Summary: The quest continues After all these years...
Review: Having read the four main writings of Casteneda in the early 70's, back when most of us did inhale, and then reading them again twenty years later, I am still moved by the wisdom and pointed simplicity of these books. The quest for knowledge is a path which is lifelong, which few of us ever achieve to our satisfaction. Back when I first read this book and the others, I was a teenager in a blue-yellow haze and found great wisdom in what Carlos had to say. And inherent to my years, I knew all the answers to the questions... Now, and perhaps the greatest gift of knowledge, I ask myself, "Have I ever really known?". This concept is best illustrated by a long ago read line by Casteneda.. "Death is the greatest thrill of all, That's why they save it for last...". The journey is a long one, and we have just begun...

Summary: Important !!!
Review: I advise anyone,to read Castaneda's books in order he wrote them, only thus can One recieve knowlege from Don Juan's & Don Henaro's teachings.Any other aproach to the books is meaningless or harmful.

Summary: Get-Back ... to the basics
Review: After 30 years, when I first read this book, a lot has changed. Castaneda has us doing Tensegrity, and WORKING. You may wish to visit the world of Castaneda, but it won't happen without a hell of a lot of WORK. I must get to work now.

Summary: " a vehicle for a journey "
Review: This book takes you to a point at which you begin to question what you learned and to examine ourselves as we live each day and do each act of living.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A perspective from a decade reading about dreaming.
Review: The necessary collision of Castenada's anthropological perspective with a new description of reality. Even the description of the enemies of a "man of knowledge" is worth the price of this book. This book takes on new meaning as the early teachings continue to be reinforced and expanded as Castenada describes expanding perception in following works. Fantastic fiction or a power vision with great internal consistency?

Summary: Its worth is in its call for action not more words
Review:

All I can say about this book is these words have an inherent danger in them that is dependent upon the reader. If you find the "story" of Don Juan and his sorcerer's way of life informative it will provide your mind with yet another playful perspective in which to judge yourself and reflect on your every day actions. However, if you see these words as truth or a hope for truth they may ignite a fire that will not easily be quenched. In the words of another; " in the search for meaning better never begin, once begun, better finish". Upon completion of this work I hope you have the guts to follow your heart. See you in Mexico.

Summary: I want to believe in magic
Review: What's going on here? Here I am, the eternal skeptic, reading what seems to be a perfectly normal Ph.D thesis from a University of California Graduate student, and the next thing, I could be reading "Lord of the Rings" with Don Juan substituded for Gandalf. AND, AND... the funny thing is, I really want to believe that it's true. Is there magic in the world? Real magic, not deja vue and spoon bending, I mean lightning bolts, teleportation and Dragons. Casteneda almost convinces me.

Summary: A useful book.
Review: This, the first of Carlos's famed series, deals with the his experience with an Indian medicine man named Don Juan. Regardless if ALL of the stories are true, they are helpful to the user of hallucinigens. It is particularly useful to those who would eat mushrooms

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: The journey begins--on the wrong foot.
Review: In this, the first and most uninspired of Castaneda's early books, he seeks a man who knows something about hallucinogenic plants. He finds don Juan, who indeed knows a lot about such plants, including the fact that they are (only) minor aids on the path to becoming a "man of knowledge." Unfortunately, Castenada doesn't figure this out, doesn't understand what is going on, and generally gets scared and confused by the mess he's gotten himself into. Readers are often encouraged to read Castenada's books in order, and that certainly makes sense, but this first one can (and should) be safely skipped.

Summary: A new understanding for the love of Peyote and Mescalito.
Review: Carlos Castaneda's "The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui way of Knowledge" is a vivid yet dark and spiritually disturbing novel of Carlos' experience with the teachings of the Indian Yaqui knowledge led by his mentor Don Juan. Carlos Castaneda takes us through his own spiritual journey to become "a man of knowledge" being the strongest and fearless man with a heart to love. His expressive writing allows you to become engulfed in his mind and to feel his emotions. Brilliantly done, this novel has moved many and will continue to do so as Carlos Castaneda and his experience makes each and every one of his readers question their own spiritaul guidance, and maybe one day have the desire to become a man of knowledge. "For me there is only the traveling on paths that have a heart, on any path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel, looking, looking breathlessly." -Don Juan
