Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: My wife and I have read all of the "Prey" books in paperback and we both were really disappointed in Easy Prey. It just didn't live up to what we had come to expect and enjoy from Davenport episodes. The plot was weak, the story moved slow, and the ending seemed fabricated if not almost unrelated to the rest of the book. Even Davenport's character seemed to be flawed and uncharacteristic of himself. We'll think twice before reading another Davenport book. This was bad!
Rating: Summary: so disappointing..... Review: I have read and enjoyed all the previous "prey" books...but I just could not get involved in "Easy Prey". There were too many subplots with new characters being introduced continually. There was not enough time to digest each character as he/she appeared. Luke meeting so many of his past lovers was also a bit too much. He seemed quite unfocused. It was a real struggle to get through this book...something unheard of in a "prey book"...what a disspointment!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Writing, Tough Topic Review: John Sandford writes a good book and tells a good story. This book ranked lower on my "likability" scale because of the subject matter. He treated these subjects fairly (drugs, models, etc.), they're just not as appealing--at least to this reader--as the plot events/situations/characters in his other books. I'm looking forward to the next Lucas Davenport novel--and hoping the author returns to type of plotting he did in his earlier works. Those fascinated.
Rating: Summary: Great Series - This one wasn't 'Easy' to read Review: I have recently been introduced to John Sanford's 'Prey' series and have now read all of the books available except the newest one. Unfortunately, Easy Prey was the slowest reading of the bunch for me. It didn't pick up until the end. Just a tad dissapointed of this one.
Rating: Summary: I wish I had read the reviews!! Review: I admit it, I could not get through this book. Like others have written before me, I really tried. I finally came to this site to try to read a few reviews to see (hopefully) that the book was good and was going to get better as it went along. Unfortunately, many of you summed up my feelings that this book was really not worth the trouble to finish up. I have read other books in this series and found them to be interesting and enjoyable. But about 1/2 way through this one, it just got to be too much of an ordeal. I read for pleasure and this novel was not giving me any pleasure. I skimmed through the last 1/2 and read the last few chapters. Bad book - dull, boring, extremely confusing and complicated and way too many characters to keep straight. Because I was somewhat familiar with the characters from previous books, I was surprised at how hard it was to remember who everyone was. Life is too short and there are so many good books out there, I just could not justify trying to plow through this muddy field of a book any longer.
Rating: Summary: easy prey Review: this is a great book. it is long, but I could not put it doown. I think what makes it so readible are the highly developed characters, the understated humor, and a somewhat implausible, yet engaging and fast moving plot. Lucas is the spenser of the midwest! Trust me, disreagard these other reviews, do yourself a favor and read the book!
Rating: Summary: Easy To Dislike Review: There was not one character that I cared to follow. If they all got killed it would be a blessing; the sooner the better. I looked for someone on the subway to give this book to as I was half way through it, however, all the people looked too nice to inflict with this rubbish.
Rating: Summary: Not very good Review: I'm sure my disappointment with Easy Prey has to do with style. I love to follow the villain throughout the book, learning about his life and what makes him/her tick. And nobody does it better than Sandford. The "whodunit" style of Easy Prey made for a boring read. The person who did the murders really came out of left field. Sandford tried to make it interesting with Davenport's female juggling, but it didn't work. Hopefully, he will go back to his regular style because he creates great people.
Rating: Summary: Easy Prey is not an easy read Review: I have read all of the Prey books and enjoyed them tremendously. I was eager to read Easy Prey but after 100 pages I was puzzled. It did not "grab" me at all. Too many characters to remember. The story lumbered along for about 170 pages when it got a little interesting. Lucas seems to be burned out, both as a police officer and as an attractive hunk. I am anxious to finish this book and go on to better fiction.
Rating: Summary: A mishmosh of characterless characters--not Sandford's best Review: As a die-hard John Sandford fan, I was extremely disappointed with Easy Prey. Generally, Sandford writes a highly suspenseful psychological thriller, where the reader gets into both the head of Davenport and the killer (or psycho). The thrill is knowing that eventually, the killer and Davenport will ultimately meet in an exciting climax. In Easy Prey, Sandford strays from this genre and tries unsuccessfully to write a whodunit, where he introduces a myriad of unlikeable characters with very little character development. I got confused with all the names of characters and the relationships between them. Even Davenport's personality was not as developed as in previous Prey books. And, without giving the ending away, I thought it was a complete copout, and made me angry I had spent so many hours of my life trying to figure out who the killer was. Thank goodness I have absolutely loved the other Prey books, or this would have been my first and last Sandford novel. Save your time and money with this one!
