Rating: Summary: Finally, a life-style health program I can live with Review: For years I have been searching for a life-styles health program that attends to mind, body and spirit AND does not preach to me about the evils of this that or the other thing. Dr. Weil realizes that we all have cravings and weaknesses, such as caffeine or chocolate, and helps us to work with them instead of denying them. I am on week 6 and while I have trouble doing everything - I am a student and cannot really afford organic vegetables in the Mid-West, I find the walking, breathing and vitamins to have made a major change in my life. I am sleeping better than ever, suffering almost no depression and people find me downright perky 95% of the time. Yippee
Rating: Summary: Searching for years and it only takes 8 Weeks! Review: For years I have search for a program that would lead me back to eating healthy without just having to eat fiber, bran and nuts. I have just started reading Dr. Weil's book and can truly say that it's a practical and common sense type of program for getting the most out of your body's natural healing power. This book covers not only diet, but the physical and emotional aspects of life which have as much of an impact on Optimum Health.
Thank you Andrew Weil, M.D. I can't say thanks enough for giving me back my health.
Rating: Summary: Practical, scientifically sound, and doable Review: I am a scientist and have read Dr. Weil's work and found that it is scientifically accurate. His suggestions are in keeping with the newest findings and thought in the medical professions relating to healthy lifestyle. He breaks it down and makes nutritional science easier to understand and put to use. If you are looking a more in-depth explanation of the biochemical underpinnings of his advice, try the first few chapters of "Eating Well for Optimum Health." This book is a great way to put his well-grounded ideas into practice. As with all health-related books though, I think it is important to read a variety of respected sources. Dr. Zorba Paster is another great auther to read in this field.
Rating: Summary: A strange author Review: I believe in the power of the mind in healing. That said, I fear people who are in real trouble and riddled with fear will read this book and not seek medical care. A healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude will have a very strong influence on your health and the outcome or course of any disease process. That said, until we are able to unlock the secrets of the brain that control self-healing, your doctor is your best bet. Hiding your head in the sand and shopping health food stores for "magic" potions is very dangerous. Not only can you miss an opportuinity for early intervention in a disease process, but you may poison yourself with "herbs", etc. from health food stores that are lethal in combination or inappropriate doses. In a few words----"Proceed With Caution" and don't believe everything you read---an M.D. behind someone's name does not guarantee good or accurate advice.
Rating: Summary: The doctors first two books were GREAT ! This one is well.. Review: I devoured DR. Weil's first book. It was full of usefull information. The second book was interesting. This book is just like all the other optium health books on the market. I am dissapointed. However there were some good recipies and ideas to ponder
Rating: Summary: Best book in the market! Review: I followed Dr. Weill's 8 week program and I could honestly say that it changed my life in drastic ways. I applied some of his theories on my son who suffered chronic ear infections, and saw the drastic difference. I highly recommend this book to anyone with or without health problems.
Rating: Summary: Why the rehash of the obvious? Review: I have been consultant for the translation of dr. Weil`s excellent five-star book "Spontaneous healing", and for this cash-in-on-a-success follow-up volume. All information in this book has been stated in a better, more precise way in its predecessor. The only news in this book is that is not unhealthy to take walks, be good to yourself, follow a healthy diet, get enough sleep, think postively. The most revolutionary piece of advice is, on the other hand, a real breakthrough: Buy yourself flowers once in a while. This will guarantee optimum health in 8 weeks, at least to anyone who buys the book. Come on, dr. Weil, how stupid do you think we are?
Rating: Summary: This Book was the answer to my prayers. Review: I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and cervical cancer. I have been in and out of Doctor's offices for the past two years all to, what seemed to me, no avail. I have tried many different kinds of medications and needed something that would take me out of the chemical rut. "Eight Weeks to Optimum Health" was the answer to my prayers. This is a book that I could not put down I read the whole thing in two days. It is an addition to my library... I will recommend this book to anyone who will listen, but this book will never leave my Library (I'll need it to refer back to) Thank you very much Dr. Weil you are a God send!!!
Rating: Summary: Cheers! For someone who has bridged the gap! Review: I have been told that I may have been a healer in a previous life. It is wonderful to see in print the ways of life that make sence to me. You, Dr. Weil, take a bold, aggressive, and loving way to help us all take one step forward to a stone so far back. Cheers to you!
