Rating: Summary: Stone Cold Paradise Review: The latest Stone Barrington book is the best by far - pure escapism. You can't take these books too seriously. Woods must write them with tongue-firmly-in-cheek.All of the characters we love, Dino, Dolce, Allison and Paul Manning (from Dead in the Water) are involved in this intricate plot. Even selfish Arrington makes an appearance (although I am growing tired of her - Stone is too good for her). Stone is called in to help a computer magnate find the woman of his dreams. Little does Stone know that he will become embroiled with a couple who were both supposedly executed on a Carribean island years before. As always, Stone's sexual escapades are an integral part of the book. In past offerings, Stone never met a woman he could so "No" to. Now, finally, he seems to have developed a conscious. He at least THINKS about saying "No". The plot moves along at a quick pace, the characters are well developed and then ending doesn't fall apart (or wrap up too quickly). It left me ready for Stone's next great adventure.
Rating: Summary: Same Old, Same Old Review: If you have read previous Books in the Stone Barrington series, don't pay much to read this one. It's the same old story; rich clients, gourmet food, fast cars, hot broads. On the other hand, what's wrong with that story? Barrington, who eats incessantly, never exercises but never gains weight, is in Palm Beach cavorting with characters from previous Woods' novels. Woods even brings back some dead characters rather than bother writing something new. Unless you are new to the series, pass on the rehash.
Rating: Summary: Enough of Stone Review: This book starts out from where we were left dangling at the end of the last Stone Barrington book. It is filled with the same slick characters, plus a few new ones thrown in.Stone is sent to Palm Beach with the impossible assignment of finding a woman, whom he manages to find immediately. She turns out to be Allison, from the past, who along with her husband,Paul, contrived a massive con game in an earlier book.Paul is again the main villain with a secondary villain thrown in to confuse the plot.Stone immediately falls into bed with Callie, who has a job but doesn't appear to ever work. Dino arrives from his NYPD job to aid Stone, as the Palm Beach police seem ineffective.Of course, Arrington briefly appears as does his non-wife,Dolce,who seeks revenge. The entire Palm Beach Scene plays a vital role in this book with its lavish parties, expensive cars, private clubs, and Stone, whose life is always endangered, manages to partake of all the glamour The entire plot is so convoluted with these various characters at odds with one another it gets tedious At a point in the book I was hoping that one of the villains would wipe out Stone and his tiresome friends to put an end to this,as there is a certainty that there will be yet another Stone Barrington book with the same wordly boring characters
Rating: Summary: Cold Paradise Review: "Cold Paradise" is the latest Stone Barrington novel by Stuart Woods. Stone is hired by rich man Thad Shamus to find a woman named Liz that he met in the Hamptons and wanted to see again. Stone travels to Palm Beach, Florida and finds Liz Harding rather quickly. Liz is actually Allison Manning, Stone's former client with whom Stone had a brief affair. Allison (Liz) retains Stone to do some legal work, and the rest of the book is devoted to finding Allison's husband, Paul Manning. For Stone Barrington readers, Stone once again beds a beautiful woman, Callie Hodges, Thad's girl Friday. This novel is not bad, but I expect better from Stuart Woods.
Rating: Summary: Awful; huge disappointment Review: This story was so ridculous. Stone Barrington is asked to find a woman that Todd, a billionaire met in a restaurant in New York who went to Palm Beach (Todd doesn't even know her name). Of course Stone finds her almost immediately and discovers that he has previously defended her. Puhleeze! And then the billionaire allows him to stay on his yacht where of course Stone immediately beds Todd's assistant (I really don't what to call her, but she sleeps on the yacht too). And then there's Stone wacko "wife" who shows up. Story was way too stupid. Bring back Vance Calder from the dead. Stone is too boring at this point.
Rating: Summary: Fun read Review: Like all Stone Barrington novels this was an enjoyable read for a day at the beach. Also like all Stone Barrington novels it is very superficial and not very deep. The characters, including Stone, are all one dimensonal and the plot is fairly flimsy with a predictable ending. Yet despite these flaws it is still an enjoyable book. I guess the secret to his success is that the reader gets to live vicariously through Stone who basically has it all. Basically it is a "trashy" mystery novel, but a fun and easy read.
Rating: Summary: What Happened to the real Stone Barrington???? Review: This was a very light, entertaining novel but if I were you, I would definitely wait for the paperback edition.... While I enjoy reading anything that Stuart Woods puts on paper, Cold Paradise just did not have any of things Mr. Woods usually brings to the table, no real drama, no suspense and no action. I want the real Stone Barrington back!! I never thought I'd say this but this was the first Stuart Woods' novel that I didn't love only liked (a little)....
Rating: Summary: Big Disappointment! Review: What a disappointment! The plot goes nowhere, the dialog is boring and unrealistic, the characters have about as much depth as the piece of paper on which the book is written. I have read most of Stuart Woods' books and eagerly ordered this one, but it will certainly be the last one of his books I ever order.
Rating: Summary: Is Stone losing his touch? Review: (I mean, he only conquests one lady this time!) OK, so maybe this is not a literary masterpiece, but it's a great read. Stone Barrington manages, yet again, to thoroughly complicate a simple (well, not so simple) I-met-this-girl-and-I-want-to-see-her-again-but-I-don't-know-her-name-or-address case and make an amusing mess out of it, implicating some of the characters from his previous cases. Amusing read, a page turner, more or less neat finish. I can't wait for to read what happens next!
Rating: Summary: Another great Stone Barrington story Review: I don't agree with several of the previous reviewers on this book. I loved it!! I was introduced to Stuart Woods books several years ago and became an instant fan of his writing, characters and story lines. I thoroughly enjoy the Stone Barrington stories and find his character to be full of fun, charisma with the ladies, probably quite handsome as well as intelligent and well schooled in detective work as well as the law. He's a woman's man for all ages----and very loveable. I'd love to read more of him with this story's "lady" Callie. They sound quite "hot" together. Perhaps this story line will be carried into the next novel as Arrington continues in the stories. It's always a great read-----and a perfect book for that outdoor hammock or beach chair. I'll look forward to the next Stuart Woods book and just know that I won't be disappointed. I haven't been yet. Enjoy a good read.
