Summary: Much better than Bloomability.
Review: Sharon Creech has a special ability to touch the hearts of young girls. This is a story in which she uses several writing techniques to tell a poignant and powerful story of one young girl searching for her place in the world, and coming to terms with her difficult past. The story is particularly effective in the use of dual diaries, written by Sophie and her cousin Cody, which give the reader two revealing perspectives on the past and the present. Also delightful was the writing technique of Sophie's stories - told with a fable-like eloquence - of her 'memories' of a beloved grandfather. As an adult, I had serious questions aout the wisdom of the decisions made by the adults in the book (allowing Sophie to undertake the cross-Atlantic sail in the first place, not dealing with Sophie's inability to understand and accept her history)but the story is one that speaks well to the imagination and spirit of adventure of young girls. The Wanderer is an excellent choice for Mother/Daughter groups, with many opportunities for discussion on the craft of writing, and the importance of finding one's place in the spectrum of family and the world.

Review: The Wanderer by Sharon Chreech. This book is about a thirteen year old, Shopie,who is the only girl in the crew of the Wanderer. The other crew members are her close three uncles.Uncle stew,Uncle Mo,Uncle Dock,plus her two cousins,Brian,and Cody.
They're going to England so they can send it back to their gradfather. But first they have to go through the courageous
Atlantic ocean. Shopie's cousin Cody doesn't know why his father took him on this trip. Everyone, including his dad thinks Cody is a knuckle head doofus. Cody wants to prove to his dad that he's not a knucle head doofus. Sophie wanted an adventure and she got a GREAT,GREAT adventure. Newberry award winner made a courages book and I love it. I think this book is for ages 8 and up.

Review: Sharon Creech wrote an excellent story in The Wanderer, which is filled with much adventure and excitement, which makes it an exceptional book. It is a well-written novel that tells of the joys and sorrows of a sailing voyage, told through both the eyes of a teenage boy and a teenage girl.
Being on a sailing voyage is different for everyone who is on board. Some find it boring; others find it an adventure, like Sophie did. She always hears the sea calling her name. Sophie and the rest of the crew, Mo, Dock, Stew, Cody, and Brian embark on a voyage across the ocean, filled with adventure. They embark on a journey that brings them closer to each other, and closer to themselves. Sharon Creech beautifully tells of their amazing story in The Wanderer.
The excitement and adventure in the storyline is part of why it was such a good book. It was exciting and adventurous because there were a lot of plot twists. There are a few big surprises at the end of the book. I cannot speak of them now, but I can tell you that it was very exciting, and it really grabs your attention. There are a lot of thrills in the book. For example, on the boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the weather brings some excitement to the story. I would recommend this to boys or girls in grades four through seven. This is a pretty long book, but it is written in a way that makes it easy and enjoyable to read. I would also recommend this to an advanced reader who is looking for a book that they could read easily and quickly. In my point of view, it is a daring and inspiring story, and a worthwhile book to read.
To sum up my thoughts, this is a great book. It is filled with all of the adventure of a sailing voyage, but with two points of view. Sharon Creech gracefully tells of their extraordinary story in The Wanderer.

Review: The Wanderer
In this book there is two main characters; Sophie and Cody. They are cousins but of different gene pools. Sophie was adopted when she was little. She's what you would call a three sided person. One side is dreamy and romantic, another side is logical and down to earth, and the other side is hard headed and impulsive. Cody, on the other hand, is very frivolous. He always was fooling around and didn't take things seriously.
Sophie was always dreaming of sailing across the ocean. When her Uncle Dock (Sophie's favorite) told her that she could go with him on a journey across the ocean to see his father, Bompie, Sophie plead to her parents. Her mother decided to let her go knowing she would be safe. When Sophie set off, she didn't know what she was dealing with. On her trip everybody had to teach the crew something. Sophie told stories that she heard from Bompie when she was little. Cody, the knuckle head, showed juggling. Everybody else (Sophie's Uncles and other cousins) taught sailing. But nobody knew about the fierce storm ahead.
I find it very unique that Sharon Creech writes the book from a different point of view. She had you read from Sophie's and Cody's journals. Sometimes things are repeated but I like her style because it's different. I would recommend this book to anybody. It is exciting and you'll never want to put it down. I usually don't like these kind of books but this was great.

Review: I just finished reading this book, I think that this was one of Creech's best. I couldn't put the book down. It was so good and upbeat, and it kept you wondering what would happen next. I am not very interested in sailing but it was still excellent. I would suggest it to any person.

Review: An orphan named Sophie, her two cousins, and two uncles sail on a journey and face many challenges on the way in "The Wanderer". Wanting to see her grandfather, she rides with them, not to mention she loves sailing. Across the ocean is a long way and will take a lot of time. So why not try to get better acquainted? Each of them searches deep inside and finds their talent, trying to teach or tell the others how. Sophie knows so much about boats, and everyone thinks she doesn't because she's just a little kid. Sophie couldn't ignore the sea: the calling waves, the wind in your ears. Sharon Creech's style of writing captured many people's imagination because she wrote this very vividly. It captured mine and kept me enjoying reading The Wanderer. The Wanderer won the Newberry Honor Award medal and makes you feel sad toward the end. Creech's daughter actually journeyed across the ocean and inspired this story. It is a great book for all ages.

Review: i loved this book. it used great adjectives and expressive words and ou really felt like you were in that boat and storm with sophie and cody. the only problem with it was that it said my teacher(sr rosalie)'s name in it. lol just kidding.

Review: Have you ever stop and think if you accomplished your dreams? Sophie did, she had her journey through the Atlantic Ocean toward England. I really recommend this book to everyone who needs help to accomplish their dreams. This book is very interesting, it shows how female can do mans jobs to how to over passed boundaries in life. So if you need help how begin your journey read this book.

Other times it is sunny and it feels like your in Paradise.

Sharon Creech is a great authour and she makes you feel like you are really right next to them going through the same things they are going through. this is a great book once you start you dont want to stop reading it until your finished.
