Summary: I've made "the connection".
Review:

Every aspect of this book makes sense to me, and also will to you. Our society puts such emphasis on dieting that they, dieters, miss the whole concept of living. But not Bob and Oprah. They provide you with the necessary information to start your own program to better your health and life. All of the stories from Oprah, her ups and downs, help you to realize you are not alone in your quest to be your best. But Bobs' insight and reasoning behind the ten steps is what really makes the connection

Summary: The plain truth about permanent weight loss
Review: The best part of this book is that it "tells it like it is". Yes, some days it hurts to work out; yes, some months, despite your best efforts you plateau and don't lose weight; and yes, maintaining a healthy weight is a life-long effort. Those people who lock onto to the hottest new "diet miracle" like a heat-seeking missile will not like this book! But, if you are looking for an easy-to-follow plan to get control of your eating habits, this is it.

Despite never having a weight problem himself, Bob Greene is amazingly sensitive and understanding of behaviors such as emotional eating and bingeing. As Oprah states "He understood the problem was deeper than even I realized". His down-to-earth factual explanation of the "ten steps" of his program are balanced by excerpts from Oprah's journals. It took a lot of courage to reveal what she shared in this book. As Bob says "overweight people are literally wearing their pain". But few of us overweight people have to endure the pain of reading about our latest size increase in People magazine, complete with unflattering pictures!

If you are looking for a plan to help you get control of your eating, one that balances your physical, emotional and spiritual needs - this is it

Summary: Very motivating, I felt like they wrote the book for me!
Review: I liked how the book was written, like a personal letter, to me. I find it very motivating. I read the book once and started to work out, then had surgery. Now I'm reading the book for the second time to get going again. I have finished my third week of exercise and feel great! I high light things in the book that I find extremely useful. When I feel like not working out, I read some of the book, then I'm ready to go! Well written

Summary: Very Informative!
Review: I am very impressed with this book. It is very informative and is suitable for people of all shapes and sizes. It is geared towards people who have a problem with weight; however, I do not have a problem with weight, but still have learned plenty from the book. Bob Greene is very knowledgeable and Oprah speaks from personal experience. It is written in simple english with very few technical terms, however the technical aspects of weight loss are still discussed. I find this book very motivating and would recommend it for anyone who is interested in healthy living !

Summary: The common sense way to a better body
Review: Oprah Winfrey was depressed and ashamed of her body. She tried every diet on the market. None of them had any long-term success. That was until she met Bob Greene, the author of this book. In this book, Oprah opens up her diary to show her struggle and eventually victory with her weight. Bob Greene tells you what is necessary in order to be healthy and happy with yourself. He talks about his experiences with Oprah and others that he has trained. He gives a common sense approach to a better body and a better life. As Oprah found out, there are no quick fixes. I highly recommend this book for anybody who wants to have a better body and a better life. I have applied Bob Greene's ten steps to my life and, like Oprah, I have a better body and a better life

Summary: An excellent real guide to achieving your weight for life.
Review: I read this from cover to cover in a few hours. Oprah was so honest about her life and weight struggles that I cried at some points--I could relate! Her story at the beginning of the book shows that she is not on a pulpit or out for a quick buck--she has lived it, walked the talk and actually finally got the fat off for good with Bob Greene's help. Bob then talks about the 10 steps--which are covered one for each chapter. At the beginning of each chapter is a paragraph or two about Oprah's thoughts and experiences with that step. She is honest about weight loss for life being tough work. She hates drinking water as much as I do! Bob and Oprah have made this an incredible book, one that will change your mind, make you realize that you can actually get the weight you want. It is a proven way to go--Bob has been a personal trainer for years

Summary: Ten Step Program for the first day of the rest of your life
Review: After watching the Oprah Winfrey show and seeing Bob Greeneand Oprah discussing "Make the Connection, I decided to buythe book and the journal. Since reading the book 38 days ago I haven't looked back.(I've been moving too fast!!) What made the difference between this book and the other kazillion "fitness books?" The fact that a "real" person tried the technique described in the book and showed the world that it can work. Sure, Oprah can afford a personal trainer but what about us middle income earners? You don't need a personal trainer and a cook in order to follow the program. It isn't motivational in the sense that it pumps you up with a load of "you can do it's if you really want to" - it is inspirational in that you just FEEL that you can accomplish the goals by following the ten steps. The comments by Oprah about her day to day ordeal and how she overcame some of the hurdles (like will the pain EVER stop?) really hit home and make it workable. If you have been struggling - but not getting anywhere with your level of fitness - if you have used up all of the excuses as to why you CAN'T do it - read the book. It'll inspire you to try one more time - for the last time - it doesn't get any easier than this. Thanks Bob and Oprah - for a job well done.
