Summary: Will cause you to stay up all night.....
Review: Before it was a movie I read the Message in the Bottle. Heart breaking yet quite realistic for the woman that is a hopeless romantic at heart. Every woman wants a book to end as they want, however, I think everyone will be surprised at this one. I stayed up all night wanting to know what happened to Theresa and Garret, then cried at dawn when I finished the last page. Sometimes in the book I felt that you could see the waves or smell the salt water due to the description. Take the time this summer to read this book...I promise you won't be disappointed.

Summary: give me a break . . .
Review: Upon reading this book, 4 words come to mind: cheesy, predictable and highly unlikely. The story is hard to believe, the characters are too melodramatic to empathize with and the entire concept is a bit far-fetched.

However, if you are looking for an easy, quick read, this is the book for you since it doesn't require too much thinking. As corny as it is, it is still entertaining.

Summary: Good sappy love story
Review: When a book makes me cry it is really worth reading again. It was a wonderful story line and the characters really come to life in the words... you start to feel for them. It is a great book.

Summary: Grab a glass of wine, a box of kleenex and enjoy!
Review: OK, let's face it, this book is not Shakespeare, but, who says every book has to be! It's a very lovely book. It's extreamly easy reading. If you allow yourself remember that it isn't meant to be Shakespeare and let yourself look past some of the, admittedly, cheesy parts you may find a touching and entertaining book that will keep you hanging onto every word, anticipating what will happen next.

Summary: I still sit and think of Garrett...
Review: I was given this book to read after my best friend had read it. She was wiping tears from her eyes as she finished the last chapter, ironically - we were driving home from a visit in Boston. I finished the book in 3 days - I couldn't put it down because it held my interest so strongly. It was a beautiful, yet disheartening love story; a lot like real life. I did not see the movie and I really don't want to. I still sit and think of Garrett; the way I pictured him and how he must have looked out on the boat that very first night him and Theresa sailed. I think Nicholas Sparks is a kind, sensitive, and talented author with concern for the feminine spirit - he sure knows how to touch a woman's heart. - even in The Notebook - another great book. I really enjoyed the book, and I encourage people to try and read it - I feel it's a good one.

Summary: I'm glad I just borrowed this from the library!
Review: What a disappointment! The first few pages (the foreword) were interesting but that's it. The letters from Garrett which were meant to tug at the heartstrings failed to do so, what with phrases like "My hand is hard and your face is soft..." (Oh, puh-leeze!) Mind you, I am not the hard of heart, I cried during the Mother's Day episode of the Rugrats! But the dialogue in the book seemed, well, forced and contrived. Pure drivel! I haven't read "The Notebook" yet but after this experience, I'm not even inclined to whip out my library card for him.

Summary: Teresa destroyed garrett by playing with his affections
Review: Teresa was not honest with Garrett. She played on his emotions and should have been upfront with him much sooner. The ending was predictable but very emotional. Why did Garrett have to die. It's the story of loss and longing.

Summary: Easy read but not too interesting1
Review: the history of a message in a bottle being found after 150 years captured my attention and i had visions of a fascinating story. dream on! What are the chance of 3 letters from the same person being found in the space of 5 years? The story of Garrett and his father is a lovely one as they have a close relationship; getting together for dinnner weekly. This is not very common between father and son. I enjoyed Jeb's attempt in preparing Thanksgiving dinner, going all the way to create a good impression with the fine china and silver and preparing the meal and going to the extreme of wearing a tie for dinner and expecting Garrett to do likewise only to be disappointed. Teresa needs a lesson in good manners. Her response to Garrett when he asked her to give up Boston and move to his town is typically 20th century liberated female. I admire her spunk. I would recommend reading this while travelling, waitinng for planes etc. Who cares how it ends ? The story was very predictable.

Summary: Pass the hanky!
Review: All in all, I enjoyed "Message in a Bottle". It is a very romantic book. I did not appreciate the tendency for the relationship to immediately proceed to a sexual one, especially as sex before marriage is wrong, but the love story outside of that was beautiful. The only other bad thing about the book (besides the sex) was that it made me realize what I don't and never will have, and think about things I shouldn't.

Summary: Absolutely loved it!
Review: Stories like this renew one's faith in love,in spite of a tearful ending. I loved the movie, so I decided to read the book and I am glad I did. Even though I already knew the plot, I found myself unable to put it down. Nicholas Sparks has given us a story about the love we all dream about, but rarely find. Most of the details were different from the movie which kept me glued until the last page. I also listened to the score from the movie while I read--this really added to the mood and made the ending even more emotional. After finishing, I rushed out and bought The Notebook (loved it too). I have found a gem in Nicholas Sparks and the incredible love he writes about!
