Summary: My faith in Sandford has returned!
Review: I can;t believe the amount of people who didn't like this one by Sandford. I have read many of the Prey series and apart from Mind Prey, this is the only one that is actually quite good.

This one takes us into the world of modelling and soon enough Davenport is trying to solve the murder of the one of the country's top models. The opening is great- it hooks you in and never lets you go. The body count in this one is quite big and you have to be on your toes if you want to keep up with the story but it is well worth the wait!

Although, I have to admit the ending also left me flat as well ( I would have never has guessed the killer ) and I don't know how Davenport can go from nothing to captured killer is 5 days, but I loved how Sandford kept referring to past books and well as developing more of Davenport and his 'women' - it makes the book entertaining, not just focussing on the crime at hand.

I disagree with many of the reviews written here & it takes alot to make me happy! Although Sandford is still not has good as Lehane or Connelly, this one is a good addition to the Prey series (esp when many of the others are boring and not well-written!) Keep this up Sandford & I might actually consider buying some of the Prey series.

Summary: Who wrote this book?
Review: I can't believe that John Sandford actually was the author of this book. It doesn't read like a Sandford. I would definately reccommend skipping it. It offered nothing to the Prey series. It never got moving, it introduced numerous redundant characters and went into the last few pages before introducing the villian. Readers weren't allowed to become acquainted with the villian at all. Didn't follow the rules of a good mystery. Extremely boring.

Summary: If I were reading it, it would take me three days!
Review: I listened to the audio book and all I can say is- S-L-O-W start! After the first 15 minutes, the story slows to a crawl. A whole lot of useless, inane information that will later have no bearing on the plot is added, seemingly just to fill up air space. If I were reading the book, I probably would never have finished the story, it was that bad. The third and forth hours are the highlights as the bodies pile up, but the story then ends too abruptly with a character introduced 15 minutes before the book ends. Wholely disappointing leaving too many unanswered questions, and no clear villain. I'm still trying to figure out who killed who! The only redeeming quality is that it filled the time driving from NJ to NC!

Summary: Lucas Davenport's Love Life
Review: I really had to force myself to finish this book. It is only the second in the Prey series that I have read, but after reading Certain Prey, it is a disappointment. I listened to it on audiobook and had a terrible time trying to keep up with the characters. I wasn't able to go back and look up the names again, so struggled a bit that way. Sandford didn't really take the time to develop the characters, which made it hard to feel much empathy towards them. Plus the fact that all he could seem to think about was which woman would he sleep with. He had the friend ( a fellow policewoman who was shot), the model (who he did sleep with), the Dr. (who he thought he might marry if she asked him) and his old girlfriend from his college days. I, like other reviewers, just really didn't care much about the people in the story and the action just didn't interest me. It sounds like the previous Prey books are more worth my time and I'll have to go back and try them.

Summary: Another John Sandford goodie.
Review: Easy Prey follows in the footsteps of the other Sandford "Prey" books. I have all of his "Prey" books and several of Sanford's other novels, all of them great reading. He continues to keep the reader interested and anxious to read the next page. One of the top authors of crime/mystery books. I look forward to his next writing.

Summary: Too Many Dead Bodies and Too Many Girlfriends
Review: Lucas Davenport is called in to head the investigation into the strangulation death of supermodel Aliiee'e Maison at a society party following a photoshoot; the investigation soon uncovers the body of Sandy Lansing stuffed in a closet and the complications begin. As the story unfolds, these deaths are followed by evidence of drug use, lesbian sex, incest, and further murders interspersed with the complicated family and personal relationships of the people involved. Given all the interrelated aspects of the plot, the narrative jumped around a great deal and was further complicated by the influence of Lucas' personal relationships on the plot.

Readers of this series know that Lucas has been estranged from his former fiancee Weather Karkinnen since the horrific hospital shootout in SUDDEN PREY; this is the story that allows Lucas and Weather to have a chance to begin to reconnect. Meanwhile, his former girlfriend and fellow cop Marcy Sherrill plays a crucial role in the story, and Lucas is fascinated by and attracted to Alie'e girlfriend, the former model (who has taken up pottery) Joel Corbeau. And just to add a further complication he is distracted by a chance meeting with a college girlfriend who rekindles old memories (and perhaps more). Another female integral to the plot is Rose Marie Roux, who is still the chief of police and very worried about the political complications and widespread media attention. Finally Lucas needs to call on his old friend Ellie Kruger (Sister Mary Joseph) for advice once again. With the added backdrop of Lucas' personal relationships, at times Lucas and old friend Del Capslock seem even more confused than the reader and not at the top of their game.

I enjoyed the book, and found it a very fast and engaging read. But I read it as a Lucas Davenport fan rather than a devotee of the PREY series; I have just recently started the series and have been reading the books out of sequence and thus did not have the disappointment of some of the long time readers that this represented a break in style from the earlier works. This is about Lucas and how this case causes him to reevaluate his life and his relationships, the murders are clearly a means to that end for the author. Thus, the case was confusing, and some of the elements seem quite contrived relative to most of Sandford's books. Finally, the solution to the last of the unsolved murders and the ending of the book were not as at all foreshadowed as they are in most police procedurals and classic detective stories.

Thus, if your goal is to get to know Lucas, this book does a good job of character development and is four stars on that basis; it includes the usual supporting cast and the expected clever exchanges between Del and Lucas. You will be disappointed if you are expecting a book that follows the model of the previous books in the PREY series, as the many one and two star reviews indicate. While I definitely felt it was a wothwhile read and recommend EASY PREY, be prepared for what it is - a book which transitions the series from straight police procedurals to stories involving more character development and more complex storylines with interrelated subplots.

Summary: I've read them all -- though I should've skipped this one
Review: I have savoured every "Prey" book and look forward with great anticipation whenever a new one is released. However, I was disappointed with "Easy Prey" and felt that Mr. Sanford took the easy way out. It seems that at some point he must have realized that the story was coming to an end and that he had no good suspect, so he had better make one materialize. I am glad to say that this is the only "Prey" book that I would give 2 stars, just about all the others warrant 5 stars. I suggest you skip right to "Chosen Prey", it continues where "Certain Prey" left off.

Summary: "Aw, Jeez", Mr. Sandford
Review: As a fan of the exciting "Prey" series, I have read all previous releases in chronological order, finding both the character development and the tough cases always a fascinating read.

"Easy Prey" features a completely different Lucas Davenport... stumbling along, following wrong leads, confused about his personal relationships. He's having a few bad days, just like the author, John Sandford, certainly cannot have been up to his usual standards when he started this novel.

"Easy Prey" reads as lifeless as the main character seems to appear. The storyline is hard to follow, and even though I plowed patiently through the 400 pages, always expecting things to finally take shape, this book is a huge disappointment, right up to the weak ending. Even without having been part of a series, this novel wouldn't have worked.

The first five "Prey" novels are among the best thrillers I've ever read, the next couple fo Davenport instalments were OK, but "Easy Prey" falls terribly short of the mark. While Lucas Davenport used to be an ambigious, interesting character, his main role in this book is being half awake, mumbling "Aw Jeez" or "Ah man" all the time. I'm handing these words right back to the author, hoping for a new "Prey" that will rekindle the thrill.

Summary: Rename this one "Dreadful Prey"
Review: My family and friends are all fans of the Prey series - except this one! It was boring, hard to follow, was extremely disappointing and was quite frankly a waste of money.
For those readers who were introduced to Lucas Davenport et al in this book, and are now not seeing what everyone was raving about I suggest you purchase and read ALL OTHER Prey novels which are highly entertaining, edge-of your-seat, keep you up reading til dawn and well worth the highest accolades that John Sandford recieved for them.
I think he churned this one out as test to see how much drivel his readers could take and was possibly wanting to take his characters in new directions - Well, it didn't work did it!
Thankfully he took notice of his readers reviews and was back on form with his next one - let's hope he keeps it up!

Summary: Lucas Daveport solves another one
Review: I loved this story by John Sanford. I like many others have listened to many of these stories out of order. I had always wondered how Marcie got injured.

In this story you follow the life of Lucas Davenport again, while he is trying to help figure out who has killed a supermodel. Not only that but there seem to be a lot of twists and turns and different people being killed. You will find that in fact you have 2 different killers at work which makes the story much more interesting to follow as you try and see who will put the entire story together.

John Sanford does a good job explaining the settings as well as the people so that you can create a whole picture in your mind.
