Rating: Summary: Excellent read with superb characters. Review: I enjoyed this political/mystery. It moves well and even provides a little insight into modern elections.
Rating: Summary: Excellent read for a rainy day or any other time. Review: I have a library of this genre. I delight at each new one I find worthy of recommending. This book is a worthy read for his fans. I enjoyed the book very much and it is a page turner. But the best book I read this summer is your new posting of Brad Steiger's new book, Alien Rapture, where secret government technology, murder, torture, and plot intrigue rule supreme. Alien Rapture reminded me of Red Storm Rising and Search For Red October when Clancy WAS in his finest form. I do recommend both these books to every Patterson fan. Read the excellent reviews by amazon.com customers. That's my yardstick, not the publisher's hype.
Rating: Summary: Long-awaited hit from Patterson Review: People make errors in judgment every day. Most of them are not public figures, so no one notices. Some, however, are. Why does the American public expect a political figure to one day emerge from a cocoon of absolute purity and serve flawlessly as a leader. I'm a firm believer in the "whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" school of thought. Kerry Kilcannon will make a good president for the USA of this fictional work. If this had been a biography of a real candidate running in 2000, I'd say "Kerry Kilcannon for President!"
Rating: Summary: At least it was well written Review: The story line may not have been the best, but I thought it was at least well written and kept me reading.
Rating: Summary: Boring, slow, unexciting Review: Having enjoyed all his other books, I was really disappointed with this one. Kept putting it down and wishing it was finished. Only because I hate giving up on a book did I continue to the end..and was I glad to reach the last page! Sorry!
Rating: Summary: Strong political/legal thriller from Patterson Review: I have to admit, I was a little concerned that I would enjoy Richard North Patterson's latest novel No Safe Place. A plot involving a presidential candidate with a sex scandal coming back to haunt him only a few days before the election? I figure I can always turn on CNN to explore this subject. But any fears that the subject matter wouldn't grab and sustain my interest were unfounded. Richard Patterson's No Safe Place is an extremely entertaining and suspenseful novel. The novel's protagonist, Kerry Kilcannon, is the kind of rich, complicated character that Patterson has a knack for creating. He's successful and admirable, but he's far from perfect. And his past is coming back to haunt him. With seven days to go before election day, Kilcannon is about to get two big surprises. One comes in the form of an ex-lover and an affair that is about to make headlines; the other as a radical and violent anti-abortion demonstrator is determined to make an example out of the pro-women's rights and pro-choice politician. The two plots that simultaneously threaten Kilcannon's career - and ultimately his life - are expertly plotted. Both share center stage and as the narrative shifts from past to present numerous times, we get detailed background information and perspective on Kilcannon. Patterson is no stranger to this literary technique - he also experimented with flashbacks and narrative shifts in previous novels. In this case, carefully woven throughout the action in the novel, Patterson's narrative is a very large part of what makes No Safe Place such a successful novel. Classified as a novel of political suspense, No Safe Place fortunately combines elements from many genres, including romantic suspense, political intrigue, family drama, and legal thriller. For this reason, it's a safe bet that readers will come away from this book feeling very entertained and satisfied.
Rating: Summary: Good read, weak in spots Review: Great story, a bit unbelievable in places. I came to really like the main character and truely felt for him in the anguish that he experienced. All characters were well defined and by the end of the book, I felt I knew them all well.
Rating: Summary: Not up to his usual standard Review: I read No Safe Place and couldn't wait to finish it! It was a long drawn out boring story. I have enjoyed his previous novels but this one just dragged on and on. His next book will have to be better!
Rating: Summary: hard to get into Review: i loved his previous work, but i just could not get into this book. it has been a long time since i never finished a book, but this one i just had to put down.
Rating: Summary: Laughingly banal. Review: Pro-affirmative action, pro-government health care, pro-abortion idealist runs against right to bear arms zealots, pro-life murderers, and big bad tobacco. Love interest is Lara, a journalist described as someone with "great character." She has two year affair with married man, obtains an abortion to save her career, and covers the story of his primary run "objectively." If you can't write the ending to this book after reading 20 pages . . . It always a disappointment to read a book where the author has suddenly decided us Bubbas need a lecture on liberalism. I won't make the mistake of buying his books again.
