Area 51: The Mission

Summary: Not The Best
Review: Area 51 the Mission that was written by Robert Doherty was not the best. For three differant reasons one, it had tech. terms that nobody would understand; for example DOD, FLTSATCOM. It also had to many characters and you could not keep up with them and forget who everbody was. Finally it was pretty much boring the only action in it was when the man litteraly tore the girl in half with a pistol. When rated it would probably rate a TWO!

Summary: A big disappointment
Review: I struggled through the first book of the series. I tried again with this one because Doherty's ideas are clever, I love Sci Fi and was excited by the preface - new ideas! Both books could have been pretty good. Unfortunately, his writing style is poor - superfluous conversations, unnecessary, overdone boring descriptions of day to day human behaviors, redundancy of words in the same sentence, poorly developed characters that speak their lines like comic book characters reading a script word for word. I read at least a book a week. Hard to believe that so many people enjoyed the book which was so tediously written. What are they teaching kids in school that they can find such bad literary style good reading! I found it difficult to envision the characters or the scenes, (very important in good writing - to bring the reader into seeing it in his mind as real.) I had to go back and re-read sections because the excess babble distracted me from the plot. Really too bad because he had a great imaginative start. I haven't read his books under his other name (Mayer?) but I probably won't waste my time. If the reader wants to make a comparison, read someone with great style and character development - try Stephen White, or Deane Koontz. Arthur C. Clarke was also great until his later books when he turned them over to another writer! Not worth the time to read!

Review: I've enjoyed all these books-- read them from Area 51 through The Sphinx this past weekend. Highly recommended

Review: It's not a solid book or series. The Mission was slow in several places. Like several other reviewers, I have to question where all of these 5 star reviews came from (Many of them sound WAY too similar.) Some of the locations and objects that the author ties together seem a little far fetched, so I read it with a few grains of salt.

Summary: History Is Once Again Changed
Review: Here is yet another example of the mythology of aliens and UFOs planted by Doherty to really stir the pot of exciting as well as strange theories. To think that history is not as originally percepted really fascinates me and keep in mind that I'm speaking in terms of a piece of fictional writing as I don't want anyone jumping to the conclusion that I believe this is true. It is my opinion that this is a fantastic novel and I once again recommend it to anyone who can read the book with enjoyment and at the same time realize that this is fiction.

Review: Been quite a while since I've read something so intriguing. This story is rife with possibilities so far. A bit complicated at times-- what with the Guides, Mission, Ones Who Wait, etc. but I'm sticking with it.

Review: A friend gave me the first book in this series and I've since devoured the next two. Fast paced action, mixed with legends and modern myths make for a fun read.

Review: I thought this book, as well as the other area 51 books were great. They kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I read them, however, the charcters could use some work. I agree with the other readers who have commented on this book, keep working on it. I am looking forward to the other books in the series that are due to be released soon. I recommend this book.

Review: I had the misfortune to read "Z" by Bob Mayer before reading this book. What a crock. The small bits cut and pasted between Z and his other Area 51 novels was kinda ok, but in this one? What's the matter Bob, in a rush to get to print? Next time, give us break. Do something original or don't bother.
