Summary: A book I couldn't put down
Review: I couldn't put the book down! I read the entire book in one evening, then re-read the last 30-40 pages again the next day. The book took a path that I did not expect - the best kind. I will be purchasing many of these books and giving them to family members and my closest friends for Christmas. I can't think of a better gift from the heart.

Summary: A book for the soul....
Review: I anticipate Sparks next novel because his first two capticated me in an unexplainable way. When I finsihed reading Message in a Bottle, I wondered around for days with my head a sea of lovely thoughts; this is what the novel did to me. I have never been so moved -- and never so convinced that one true love awaits us all. This novel is simply elegant...for everyone who believes in love, or for those who have been led astray...you will find your hearts content in this enthralling piece of majesty.

Summary: Very touching and romantic
Review: I saw the movie first, and am currently almost done with the book. Although many differences between the movie & book, I am enjoying the book very much. Garrett's love for Catherine is truly inspiring, as is the beautiful relationship between Garrett & Theresa. I am compelled to read "The Notebook" next. Good job Nicholas!

Summary: Two people have a chance meeting and fall in love.
Review: Message In A Bottle was the finest love story Ive read in years. The story is about a woman who finds a bottle on the beach and what's inside causes changes for two people who are very lonely. There is a letter in the bottle written by a man whose wife has died and cant seem to experience love again. The woman who finds the message tracks down the man and they fall madly in love. They are both different and cant seem to change their ways. Due to that they part and the story ends in a sad way for both.

Summary: Beautifully romantic
Review: I couldn't put the book down. It's wonderful. But if you like the Cinderella-type fairy tales, this book will not be for you. I immediately had to buy "The Notebook" after finishing this one. Keep 'em coming, Nick.

Summary: A "nice" love story but not as good as The Notebook
Review: If you like mindless love stories, you'll love this book. If you are looking for an inspirational love story, you won't find it here. Nicholas Sparks' "The Notebook" struck me as profoundly intuitive (for a young man) of the love, sacrifice and devotion that a lifelong couple share, therefore, I was anxious to read another of his novels.

I can't say that I ever felt the depth of Garrett's despair or the hollowness of Theresa's loneliness. Sparks told me it was there, but he didn't make me feel it was there. The characters were never more than cardboard cutout figures for me.

This is a modern novel in that the characters face problems and choices that are characteristic of today's society. Widows and widowers have found love a second time for eons of time and have faced the problems presented with a second coupling. This hasn't changed, but the issues have. I wish Nicholas Sparks would have rose to the challenge of addressing those issues instead of ending the book with an easy way out (for him -- not the characters).

If you are looking for a fast and easy read (perhaps at the beach or a rainy afternoon) with a tear-jerker ending, read the book. It's not a total waste.

To Nicholas Sparks -- This book had the potential for so much more and you had the potential to make it so much more. Please reach down a little deeper into your soul next time -- you spoiled us with "The Notebook."

Summary: IS THERE REALLY SUCH A LOVE OUT THERE?
Review: WHEN I SAW THE MOVIE, I WAS TOUCHED AND MOVED TO TEARS. I CAME ACROSS THE BOOK AND BOUGHT IT BUT DID NOT READ IT FOR A FEW WEEKS. NOW I HAVE READ IT TWICE AND BOTH TIMES HAVE CRIED AS THOUGH I LOST SOMEONE CLOSE TO ME. TRUE, SOME PARTS OF THE BOOK WERE LONG AND DRY BUT THE EMOTIONS SET FORTH BY THE LOVE BETWEEN GARRETT AND CATHERINE AND THEN GARRETT AND THERESA ARE UNFORGETTABLE. I FELT THAT THE FEELINGS THE TWO FELT COULD BE REAL AND WE CAN ALL FIND THIS IF WE JUST LOOK. I NOW HAVE A RENEWED SENSE OF LOVE AND HOPE ANY OTHER BOOK BY NICHOLAS SPARKS MOVES ME THIS SAME WAY.

Summary: Any interesting novel on the relationships of men and women.
Review: Nichols Sparks does an admirable job in trying to analyze a profound issue of our times. However, left with no solution worthy or credible, in the author's mind at least, leaves the issue unresolved and tragically tainted.

The issue facing the characters of this story, is multi-dimensional, but can be summed up in the question, "Can you have your cake and eat it too?" Is it possible to have two strong human beings, who love each other desperately. And yet, because of differences in lifestyle must make very difficult changes in their lives to find common ground that will allow them to live with the other. And when this occurs, does the mere fact that someone has to give more than the other doom the relationship to failure. In the world I live in I can agree with this premise. It is real to me.

The woman represents the urban ideal, strong, even calculating at times, finally inserted into the urban machine ready to her mark, yet very real and capable of loving. The man represents the opposite culture the individual ideal, also strong, never calculating, picking up gold each and everyday that the other will never see because he is real and very capable of loving. The woman longs for the man and the man having lost his soul-mate learns to love the woman.

Each finds love in each other, and that love is real and good, except for one tragic flaw. And because of that flaw they stay estranged. This part worked for me, it was logical, it was an issue which required both characters to give a lot of themselves and come to terms about the nature of love. And for a time, the author tries to hold the course and work the hard issue.

But then the book takes a wrong turn and makes a fast break for the exit It not only changed the story for me, but in fact seemed fatalistically flawed. I found this ending totally dissatisfying. It simply inserted itself into the story, not in the least causal. Just a random calamity that could have occurred at anytime. In life these things occur, however, an author creates his world and by so choosing events and circumstances, creates conclusions in the mind of the reader. The ending's message to me became, "Because the woman deceived the man, fate as the antagonist, would not allow her to keep her man." Because of this, I can only give this book two stars.

Summary: The saddest but greatest book I have ever read!!!
Review: I'm not use to reading love stories but I found this one to be wonderful. I have also read The Notebook and was amazed by that one too. After both books I cried for a good hour. I love how this author writes and the love stories he tells.
