are warranted but, this book was an edge of your seat adventure that brings together the best TREK heroes and villans. This is excellent escapism and well worth the price.

Summary: Shatner is the world's greatest monster
Review: William Shatner is a power-tripping, egotistical, buffoon. He's a terrible actor, director, producer, and writer. Don't get me wrong--he's also one of the most purely entertaining minds in Hollywood today. And this is clearly the funniest book in the entirety of human history.

"The Return" is classic Trek. It has a melodramatic plot literally covered stem to stern with plot holes that you could drive whole stars through. The entire premise itself is terribly flawed. What possible tactical advantage could ressurecting a 70 year dead minor footnote in history have? The book is clearly about what Shatner can get away with.

That's why its the funniest book in all history. Shatner thumbs his nose at Star Trek fans accross the board--while at the same time creating the ultimate mold no other Star Trek writer can ever aspire to. With this book Shatner has created the ultimate self-insertion fan-fiction. Kirk comes back from the dead then proceeds to show the entire galaxy who's boss, despite the fact that he's been dead for the majority of the past 60 or so years.

The plot is rediculous, the story is seamlessly integrated into the known Trek mythos, Kirk conquers the universe and Picard dressed up like a ninja. What more could you possibly want out of literature!?

Summary: Abandon Tek, stick to TRek! Shatner CAN write!
Review: Legends never die. Apparently. And apparently Jim Kirk is still going strong. Directly after the events in Generations, and brought back to life, rebuilt by a deadly alliance of the Borg and Romulans, an amnaesiac Kirk is convinced he must destroy Jean Luc Picard. He subsequently sets out to find him, and battle ensues. Eventually, all is put well with the world, and Kirk, Spock and McCoy (at 145 years old!) are reunited, and team up with the crew of the Enterprise-D and take on the enemy that corrupted Kirk with an explosive conclusion.

Read this novel. It is actually the second in the "Oddessy" trilogy, but the first one set in the "Next Gen" era, so in that sense it stands alone quite nicely, and is frankly incredible. I don't own my copy any more and frankly I miss it.

Summary: The Legend Returns
Review: William Shatner just liked to gave the story away for Star Trek
First Contact. But this was a good book the interaction btween
Kirk&Picard was just like what we saw in Star Trek:Genrations

Summary: Life after death, but Shatner needs to stick to acting
Review: As all Star Trek fans know, Captain James Tiberius Kirk is dead!
Caught up in the Nexus, he died as he and Captain Pikard saved
the universe one more time. Our focus now shifts to the more
"modern" times and the adventures of the New Generation crew.

Oops! There is one person who doesn't know about Kirk's death -
and that is William Shatner, the actor who portrayed Kirk for
over 25 years. And now in Star Trek: The Return, he tells us what
happened after the end of the movie. The death that seemed so
final may be cheated once more.

It seems that those bad old Romulans have now joined forces with
the mechanical Borg to rescue Kirk's katra (shades of Spock's
resurrection!) and to restore it to the body that they steal from
the grave. Why would they be so kind? Obviously to have Kirk use
his knowledge to destroy the one man who could stop their plans
to take over the universe - Captain Pikard.

Of course no one, other than Spock, believes Kirk is still alive.

After all, Captain Pikard saw him die; he buried Kirk himself.
But Spock reminds his friends that since he and Jim had shared
their mind-meld, he would know if Kirk were dead.

Soon the plot thickens as different characters come into battle
with the "dead" captain as Kirk tries to find out where Pikard is
and to seek the revenge that the Borg planted in his brain.

Luckily, as we already know, Jim Kirk is a stubborn man, and soon
begins to question part of the programming that has been inflicted on him. Thus there is hope that he can be rescued and
then turned against the Romulan plot. For this to work, however,
we are going to need the help of Riker, Spock, Data, Quark, Dr.
Bashir, and even old Dr. McCoy (who is still going strong at 144,
physically weakened by age, but mentally as alert and ornery as
ever).

One of the interesting subplots in this book is Data's attempt to
deal with his new emotion chip. Thus, like many adolescents, he
has learned a few good cuss words but doesn't know when they
should be used and when they should be left alone! He is also
facing the great emotional mood swings that are typical of the
teen years.

This isn't the best written of the Star Trek novels; Shatner's
strength is apparently on the stage, not behind his desk. But the
story he tells is intriguing enough that it kept my interest
throughout the book.

If you enjoy the Star Trek universe, this is a book you will want
to read.

Summary: Interesting read, but annoyed
Review: After reading this book I can honestly say that it is one of the most intriguing trek novels written to date. I give Shatner his due, he tells a fun story, if implausible at times. I liked the Borg element and the way Shatner put together some interesting ideas. I guess what really annoyed me is the way Shatner treats characters other than kirk. In a word he butchers them. Kirk defeats worf in combat. Picard a blithering idiot while kirk has the situation well in hand. The next generation crew idiotic compared to him. Kirk is made out to be the greatest thing the galaxy has ever known. In other words superman!! But I suppose the most troubling thing about the 2 Shatner books that I have read so far(I also reviewed avenger tonight) is how the next generation crew are dumped on by Shatner. I have spectre, dark victory, and preserver and I am concerned What will be next? Kirk defeats the entire dominion in a runabout. I don't know, I liked the return because Shatner told a good story but something has to be done about the damage that gets done to characters. Mr. Shatner help me out!!

Summary: Kirk and Picard Together Again
Review: Shatner returns the reader to Kirk's makeshift grave following the events in Generations. Kirk is resurrected by alien technology and there are Borg, Romulans, members of both generations, and mistrust between both. I was totally taken aback by a revelation about the Borg's first encounter with the Federation. If anyone saw that acomin' they are totally more adept at such things than I. There are also some very touching moments between Kirk, Spock, and the old country doctor. I can't wait to finish Mr. Shatner's first series without waiting a year between each section.

Summary: Indescribably BAD
Review: Allow me to sum up this book in one sentence: Kirk comes back from the dead, beats up all the... TNG characters, proves himself smarter than everyone and SINGLEHANDEDLY kills all the borg. You expect a little ego from big Bill Shatner, but this is ridiculous - I'm honestly surprised he didn't make a point of mentioning how well-hung his alter-ego is. Worst of all is the fact that he couldn't write if his life depended on it. The diction is poor, the dialogue is awful, the descriptions are horrible, the characters are wooden and the story is simply bad on so many levels I simply don't know where to begin. Every once in a while you can see the (normally decent)writing of the Stevens' show through the dross, but that's like wading into a swimming pool full of manure in order to get a few buried cubic zirconiums. Unless your idea of a good read involves massive Shatnerian ego trips, avoid this [junk] like the plague.

Summary: Shatner Ressurects Kirk!
Review: Many were ultimately grieve-stircken to see Captian Kirk get killed at the end of "Star Trek Generations," but rest assure that Kirk is alive and well even if we don't see him in any new movie or any of the other Star Trek shows! Having made an uneasy alliance, the Borg and the Romulans have brought Kirk back from the dead to kill Captain Jean-Luc Picard! And it falls not only to Ambassador Spock, but the crew of the "Next Generation" as well to stop all chaos from happening! Not only do you have the orignal Star Trek crew teamed up again with the "Next Generation" Shatner also brings in the crew of "Deep Space Nine" as well! Look for Quark and Dr. Bashir in this novel! Not only is the story action-packed, but it also ties up some lose ends with the movies and episodes of Star Trek as well! If you are a die-hard Star Trek fan, then you'll know what I mean when you read this novel! It was a wise move for Shatner to team-up again with co-writers Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens for this novel (look for the trio's wrok in their other novel: "Star Trek: The Ashes of Eden")! Long live William shatner and Captain James Tiberius Kirk!
