Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A little lengthy, but engaging
Review: It drags a little in a few places, and for those who are a tad squeamish, the domestic violence undercurrent may be troubling, but overall an excellent book. I found the political 'insider' view to be particularly interesting, and will leave the reader wishing for a real-life presidential candidate who is not a made-for-TV, non risk-taking empty suit.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Slow, but the end worth it.
Review: It's my Patterson first, and i was a little dissapointed. Though this is the first book I've read in years that hte charecters are so real and perfect that I simply adore them. grate ending, or did I metiouned it before...

Summary: Another Great One From The Master
Review: Richard North Patterson is one of America's best contemporary fiction writers. His character development is outstanding, and his ability to consistently tell a good story is impressive.

True, there are times when this story kind of lags, however it is representative of the election process. I would bet that reporters and politicians alike become absolutely bored with day after day of the same thing...looking in the same place for another story. So to that end, Patterson conveys what it must feel like to be a part of all that. And he does it very, very well.

The negative reviews are thoughtless. And as to the person who said this story is not thought-provoking, I say go back to your mindless world.

Summary: Like watching grass grow
Review: This was very difficult to get through and completely lacked the emotion or drama proclaimed on its cover. The characters are not very well developed or believable and the story line runs very slowly.

Summary: This book was very difficult to get through.
Review: I found myself looking at the page numbers to see how far I had to go to finish this book. I almost didn't. But, I am surprised to say that by the time it was over I actually Liked the guy! If you are at all opposed to pro-choice rights, you might not be interested in this story. I have to admit that the abortion scene was really sickening and repulsive to me. So, I suggest skipping that section of the book! Anyway, although tedious,I ended up thinking about these characters long after I finished the book, I guess it made an impact after all.

Summary: Most boring book I've ever attempted reading
Review: Began the book, but unlike every other Richard North Patterson novel, was able to put it down regularly. I still have NOT completed it and probably won't. It is so bad that I had to get on my computer to see how other comments (reviews) were on this. I feel better since I see others are equally bored. I have read all of Mr. Patterson's novels, but unless I see something better, I've read my LAST.

Summary: Sometimes you get lucky.
Review: This looks like another "guy runs for president and bad things happen" writing exercise. Look again. Patterson's saga reaches for your heart while it unfolds a deceivingly simple plot. His characters become more real with each revelation, through a mixture of flashbacks and chronicle. By the last page you will wish desperately to meet (and vote for!) the candidate, as well as his friends and confidants. This novel would (will?) make a fine movie, one which would offer more than a few great parts for some strong actors. This is such a well-constructed story, though, that Hollywood would probably ruin it.

Summary: Boring; very slow read
Review: This was one book I could not wait to finish. Politics aside, even the story was choppy. Very slow, mostly uninteresting characters. I will not buy another one of his books.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Boring and Extremely Dry
Review: I, probably like most readers, am drawn to tried and true authors that I have enjoyed as a matter of course over the years. However, I feel as though I was misled on this one, in that I was dependant upon the fact that it was written by Richard North Patterson.

Personally, I found the flashbacks far more interesting that the actual story line and found myself able to put this one down on a regular basis.

Quite honestly, I have not, as of yet, finished the entire book and maintain that I will read it to its completion, but only in light of the fact that I don't have another, hopefully better, waiting in the wings!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Pass on this one
Review: This book was almost impossible to finish. Rarely can I not finish a fiction story, but this one was torture. Patterson's previous novels were excellent. If you liked those, I suggest that you pass on this one. As for politcal thrillers, I have read much better.
