Summary: A book for Everywoman to take to heart!
Review: Bad Girls certainly can teach us much! This book is a wonderful vehicle for bible study groups and the depth of Liz's research is astounding! The contemporary stories are a magnetic pull, putting the reader right into the situation. How could a serious student of the Bible not be intrigued? Liz's excellent questions at the ends of the chapters really make you think, too.

Summary: Inspired!
Review: BAD GIRLS OF THE BIBLE is an inspired book that is sure to bless countless women for many years to come. Liz Curtis Higg's unique use of fiction combined with Scripture and modern application helped me see myself, my past and my future in a whole new light. Thank you, Liz, for pouring your heart and soul into this amazing book. -- Robin Lee Hatcher, author of THE FORGIVING HOUR and WHISPERS FROM YESTERDAY

Summary: Bad Girls of the Bible and what we can learn from them
Review: Excellent to help you get your life in prospective with some very famous "Bad Girls". There were some areas that really were kind of dragging (the first chapter) but over all a modern day look at historic matters.

Summary: Humourous Commentary and Thought Provoking Studies
Review: For those who love studying women in the bible, Liz Curtis Higgs, offers a twist with her own brand of humor. Ten "bad girls" are included in this book including the well-known stories of Eve, Delilah, Rahab and Jezebel. She also includes other women that are not studied as often like: Potiphar's Wife (Genesis 39:7), Sapphira (Acts 5:1) and Michal (1 Samuel 18:20).

Unlike other books that plunge into the study, Liz uses her storytelling talents to weave a contemporary setting for each woman. After reading the story, readers are treated to humorous, yet thought-provoking commentary. Each chapter ends appropriately with several "Good Girl Thoughts Worth Considering" questions.

These book definitely provided new insights and was "fun" reading. I would recommend this book for new female Christians and/or for women who just enjoy reading biblical studies with out the (yawn) overzealous commentary.

Higgs continues her "Bad Girl" series with "Really Bad Girls of the Bible" and "Mad Mary: A Bad Girl From Magdala, Transformed at His Appearing."

Summary: Entertaining Morality Lessons:A Little Too Fundie For Me
Review: I bought this book thinking that it would be similar to Jonathan Kirsch's "The Harlot By The Side of the Road", which I thought was a 5 star winner in every respect. I should have read the reviews more closely.

The stories, drawn from the Bible and given modern fictional counterparts, attempt to show us how what these "bad girls" did was wrong to others, but more importantly wrong to themselves as well- thus the "And What We Can Learn From Them" subtitle. While the book has entertaining lessons, Liz is a Christian Fundamentalist and her writing has that sickly sweet feel to it, and I found this irritating.

The bottom line is this: if you are a fundamentalist-type Christian you are probably going to _love_ this book. If you are secular or a more intellectual type of Christian you may well be entertained but will find Liz's constant "Jesus gushing" annoying. A better read for you would be the Kirsch title mentioned above.

Three stars, and I'm still debating as to whether this book will find a permanent place in my mid-sized and rapidly growing scripture-related library.

Summary: A Cute Book
Review: I found this book to have a very fresh, contemporary perspective on the "bad girls" of the Bible. Higgs has a way of dealing with the material in a way that is actually quite humourous.
Then why did i give the book three stars?? The reason why i gave the book three stars is while Higg's perspective is fresh, her ideas about women are not fresh.
Higgs's theology is one in which women are best being the "nurturers" of relationships and submissive to men. So in that I really do not find iMt to be theologically strong as well as potentially dangerous to women. However unfortunately this is the kind of theology that most popular Christian literature tends to promote. You can find more women empowering books if you are willing to have a more academic, scholarly read.
However I did enjoy the style that Higg's has and would still reccomend Really Bad Girls of the Bible as well as Mad Mary if you are able to get past the conservative view of women or you appriecate the more conservative view of women. I also would highly recommend The Lineage of Grace books by Francine Rivers, Sarah and Rebekah by Orson Scott Card, Red Tent by Anita Diamant and Mary Called Magdalene by Margaret George if you enjoy reading fiction inspired by stories of women of the Bible.

Summary: For the Bad in all of us
Review: I found this book very eye-opening and applicable. I saw a little of myself in each of these women and the devasting effects that sin can have on yourself and others. I strongly recommend this book, its funny, interesting, will definetly change your view of yourself.

Summary: Good for Bible Study Group
Review: I have enjoyed this book, although I agree with what other reviewers have said - that she takes too many "liberties" with the stories. However, I am in a women's study that is using this book and it has facilitated great discussions. And we have learned many a lesson from the "bad girls." I would recommend this book for any group that wants to use it as a study guide.
