Rating: Summary: BEAUTIFUL , SENSITIVE, TOUCHING......UNFORGETTABLE. Review: John Edward must, indeed, possess the gentleness of a lamb, the mystical wonder of an angel and the inner personal strength of the Dalai Lama. The words found in this book will soothe your soul, warm your heart, and provide many intense thought-provoking moments. Do not let the length of the book deceive you into thinking there cannot be much here to consider. I have read books with hundreds upon hundreds of pages that say very little and are soon forgotten; there are much shorter ones that stay with you for a lifetime. "What if God were the Sun" is one of the most beautiful books ever written; one that will leave you with a silent tear as you read of one family's compassion, tragedy and ultimate love for each other throughout the generations. If we all had a John Edward beside us in time of loss, when we most need emotional healing, life's journey would be much easier, and the uncertainty of what lies beyond this world, less feared. The bridge between life and death take on new meaning in this book, one of inner peace and tranquillty. I highly recommend this book, as well as one additional book, "Don't Let Death Ruin Your Life" by author, Jill Brooke. Both deal with the same subject but in a slightly different light.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely WONDERFUL Review: John Edward's first fictional book reflects much of his work in real life. It is a wonderful and heartfelt account of how one family copes with the loss of a very close loved one. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has lost someone close to them. I was so wrapped up in it from the first few pages that I finished it in one sitting. It is truly a wonderful read, but remember to have a full stock of tissues!

Rating: Summary: A fascinating book by an equally-fascinating author. Review: Lately, I've become fascinated, if not quite addicted, to watching a late-night program called "Crossings with John Edward." John Edward is a psychic medium who claims he communicates with people who have passed from this life, and from watching his show, I'd say his claims are pretty good - but that's another story. Edward has branched out into the literary world to bring his message of validation in this life in his new novel, "What If God Were The Sun?" In his story, the central character is Timothy Callahan, a man who hails from a large Italian American family, a typical close-knit family that loves big gatherings. But above all else, the Callahans love one another. However tragedy has struck this boisterious family when Timothy's mother discovers she has cancer. As the family struggles to deal with this new phase of their lives, Timothy begins to wonder what happens after someone dies, when they cross over to the afterlife. In one instance as the family watches old home movies, he wonders to himself, "As I look over at my mom, I know that she's wondering if all these faces of yesteryear will be the faces of her tomorrows. Will she see them when she crosses over? Will her loved ones welcome her on the other side, as we all want to believe? I hope so." As his mother's struggles with her battle with cancer progresses, Timothy remembers back to his childhood when his mother explained that God was the sun, an epiphany that becomes more tangible as he wrestles with impending death. As the story comes to it's emotional and dramatic end, is it the death of Timothy's mother we've been following or someone else's journey to the afterlife? Readers will be surprised. "What If God Were The Sun?" will probably not win any big prizes for being great literature, and at some points it's hard to figure out just who the narrator is talking about, but it's overall message is relatively simple. Edward's main point is to pass along the message of letting the important people in your life know that you care for them in this lifetime. He offers a comforting message that love that can bridge even death. In his work as a psychic medium, Edward helps survivors work through the overwhelming and sometimes unbearable grief of losing a loved one. I was personally touched by this sensitive story. Whether you believe in an afterlife or not, it's kind of nice to think that the ones we love might be watching out for us after they're gone. I'd like to think my dad and aunt are watching out for me. Sharon Galligar Chance, Times Record News
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: Make sure you have a box of kleenex when you read this book! Edward's novel is special and so poetic. (from "What if God where the sun" John Edward) "...anytime a special memory comes into my mind. It's like a wave that washes onto the shore. The tide brings in the memory and soaks the shore...and it absorbs the water. Our memories are the waves, and we are the shore. When we cry, we release the negative part of the memory and pay tribute to it. The sad part is pulled out to sea...out of you" I love the Characters and the fact that you think the book starts off at one place and it ends with an interesting ending..or should I say Beginning <grin>. You'll know what I mean if you get the book. True Edward fans will know where he gets some of the material for the Novel...I mean it takes place in Glen Cove. But the distraction of you thinking whether Edward is really writing about himself goes away quickly. The writing is so rich. Although as a fan I'd like to think that through his characters he has shared a part of himself and his feeling about crossing over because of his ability to write with such emotion. What a heart!~ The section about the explaination about the title...Phew...so beautiful! A warning though...if you get this book...you will want to share it will anyone you love. The books message is a true gift.... Thanks John!
Rating: Summary: dissapointed Review: Not his best work. It is just okay and I can not recomend this book. His book One Last Time is much better.
Rating: Summary: Simplistic Review: Simplistic and not nearly as good as his nonfiction books about his real life. His real experiences are so amazing that I can't imagine why he would feel a need to make up a story like this, which is sweet but simplistic and not at all unusual. He's a pyschic, not a writer, and he should stick with telling his excellent real stories based on his amazing life.(I have similar reactions to Chopra's fiction. Why do these spiritually talented people feel a need to move into fiction?)
Rating: Summary: A good book for sharing. Review: This book acts as a "primer" on the afterlife told as a simple family tale. Spiritual but non-denominational, it is lovely, comforting, easy and quick to read. For those of us brought up in a "fear of God" atmosphere, this is a book we wish we'd had long ago when we feared death and blamed God for taking people from us. It's a really good book for sharing, esp. with those who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Rating: Summary: A Novel Explanation Review: This book is a novel, and not a "One Last Time" Part 2. It is obviously semi-autobiographical, full of big family sentimentality, lots of love between generations and even a moving relationship with a dog. I think John Edward used this form to answer, as far as he is able, the questions "what does he see?," "What is the after death experience like and what is the next world like?" and "How do those who have crossed over feel and communicate?" John Edward has explained that he can't give definitive answers to these questions, but this novel does reveal what he knows. If these are questions in your mind, the novel will satisfy your curiosity.
