Rating: Summary: Sad that some JUST DON'T GET IT! Review: I read the book several weeks before the movie came out. I believe that the are many good differances between the two. But, the sad part is, that most people cannot understand a love as deep and profund as what is shown in this book. Hopefully, with maturity and understanding critics will come to realize that THEY JUST DIDN'T GET IT! Maybe someday they will, for their sake.
Rating: Summary: EXTRODINARY, EXCELLENT BOOK!!! Review: This book was one of the best books that I have ever read. I read it once and then I just kept picking parts to read over and over. I absolutly loved the book! I went to see the movie and it was just awesome, also! I would recommend this book to anyone!!!
Rating: Summary: A sentimental page-turner! Review: I was a bit skepitical knowing that this novel is already out in the theaters...However, I enjoyed it still. This love story is a quick read but definitely an entertaining piece of literature. If you are a "sap" for romance this is the book for you...not Harlequin material, much more sophistcated and refined. The book makes you want to write an inspiring love letter and send it via bottle and ocean!
Rating: Summary: Boring and predictable with soap opera dialogue Review: I was deeply moved by this book, not to tears, but to yawns. I would give it no stars at all. The characters did not come alive. It might have made a short story for a woman's magazine, but a novel? The plot was predictable from the first page, the pedestrian writing was soporific, and umgrammatical in places. I'm glad I waited for the paperback and didn't waste the money on a hard-cover copy.
Rating: Summary: predictable and diasppointing. Review: I was very dissappointed in this book. I thought the characters could have been developed more and even better. I really felt manipulated into crying at the end. The whole thing just wasn't natural.
Rating: Summary: This is a curl-up with a quilt book. Review: After reading several other reviews, I decided to add my own. "Message" is a good book for a sluggish late-winter day, a warm fire and a cozy quilt. Don't read it expecting it to be more than that, but Nicholas Sparks does an excellent job creating what many might call a "chick book" despite his gender. Some of the reviews have missed the irony of the story and the message it provides. Garrett Blake is indeed a man of the 90s, and he talks to women and men. If you go see the movie, don't read the book. After seeing Paul Newman's performance as "Dodge", that character in the book is a poor comparison.
Rating: Summary: Simple, sweet. . .very moving Review: My first reading of Sparks' "Message in a bottle" was from a Reader's Digest Select Editions anthology. I found the story, in all its brevity, to be very moving, very intricate. I wanted all of it--the whole story unabridged, that is. And I have it. Forgive me for what may sound sexist. . .but that a MAN can write with such emotion is most admirable to a woman--myself, in this case--whose skill in that area has yet to be developed. I did not major in literature; as such, I'm not going to nitpick about the grammar or the plot. I remain moved by the loving devotion of Garrett Blake for his "Dear Catherine". . .and that is enough.
Rating: Summary: A Tearjerker that made me realize how special love is! Review: When I decided to read this book, it was because there was a movie coming out and I usually read the book before the movie. Message in a Bottle was all I expected and more. I laughed, I cried and I found myself thinking about love and losing love. For those of you who are the sentimental kind I suggest you pick up a copy of this book and sit down to an experience you will never forget.
Rating: Summary: undoubtedly the worst excuse for a book I've ever read Review: At first, when I heard this was a love story, I thought I would be open minded and give the thing a chance. What a waste of time. This book is dumb, dumb, dumb. First of all, the two characters are nothing more than selfish, immature, boorish drama queens who cry and sulk at the drop of a hat. If I read one more scene (and I mean it as a scene, because it was obviously written as a screenplay to bilk Hollywood bucks) of either of the characters standing on the beach, gazing dreamily at the water as the wind blew, I was sure I was going to gag right then. The dialogue? What a joke. I've seen better dialogue in a Daniell Steele novel. The writing itself? Please. This one obviously skipped the copy desk and went right to the shelves. IF YOU HAVE MONEY TO THROW AWAY, BUY THIS BOOK. If not, skip it and buy a Harlequin romance novel. Pick one with Fabio on the cover - you'd get more of a thrill than this. I'm actually ashamed I actually read the entire thing (out of pure defiance. Oh, did I mention I'm a masochist?)..Thank god this review is anonymous...my friends would tease me forever if they knew I wasted my precious time on such schlock..
Rating: Summary: reading this book is a monumental waste of time Review: I've read love stories before that were sad, interesting and believable. This love story is not one of them. It is basically a cliche-ridden excuse of a book, full of predictable sappy moments and conversations. Most of the "circumstances" leading up to when the lovers meet are improbable and trite. Don't waste your time.
