Review: I have read and re-read the "Witching Hour" every year since it came out. I feel it is the best of the Mayfair Chronicle trilogy. I began reading Anne Rice when she first wrote "Interview with a Vampire." I have to say that I was much more entranced with the witches than the vampires. I was so interested in her stories and the settings, that I visited the sites in New Orleans this spring. It was fascinating to put real pictures with her words. I didn't find the length daunting at all, as many have complained. I was caught-up in the story from page one. I look forward to reading her newest book.

Summary: The chronicle of an amazing family of women
Review: With a minor in history, I often wish history was told this well. Anne Rice paints a potrait of words with her tale of 13 remarkable and tragic women move through history with the help, and the curse of a dedicated spirit and a group of equally dedicated scholars of the Talamsca. All the more entrancing, the storyteller allows you multiple perspectives as a scholar, a lover, a witch, and a spirit. By far her best work and I highly reccommend the book and visiting First and Chesnut in New Orleans to be even more awed by the tale.

Review: This is by far the best Rice novel ever. I have read everything she has written and still love this on the most. I read this years ago, and when I think of Rice, The Witching Hour always comes to mind first. It is seductive and mysterious. This book had me wishing I was a witch. A page-turner that keep me up nights. This one is a must read.

Review: Sometimes the values your parents instill in you backfire. Like always seeing a task through to the end. I wish I had given up on this book after the first hundred pages. The story could be told in approximately that many if Ms. Rice could have eliminated half of the lurid sex scenes and the self-indulgent, tiresome descriptions of her home.

Summary: Bone chilling, terribly beautiful
Review: I read this book shortly after it was released- seven or eight years ago, and I still think about it often. I remember having nightmares that were inspired by this book! Anne Rice has an amazing ability to chill the blood in my veins by allowing me to see, hear, smell, and feel every detail of the story.

Summary: You will dream about this book
Review: This book was wonderful. I was astounded by it. The way Anne Rice traces the Mayfair family throughout the centuries is so very interesting!! I must confess however, that I skipped some of the parts about Rowan and Michael. Compared to the family history, they just didn't seem nearly as cool. I loved all the characters from the geneology, and to this day, I have weird dreams about them. This book is incredibly long, but in order to love it you don't even have to read the present day scenes with Rowan and Michael. They're even kind of depressing. The history is only about three hundred pages, and if you read it, you'll love it. I'm sure that you'll be able to see the First Street house in your mind as clearly as your own home. I'm sure you will dream of Julien, who, by the way, is an incredible character. Read it!!!

Summary: Does anyone else have a family like this?
Review: Despite the fact that this book was long, once you get into it it doesn't take too long to complete. I read this book four years ago and I still think about it. For some reason I felt pretty lonely when it was all over. What can I say except that Anne's the best. For her fans I would strongly urge you to read a very different novel by her called "Cry To Heaven". It's also amazing.

Summary: Great novel, but way too long.
Review: I think this book is potentially great if it was about half as long. Now I love a good long read, but there was too much detail in the history of the Mayfair witches and I found it to become quite boring at times. I feel she should have expanded the storyline of the characters in the present--Rowan, Michael, Aaron, Lasher, etc. It took forever to get to the climax of those characters and then the ending just leaves you hanging. I was sooo disappointed in the ending--it took so long to get to it and then what a let down! I guess there is a sequel to this, but I just don't know if I can put myself through this again. I give this book a 7--but somewhere in all the pages and pages of words there's a great story that could have been a 10++!
