Rating: Summary: liked it but not ready to go all the way! Review: This book was enlightening and easy to read. Although I agree and practice many of the techniques (already) there were some new options for me to incorporate into my lifestyle.I truly believe that people are the catalyst in their own health and Andrew Weil promotes that idea of thinking. It is also disappointing to know that in this day and age that the government continues to allow so many un-natural products to be on the market in our foods. In general I think this book has many good ideas for people who simply want to be more educated about how they live their lives. Eating better food, exercising and meditation are all good life practices - this book can help you decide how to incorporate all those factors (and many others if they feel right to you).
Rating: Summary: Excellent book, great help Review: This is a great book, full of helpful information on becoming healthy. I have made a lot of small, but meaningful changes in my life because of it. I wonder if the people trashing the book even read it, since the best they could come up with was making fun of the way Doctor Weil looks. That's so ridiculous! You don't have to like the man's beard to learn from this truly great text. Many of the points he makes are common sense, but you just don't bother to think about them unless someone points them out. That's what Dr. Weil has done here. I have not made these changes in eight consecutive weeks, I'm still slowly phasing them in. This book is not simply a diet, it's a complete lifestyle change. You can except as much or as little of it as you want, but even if you one take one or two points from each week (chapter) into your life, I think this book is worth the purchase. I'm looking forward to reading his other books now, starting with Spontaneous Healing.
Rating: Summary: Excellent guide on ways to take control of personal health. Review: This is an excellent guide to illustrate to the masses that we are in control of personal well-being and not the medical establishment. The medical establishment has survived and profited from people's naive outlook regarding what is "good" for our health. The time has come where the laisezz-faire attitude of 'Just fix it' does not guarantee feasible and immediate results. We have found that the professionals don't always have the answers and that it is our own responsibility to maintain and use preventative techniques mitigate the onset of serious problems. This book helps illustrate active ways in which we can each take control over aspects of our well-being and in turn implement preventative/maintenance methods which facilitates all aspects of health.
Rating: Summary: Common sense approach to health Review: This is the best book on diet and health I have ever read. Dr. Weil avoids gimmicks like most other health books and sticks to what is basically the most common sense approach to healthy living I have ever read. The closest Dr. Weil comes to anything remotely unusual is his strong belief in using supplements.
Rating: Summary: . Review: This is the sanest, most practical book I've ever read about holistic living. Dr. Weil is non-judgmental and refreshingly straightforward. Anyone can make the small, but significant, changes he suggests. This is do-able for people who are genuinely interested in positive life changes. This book changed my life
Rating: Summary: The Dishonest book of truth Review: This man is a a pinicle of currption. He is though his book attempting to tell uneducated bumpkins that they should give money to his ideas insted of the medical profession. He makes it quite obvious where his beliefs lie rather then being a true impartial doctor dedicated to giving all the true facts. Also he looks like a chipmunk!
Rating: Summary: Great Writer-Researcher-Lecturer! Review: This writer is supurb in his craft! The information is vast and undeniably useful to many people who can understand the need for these types of works. The man is a terrific researcher and an incredible Lecturer! Good going! A read that should be on everyone's shelf!
Rating: Summary: Not bad Review: Weil outlines a fairly easy program to improve your health. It's nothing earth shattering, and involves moderate exercise, eating more fruits and vegetables, and taking antioxidants. Being a physician I would have liked some well done scientific research showing that these things are effective, rather than being asked to take them at face value, but there's nothing far fetched about diet, exercise, meditation etc. He does get a little carried away talking about pesticides in food, the dangers of sleeping with a clock radio on your night stand etc, but I'm willing to overlook that stuff. I think for anyone who doesn't do the things he speaks of, this gradual program could get them doing a lot of it. Of course, it still remains to be seen whether this will improve my health over the long term, and, of course, we won't really ever know, but the program is easy enough that if it doesn't help me not much will have been lost.
Rating: Summary: This book helps you regain your verve toward daily living. Review: Weil's 8 week health renewal plan allows you to take small steps toward your overall goal of weight loss and better health. In changing my eating habits and exercising more, I have more energy to enjoy my family and co-workers. Weil's 8 step plan is easy to follow and keeps you in harmony with your mind and body. What distinguishes this health book from the others is that it offers steps on how to enpower yourself. Weil's book is not just about changing your diet; Weil insists that you improve your relationships with people and encourages you to enjoy art and nature
Rating: Summary: Easy Step by Step to Better Health Review: Well-written and concise, this book is a great "starter" for those who want to make healthy life changes without totally changing their lives. Dr. Weil keeps his advice simple and do-able, combining insight from Western and Eastern medicine with good old fashioned common sense. The program is broken down into small changes implemented weekly and then built upon or varied on as the program progresses. The information in this book is easy to read and implement. Great for managers and professionals, but also for anyone with a tight time budget.
