Summary: Pour Your Heart into It
Review: Schultz, chairman and CEO of Starbucks, and writer-researcher Yang trace the growth and development of Starbucks from a single store in Seattle, which in 1973 sold only dark-roasted coffee beans, to the international business it has become today. Schultz does not conceal his passion for good coffee or for his company. His initial goals were to introduce Americans to really fine coffee, provide people with a "third place" to gather, and treat his employees with dignity. The extent to which he succeeded and the obstacles encountered along the way are the subjects he tackles here. This is not, in the strictest sense, a how-to book despite its considerable detail but more a motivational title. Recommended for large public libraries.'

Summary: Good And Greedy just like Howard Schultz!!!
Review: DOnt believe everything you read! I warn you beforehand, this book is really enjoyable but does it tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth? No!!! NO!!! NO!!!
A more profit hungry company you can't find on this planet. He tries to hide this fact by talking about "passion for coffee", "coffeee quality" and "The Starbucks experience". Come on, we who work in the coffee industry knows the real facts. It's not this big mystery or an difficult art! IF you ever compared an real barista in Italy and one of Starbucks Im pretty sure that the Italian Barista would walk away as the winner!
Starbucks = big mouth + profit hungry

So what about the book? Well its really good from a business point of view. Everything on how it is to start a company, grow a company to how to deal with diffculties. I enjoyed this book very much.
But be a critic, dont believe everything you read! Howard Schultz is a sinner when it comes to business ethics!!! ITs pretty obvious if you read the book that Share holders value is what Starbucks is about. NO, customers arent their first priority...even though they try to convince you of that in almost every chapter!
OPEN YOUR EYES!!! DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!!!

Summary: Great Management Lessons
Review: A book that is so hard to put down once you start to read it. I am a coffee lover and there are lots of Starbucks in Singapore where I am from BUT I was not a Starbucks fan before I started reading this book. Howard Schultz poured his heart into this books as much as he did for Starbucks.

Lots of management lessons one can learn from him and Starbucks Corp. Top companies should learn NOT to cut costs through employee benefits! Never also cut costs on quality. Give customers what they really want and not what you think they want ... ...

I am a convert now ... gimme a grande latte for here anytime!

Summary: Great Insight into building a store as well as a brand!
Review: As someone who is seriously contemplating building a coffee house, I found this book a tremendous insight into the juggurnaut known as Starbucks. Schultz adds some yeast to how things came about, but overall I was impressed with his honest observations. This book has provded me with ideas that I will incorporate into my own coffee business. If you are thinking about going into the coffee business, you should read this book. If you are not contemplating business, it is still a good read.

Summary: Pour Your Heart Into It
Review: Like so many other books written by heads of business enterprises, this one is also inspiring, BUT... But does the author put his money where his mouth is? If you read this book but failed to look at Starbucks' track record, you could be fooled into thinking that the author and his company are angelic. Not necessarily. Starbucks does not support organic farming nor fair trade. Both of these issues show that the man behind the company is more into making money than doing that which is right. Non organic coffee is grown with deadly, cancer-causing pesticides; while non organic decaf also contains hexane. Wake up and smell the coffee!...

Summary: Just Excellent, like Starbucks Coffee and Hot Chocolate!
Review: Pour Your Heart into It : How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time is a simple book, and when I say "simple" is becouse to be and to have a simple point of view is the most dificult hability that people have today.
We are used to solve problems, so, we think in problems. What we don't know is that usually the answers are simple and we are not prepared to think simple.
Congratulations Mr. Schultz. You have a non linear vision and you know as well as that a company is constructed by and for people, by our feelings, by our heart and have to be profitatle and to have social responsability....

Review: Very inspiring for those who start out in life less privileged than others. A very down to earth style that even us Brits can relate to. An excellent read and a real inspiration.

Summary: Indispensable!
Review: Even though I am not an English native speaker, I can understand it thoroughly. The author's style is simple and easy to understand. The book explains how Howard Schultz built his world-renowned coffee company step-by-step, over a decade. I highly recommend this book not only for one who is interested in business, but for all you guys out there! This book is the incomparable!!

Summary: A great book but...
Review: the last few sections were weak. It was a great read from the start where Howard talked about his passion for coffee, how he saw the pontential and how he believed in his dream. The book is very inspiring and should be read by those plannnig to go into their own business (which I subsequently did). He has some good management tips one of which stuck with me: hire people who are smart and good in what they do but never feel intimated by them. Let them do what they have to. How true indeed!

However, what stopped me from giving it 5 stars was that I found the last bits of the book too much of a "I love me". But all that said and done, this is definitely a great book to read for all those planning to "follow their dreams". I know I did!

Summary: Highly Recommended!
Review: This book tells the story of Starbucks' meteoric rise- how a few stores in Seattle grew into more than 1,600 stores worldwide. Starbucks built its brand by putting people, both employees and customers, first and by emphasizing product quality over marketing. Starbucks founder Howard Schultz and reporter Dori Jones Yang have written a fascinating, inspiring, and highly readable book. It emphasizes business wisdom over business tips. Schultz focuses on stories that emphasize how enthusiasm, romance, and passion can get the job done. He also talks about he turned a small business into a ubiquitous business that opens a new store almost every day. This book tells one of the most amazing, important business stories in recent years. We [...] recommend it to consumer product marketers and to entrepreneurs, managers and executives young and old.
