Rating: Summary: I found it interesting Review: Although I have read other Shattner creations and found them quite stimulating, this book I have found predictable in some areas and interesting in others. Even though this is a well constructed and rounded off at the corners, the content and the well written "Ster Trek" quality kind of diminishes as the character of Picard must in a finally combine again the Picard/Kirk allience. This, although as exciting as the Generations communion, had an almost fatalistic requirement with the main characters fighting and becoming friends to save the world plot, that was probably better left to the universe hanging in the ballance and the characters at each others heals veing for revenge. The over all concept of the book was great IF the 'cliffhanging' concept was used for content of character developement. What kind of real thoughts were going through your mind at the time, hate, regret, fear, hey what happened to thoughs holes in my real life? This book almost felt like a 'I gotta crank this one out before the deadline. Oh here is a great thing to throw in' kind of novel. I did like the confrontations between the Kirk character and the new crew of the Enterprise. It was probably the thing that kept me sucked to the pages of this novel. In closing, the writing of Shattner has met a snag along the way and I hope he finds his center of the Star Trek universe again so I can really enjoy the general quality of this well defined author.
Rating: Summary: It's all tied together Review: Bill took a very interesting approach with this one. He brought together elements from the past with V'Ger, throughout his own stint, and into the "future" with the Borg and beyond Generations. Not what I expected when I started to read it - better than what I thought it would be.
Rating: Summary: Probably Shatner's best work of art Review: If you haven't read this book, it is a must to put on your christmas list or your reading list. The way that Kirk handles the Enterprise Crew when looking for Picard is really outstanding. It is as though he really is a Borg with only one objection, to KILL Picard. Then the way the book ends is truly fantastic. Plus all the futuristic technology even for Star Trek is truly an advanced step from TNG. This is truly a must for any Star Trek fan.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully fun!! Review: A must buy for any Star Trek or Sci-fi fan. It really is great with them all (all the series except voyager) in one book. Shatner is a excellent author. I read it many times through. It provides a wonderful new perspective. I think it is a great book and provides many diffrent enemies for Kirk and Picard. The ending is great! Espeacially iwth the borg.
Rating: Summary: Great Work Shatner!! Review: One of the best ST/ST:TNG story I ever read!I have expected Kirk to come back but nothing this big. Though some part may be a bit confusing if you've seen First Contact, but tha plot for The Return is better than FC.
Rating: Summary: Terrific!!!!!!!! Review: I didn't think William Shatner could top Ashes of Eden, but then, The Return wasn't out yet! I've read all the Borg books so far and this one was the best. I really think this one should have been the movie that First Contact was.
Rating: Summary: What was Paramount thinking? Review: First Contact was a wonderful movie but; this story should have been filmed before First Contact. I read this around the time First Contact came out so I don't remember as much about it as I did when it was fresh in my mind, but I do know that I laughed and I cried, and I was rivited to my seat while I read it. I truly can say I was sorry it ended, it was like saying good-bye to an old friend. I really didn't want this friend to leave, because I new I would never see him again. I cried when it was over for two reasons 1. my friend was gone and 2. my book was over. Many thanks to William Shatner for a MOST enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: Shatner's Delusion - Kirk as Superman Review: I'm not sure which is less forgivable, Shatner's distorted vision of Kirk as a super-strong, super-intelligent being or his 2-dimensional portrayal of all of the other cast members of Star Trek and The Next Generation. You would think that with the vast amount that has been filmed and written this would be the easy part.
The book is well written and the ideas behind the plot are interesting and consistent with the Star Trek mythos. The authors' descent into Kirk hero-worship is inescapable on any page. This MAY have been a better book if written as a straight science fiction novel rather than a 'Star Trek' novel.
I'm glad I borrowed it from the Library. I certainly got my money's worth
Rating: Summary: It still better than the other Star Trek books! Review: At first its a little slow with the next generation crew then towards the middle it starts to pick up when Kirk comes on the scene
Rating: Summary: Doubts about the author's motives Review: While the story is great and the writing style is excellent, I still have the feeling that this book is more than just a novel. Sometimes, it feels like it is a novelised movie. Perhaps Shatner proposed an idea for a next movie after Generations, but Paramount turned it down. Shatner/Kirk doesn't/didn't want to die
