Rating: Summary: G R E A T but... Review: I cannot say that this book is anything but GREAT but I had to rate it three stars because the chapters:1. The signs of deception are easy to understand and follow but cannot be reliable to judge someone... you need more proof! 2. Becoming a Human Lie Detector: some detectors are already built-in in our minds and were used even when we were kids. Some are easy to be applied... AND SOME ARE SO GREAT... but others cannot be used except in court or if you really want to destory the relationship! 3. Tactics: are good detectors and can easily apply in casual conversations which I found to be very useful. 4. Mind Games: I found to be good but not highly powerful. 5. Advanced Techniques: ahhh maybe this chapter needs a smarter man than me! This is the most difficult chapter to apply but could be the best to be used by detectives/lawyers... etc. 6. Psychology On Your Side: I found this chapter to be very good, and analytic. 7. Internal Truth Blockers: This covers when we allow our emotions to take control, very reasonable analysis. 8. External Truth Blockers: if you are the kind of person who get easily fooled by salesmen or cheer leaders or lap dogs, then this chapter rings the bell every time one tries to fool you again! In summary this book for sure helps to detect and even prevent a lie from taking place. This book even helps you to pull out the truth. To normal people, this book is very useful. To detectives\lawyers... this book is a MUST!
Rating: Summary: Not very nice Review: Author was pretty mean. He said stuff like lie to get other people to tell the truth. Didn't like that.
Rating: Summary: Tried and true hidden techniques to get to the truth Review: This book shows you how to get to the truth using techniques that the subject will not even be aware are being used against them. This book is broken down into 8 basic sections. Each section gets more advanced on methods to get to the truth. After you read this book you will be able to determine if someone is being completely truthful with you in a matter of minutes. You learn how to structure your questions, what body language to look for and audible clues. You learn what is often not spoken is as important as what is spoken. Remember people generally want to be honesty unless they feel justified in their own minds. Its up to you to determine their ulterior motives if you feel they are not being honest with you.
Rating: Summary: Never be lied to again Review: A sick and cynical book. Listened to the audio version. and had to force myself to listen to the end. A laundry list of signs indicating lying, and manipulative techniques to feret out the truth, many of which are inadequtely explained. Perhaps useful for professionals used to dealing with criminals and cronic liars, but in general an ugly and depressing view of human nature. A real downer! Try "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" for more useful approach to dealing with human relationships, and avoiding being lied to in the first place.
Rating: Summary: It is a great book to get the general idea, but not in depth Review: Probably if you are reading this review, you are wondering, does this book really work? Can you find out the truth in 5 mins or less? Is it Easy to understand? My answer is, to a certain degree is yes! To answer the first question, the techniques in this book does work. The author only provided a limited number of examples in the book to show you how it works and left the rest for you to think up. An example would be to see if a person is lying. Ask the question directly to his/her face and ask her to repeat it while you are watching for her eye, and body movement. For the second question, you can't find out the truth in 5 mins or less! Some technique, in order for you to tell if the person is lying, you have to prep. and this can take time. For the third question, yes this book is easy to understand. The author provided numerous example that are easy to follow.
Rating: Summary: A Good Investment Review: This work has numerous techniques for any person to use in getting to the truth. Some of these techniques are obvious and others need further study. If you are expecting to read the book and immediately use the techniques effectively, you will be disappointed. As with most jackets on books, boastful promises and claims on this work are similar to the late night info commercials seen on cable TV. I have been studying NLP, nonverbal communication, and personality styles for 34 years and found the author's approach at times confusing and scattered. It takes practice and patience to learn these methods. There is no "5 minutes to the truth" in the real world. However, Dr. Lieberman does have numerous practical examples and scenarios to guide the reader in the life long process of understanding yourself and others. Read the book; it is a good investment!
Rating: Summary: Corrections Officer Review: This is a very good book. I use it to find out information about inmates just about every day. Anyone who is in the business of getting at the truth will find this book invaluable. Especially when it can be a matter of life and death. Great solid techniques fill the book. Anyone who complains about this book doesn't live in the real world. This book is invaluable. A wealth of information
Rating: Summary: Avoid this book! Review: The purpose of this book is to teach you how to detect lying. But in order to do that, this book teaches you to become a liar yourself. I couldn't use most of these techniques without feeling completely manipulative and dishonest, and since I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of that, I'll use my own intuition instead, as faulty as it may be.
Rating: Summary: Send 'em straight to the gas chamber! Review: Great, great book! Every pin-head cop in America will now believe that he can tell who's lying and then trick a confession out of them too! How grand! Like the Loss Prevention Specialist above, every minimum wage security guard in the country can now have probable cause to search anyone who might suffer from anxiety or any number of other medical ailments or cultural tendencies! This book may change your life alright...It may help put you into prison!
