Summary: Too bad Oprah isn't still making her connection
Review: This is still one of my favorite exercise/diet books, and one of the few I actually own. After hearing about how Oprah is now on a "Carbo-addict" kick, it's really sad to see her grasping at trying to find a magic weightloss formula, just like she did in the 80's with Optifast, when she already knows what she needs to do. Don't let Oprah's recent apparent weight gain stop you from reading this book. Everything is laid out and simple to follow (yes, you DO have to make time to exercise but I found if I want something badly enough I will do whatever it takes). Take it from me - I am currently 149 lbs and 10 years ago I weighed 265 - the ONLY way to lose weight and keep it off is diet and exercise. If you are only going to get one 'diet' book, this is it.

Summary: A common-sense plan that's easy to digest
Review: I've read about many diet plans and fitness plans, and have been extremely sceptical. This is NOT a diet. The food plan follows the FDA's food pyramid, and makes sense. It's really hard for me to get in all those servings of fruits and vegetables, though! The exercise plan may seem overwhelming, but it really works. Bob even allows you to have that glass of wine or piece of pie once in a while, which you won't find on other diets. This book is easy to follow, motivational, and works, even if you just want to lose 5 lbs or get in better shape.

Summary: Unrealistic
Review: As an ex-bulimic/anorexic, I have probably read every diet book there is. I'm sure it's easy to lose weight if you have your own personal chief and trainer, but how many of us do? What happens to Oprah, when she no longer has these luxuries? I also worry about the fact that Oprah was trying to weigh considerably less than her set point-how many people are going to do 2 hours of exercise a day (besides athletes)? I mean really!

Summary: This book helped me as a Healer and as a Post-Op Transsexual
Review: As the world's first Post-Op Transsexual Two-Spirit Shaman and Chi Gung master, as well as an author (Chi Gung: Chinese Healing, Energy, and Natural Magick), I have used Oprah's wonderful book to help to get me into the kind of shape and to have the confidence I need in my new feminine body in order to practice the type of energy healing that I do. Basically I spend most of my time helping and healing plants, animals, and people as I am guided to them by God, and with His Blessing, I have successfully helped cases ranging from migraines and insomnia to infertility, strokes, and even ovarian cancer. Because my work periodically literally involves traumatic life and death situations, it is vital that I be in the best shape possible. And Oprah's book has helped me to do just that.

Please read this wonderful book. It can truly make a difference in your life and it can help you to make a difference in the lives of others. I know from personal experience that it has helped me to develop a wonderful body and also to have the confidence I need to walk the path that God has chosen for me as a Two-Spirit Shaman. If Oprah's book can make a transsexual like me into a beautiful woman and healer, it certainly can help you too.

Summary: Not enough hours in the day
Review: First let me say that I love Oprah. I could so relate to her struggle with food. However, I do get annoyed when childless people tell us that we must "make more time for ourselves." I had plenty of time to work on myself before kids; now I don't, period! If you follow Bob's rules for warm up, stretch, warm up (again), work out, cool down, stretch (whew!) you'll be taking at least an hour a day for yourself. If you have kids and you work, Bob, it ain't happening. I had to chuckle when Oprah said she would have to wake up an hour earlier (5:00am) to fit a work out into her busy schedule. I've been getting up at 5:00am for the last 7 years (since kids) and that's just to get the housework done. I guess I have to be "more commited" to myself and get up at 4:00am. Was there a chapter on sleep deprivation?

Summary: A fabulous book by Oprah and Bob Greene!
Review: I truly enjoyed "Make the Connection"! It was written in a very easy to read and understand format. Also, when discussing metabolism, Bob made it make sense. I'm looking forward to Bob's next book " Keep the Connection."

Summary: Yes I can!--make the connection
Review: This book drew me in with the personal stories Oprah told. I could really identify with her personal struggle with weight. I read this book looking for another possible avenue for weight loss which has become almost impossible for me. I felt so motivated after reading this book. Bob really helped me to get honest and get going. Working within the 70-80% range IS possible--128 to 147 for my age. For the first time in years I feel like I have made the connection thanks to this book.

Summary: This book gets to the root of my lifelong weight struggle.
Review: I've spent the past two years starting a new diet every 3 days or so, wondering desperately why none of them have ever worked. In his well-written and easy-to-read book, Bob Greene explains how making the connection -- identifying and resolving the underlying reasons behind eating -- can help me get my body into better shape permanently. It's not a magic formula, and will undoubtedly take a concentrated effort daily, but the end results will be worth it! I can identify with Oprah Winfrey's struggles, also. Reading her journal entries about her struggles with food almost made me cry.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The title says it all...Making the connection is the key!
Review: This book motivates and outlines 10 things Bob Green knows what works to lose unwanted weight and keep it off.

This book is realistic and practical. It doesn't promote quack diets. It serves to educate us on the essentials to healthy lifestyle changes. We've all heard it before about moderation, low fat intake and increase exercise level. Yet, with Oprah Winfrey's journal excerpts and even pictures to see her exercising and her obvious transformation from huge Oprah to trim and healthy Oprah, I can't help but get motivated every day to eat right and exercise because I know I'm worth it. Oprah and Bob Green...excellent book.

Thank you!
