Rating: Summary: I liked this book. Review: Jack Londons Call of the Wild is a good book. There are many exciting things to happen in this story. After Buck(the main character)is stlen and taken to Yuon,Alaska he has to learn to live in the wild. My favorite part is when Buck kills Spitz(the lead dog,who is very mean). One thing I didn't like about this story is how Buck went through so many mean owners. Bucks best owner was John Thorton who took very good care of him. One time he bet that Buck could pull a thousand poundsof flour,so he took buck in his hands and says "As you love me." Then Buck did it. Overall this was a good book and I recomend it because it will keep you reading.
Rating: Summary: This book was about a dog named buck and his jorney Review: The Call of the Wild by Jack London has many negatives and positives. The book is very descriptive. The way the author describes the Yukon and their hardships was one of the interesting parts of the book.In the last chapter Buck becomes part of the wild and hears the call,as stated on page 61."It was the call, the many noted call, sounding mole luringly and compelling then ever before. And never before was he ready to obey. John Thorton was dead. The last tie was broken. Man and the claims of man no longer bound him."Based on my opinion, one of the negatives of this book is the story is based on the life of a dog and not a humanbeing. Also,it seemed like some of the chapters dragged on and did not get to the point.Over all the book was very interesting and kept me in suspense.I would not soy it was the best book I've ever read, but I do recommened it.
Rating: Summary: This book is about a great dog turned into a wolf. Review: I would strongly stress that you please give The Call of the Wild. This story is great. In this book it has it all suspense, action, and drama. The part of this book that really makes the book great is when Buck, the protagonist and Spitz, the antagonist get into a brawl. This book really kept me on the edge of my seat. Sure it had some flaws, but what book doesn't? This story is also very discriptive about everything, mainly the dogs. The Call of the Wild is a really good book.
Rating: Summary: This book is a let down. Review: If you are interested in reading a srory you cannot relate to, try "Call of the Wild" by Jack London. This book was a real let down. In the begining a swindler named Manuel got me interested, but he soon exited the story. The setting never got devloped properly and would change before I could visualize it. Although the book had up's in the dog fights the constant repetition was ever present in my mind. Of the little dialouge in the book, my Favorite line is "I spik true w'en I say dat Buck two devils." Francois said this on page 25. This line was said about Buck after he kills a fellow dog. This story never got me into it enough to like it, and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Two thumbs up! Review: Jack London's "The Call of the Wild" is a great book. It may be a little sensetive to the dog lover, but isn't too bad. I would definitely recommend this book for someone to read. "The Call of the Wild" is very descriptive. It describes the Terrain of the northern goldrush. A great part about this book is the length. It isn't a long book to read and keeps you reading once you've started. I like how Jack London tells how and what the dogs are feeling throughout the book. He gives the dogs great human characteristics. Even though the book is short some of the reading may seem a little irrelevent. This is an overall great book. I give it two thumbs up! Here is a great quote from the book. "Death, as a cessation of movement, as a passing out and away from the lives of living, he knew, and he knew John Thornton was dead."
Rating: Summary: I wouldn't recommend reading this novel. Review: I would not recommend reading The Call of the Wild by Jack London because although it has its high points the lower parts are indeed low. While the brutal fight scenes keep you entertained for a brief period of time, the ending is slow and some of the reading seems irrelevant. There is a sense of bondage between dog and man in this novel but in some instances the events seem far fetched with Buck, the protagonist, always seeming to come out on top. A quote to support this is in chapter five on page fourty when John Thorton comes to Buck's rescue. He says "If you strike that dog again, I'll kill you." This is an example where any other dog would have been beaten to death while Buck gets out alive. This is a detailed novel with a good description of Buck's life but at the same time the reader, most likely, cannot relate to the story. The lower points of this story drive me to not recommend the reading of this novel.
Rating: Summary: Call of the wild is about a dog named Buck. Review: Call of the wild is about a dog named Buck. Who was torn from the cozy life he was born in and placed in the primitive world. During Bucks travel from one world to the next, Jack London graphically expresses the change in behavior and attitude as Buck goes from domestic to primitive. Throughout the story you are introduced to many different characters which help Buck along. For example, "The Man in the Red Sweater" who introduced buck to the club, and said "Well Buck we've had our little ruction and the best thing we can do is to let it go at that.", Spitz who was very jealous of Buck. The most important element that taught Buck to adapt to his surrounding would have to be his surroundings which taught him "Survival of the fittest." Throughtout the chapters you watch as Buck goes from being a faithful, kind, loving, passionate animal to being a beast. But although buck has been beaten and mis-treated by man, He still has some compassion. This is expressed when Buck meets John Thorton. This is where the saying " A dog is mans best friend" is brought to life. In conclusion I would recommand you read this book because it will both intrigue and captivate you.
Rating: Summary: I think Call of the Wild by Jack London was an alright book. Review: I think Call of the Wild by Jack London was an alright book. About a trip through the Yukon with a bunch of sled dogs including Buck. "Naivre such a dog as dat Buck"(pg 27) was said by Francois, which is quite true. Buck was a great dog very strong and he worked hard if you treated him right. He was especially loyal to John Thorton, whom of which he cared very much for. When John Thornton was murdered Buck became free and loved it. John Thorton was Bucks last tie to mankind, when he died he had nothing left but the wild.I thind this book had a good plot and some great points, but all in all I didn't like it. It just wasn't an appealing subject to me.
Rating: Summary: The Call of the Wild is descriptive and keeps you reading. Review: In my opinion, The Call of the Wild by Jack London, is a very descriptive book. The novel shows how the dogs feel as if they are human. The setting of the book is not great because it jumps back and forth from one place to another. Another bad thing about the novel is Jack London makes man look like animal killers when they beat the dogs. London did keep me reading because I wanted to know what was going to happen with Buck and if they would make it to there destination. My favorite part of the book is in the beginning London describes the seeting of the sun-kissed Santa Clara Valley where Judge Miller lives. A quote I will always remember is "Well, Bck, my boy, we've had our little runction, and the best thing we can do is to let it go at that. You've learned your place, and I know mine. Be a good dog and all'll go well and the goose hang high. Be a bad dog, and I'll whale the stuffin' outa you." All in all this was a good book and I learned to like it.
Rating: Summary: This book is about a dog who devolves into the primitive. Review: Jack London's The Call of the Wild, I think, wasn't that great. It was descriptive, nd the characters did seem real, but I wouldn't recomend it. For one thing, there isn't much dialogue, and when there is, it's not very understandable. For example: "T'ree vair good dogs. Dat Buck, heem pool lak hell. I tich heem queek as anyting." Ther are worse, but I could't understand them. Also, I don't like the way that all of the characters died (or left without return) except Buck. I don't think that the main character should miraculously live through everything, just because he's the main character. That is wht I think about Jack London's The Call of the Wild.
