Rating: Summary: Finished it in one sitting Review: Picked this up at the library and finished the entire book in one sitting, the same evening. I wasn't crazy about The Notebook, but thought I'd give him another try. I'm very glad that I did. If you like happy endings with everyone riding off into the sunset, don't pick this book up. However, if you enjoy a thoroughly moving story with a peek into the character's psyche--make sure you have a big box of Kleenex and take the plunge. My eyes were red and swollen by the time I finished it. :-)
Rating: Summary: "Sleepless in Seattle" meets "Gillian on Her 37th Birthday" Review: The members of my book group and I really enjoyed this read. It captivated me throughout the whole book. But i would have to say my favorite part of this book, and the part that peaked all of our interest, was the secret steak recipe. We actually had a get together using his recipe on the grill last week. C'est Magnifique!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down, I was drawn to it... I loved it! Review: I thought it was a great book. Usually I read a book when ever I find time, but this one... I couldn't wait to pick it up. And it was very hard to put down. I cried at the end, but it was a good cry.
Rating: Summary: The Sincerest Form of Flattery Review: Message In A Bottle is a decent summer read for romantics. For those, seeking a compelling story, "who cares?" may scream over the beach. For some of us Civil War buffs, Theresa's final message in a bottle may have a familiar ring to it. Compare the contents of Theresa's prose with Major Sullivan Ballou's last letter to his wife before the battle of Bull Run. It was probably the most emotional momment of PBS & Ken Burns' CIVIL WAR Series. The letter is on page 82 of the series book. Looks like Nicholas Sparks is a historical romantic or something like that.
Rating: Summary: A story that takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride. Review: Again, just as in The Notebook, Sparks is able to convey powerful emotions through the writings of his characters. The letters are actually the best part of the book and are works of art in themselves. Flaws in the rest of the book's plot and character development detract from the overall rating but the letters definitely make it worthwhile reading..
Rating: Summary: Way too Depressing!!! Don't waste your time! Review: I found this book to be a quick read and kept me up late reading. I was very disappointed in this book especially after reading The Notebook (more realistic, maybe because it was told from the male point of view). You can tell a man wrote this book!! Nicholas should not tell stories from a female point of view. For someone like Theresa who couldn't get enough time off of work in the beginning of the book she ends up with a very flexible schedule and very LARGE pocketbook. Good career or not, I don't know any single mothers that can afford that much air travel and time off from work. The ending would never happen with an experienced seaman as Garrett was, hell I wouldn't do that!! This book insults our intelligence with the unrealistic chain of events. A love story isn't suppose to make you cry with saddness but cry with happiness!
Rating: Summary: Didn't want it to end! Review: Nicholas Sparks truly knows how to ignite human emotion. It's a wonderful book!
Rating: Summary: Nicholas Sparks moves our emotions once again. Review: I went to a book signing and Nicholas said that people who liked Message in a Bottle or The Notebook best was about 50/50. He stated that it depends on where you are in your life. I found the book moving, and although it did not end as I had hoped, neither does life. The lesson: Don't let love pass you by; when you find it, grasp it; hold onto it and cherish it while you can.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: Message in a Bottle and the Notebook are two of the best books I've ever read. Nicholas Sparks, I hope there are more like these on the way! I've never been one to read romance, but found these very enjoyable to read and hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Big disappointment Review: I had read Spark's book, The Notebook, and loved it. It was very sensitive and well written. I should have known from the title, "Message in a Bottle" that this book would not be good. The title was childish, and the writing was a very big disappointment. As I read it I kept wishing that the author had not written another book. This was not an intelligent, believable story. Now it seems to me that Nicolas Spark just got lucky with his first book and doesn't have the skill and talent to pursue writing. I don't know if I would waste my time picking up another book he might write. What a disappointment!
