Summary: Mind Candy
Review: A good, quick read. I would like more psychology, less thriller but that's my bias. The plot is intriguing with all the appropriate twists and turns. There are a few surprises. I like how White brings Boulder in to the plot. A worthy effort.

Summary: Revelation On White
Review: After having read this book and The Program, which are very similar in that they focus on two major characters who happen to be getting therapy from Gregory, rather than focusing on Gregory and Lauren, I have come to the conclusion that White's success is purely because of his excellent plots. Gregory, Lauren and Purdy are nowhere near as interesting as, for example, Alex Delaware, Milo Sturgis and Robin Castagna, but where White really shines is in creating ripping good mysteries. That is why, when we don't have to read so much of Alan's simpering, these books become all the better. And, in this book, we didn't see much of Alan and Lauren at all. That's why, all the way until the ending, the book was White's best. I will say, however, that I did not like the ending, because that was the one place he chose to put the focus back on Alan, instead of leaving it on Kelda and Clone, who are truluy memorable characters. So, my advice to White is keep writing Gregory novels, but keep deemphasizing him and, instead, emphasize his patients.

Summary: Does the End Justify the Means
Review: Alan Gregory is growing a little tired and weary in his practice and beginning to question his effectiveness as a psychologist. He's always been conscientious about his confidentiality requirements as a practicing therapist, however, in the book before The Best Revenge not sharing information created more problems than he could have anticipated. In Revenge he has a client, Kelda James, who is an FBI agent with a long list of problems.

The story opens with Kelda picking up a prisoner who is being released from Death Row where he spent several years serving time for a murder that DNA evidence now shows he did not commit. Tom Clone, the released prisoner, goes home to his grandfather who loves him but is not totally sure of his innocence. When his grandfather suggests he get into therapy, Tom turns to Kelda for a recommendation and she leads him to Alan Gregory. The suspense picks up as Kelda starts to become involved with Tom, and the police seem to be pursuing Tom all over again.

Did Tom kill Ivy, and if not, who did kill her. How did Kelda come into the evidence that supposedly cleared Tom? These are questions that Dr. Gregory ends up in the middle of with information that Sam Purdy needs in order to prevent another death. The ending is a surprise and worth waiting for. It's another good Stephen White Book to enjoy.

Summary: Highly recommended thriller
Review: FBI special agent Kelda James is considered by many a hero after rescuing a kidnapped girl. She has now volunteered to pick up and deliver from prison a man who was condemned to death and not only taken off death row but freed after information obtained by Kelda that appears to exonerate him. The man, Tom Clone, has served seven years for a crime he apparently didn't commit. He needs counciling and Kelda refers him to her own analyst, Psychologist Alan Gregory. Alan soon determines that the connection between Kelda and tom is much more than it seems. All becomes divulges through several twists of the very compelling plot.
Stephen White is a much heralded thriller writer. His main protagonist is Alan Gregory, a psychologist like himself. What is most impressive about this writer is his ability to delve into characters without sacrificing the plot or pacing. He actually reminds me of Lawrence Block with his Scutter books. White is that good. The plot is clever. It is well paced and the surprises in store appear to be well thought out. Highly recommended.

Summary: Great read
Review: Great read, very enjoyable. Getting four instead of five stars because the loose threads were wrapped up in a rather silly way.

Summary: Another great Stephen White novel!
Review: Having read all of Stephen White's books, I think the Best Revenge lives up to his other works. Usually after a few books by an author, I can read the first chapter and tell you the ending of the book. This book made me question the characters until the end. Great job Stephen!!

Summary: A Compelling Read
Review: I always look forward to a new Stephen White novel. I really like his main character, Alan Gregory, and I almost feel as though I know him. This book kept me guessing to the end. The plot twists concerning "who did what" were slick. The ending was a bit much when bullets starting flying everywhere in the dark, but I guess that's what we've come to expect at the climax of a story--especially a mystery/thriller. I did think that Alan acted very irresponsibly at the ending when he tried to take care of things without the help of the police. That didn't see realistic to me. I would love to read more about Kelda James, the female FBI agent who was the main female protagonist in the book. She was flawed, but gutsy. Her next adventure would make a good read. All in all, it was a really good story, and I didn't want to put it down.

Summary: A little disappointing ...
Review: I may have been expecting too much, but I found this Stephen White book falling a little short of all the hype. It is, however, the first of his books that I have read and I think I will give another one a try before I mark him off my "must read" list.
