Summary: What a waste of time and money
Review: This book is not up to Ms. Howard's standards. I would like to see more books like the Mackenzie saga or Dream Man. That's what I've come to expect from Linda Howard, not the sniveling weak heroine and Ari Onassis wannabe "hero". Hero is definitely not a wise choice of name but the only name the FCC will allow on the Internet. Linda Howard's other books are a far, far better bet for a good read.

Summary: A rollercoaster ride
Review: This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It created many emotions in me, and the characters were very real. I've read and re-read this story over 12 times, and I have 3 copies of the book. Between the lines, there is a message.

Summary: Even As A Howard Fan, I Hated This Book
Review: This book was a frustrating read. It is definately not one of Ms. Howard's best. The hero was a jerk, and the heroine was weak. I wanted to strangle them both. For a better Howard, try "Diamond Bay" & "Come Lie With Me."

Summary: Worst of Linda Howard
Review: This must be the earliest book penned by Linda Howard. The characters are so immature. The heroine does not deserve to be called hero, the best she can do is crying for no apparent reason. I absolutely agree to the previous reviewer, this book is not worth buying. If you are Linda Howard's fanatic reader and do not want to miss even one of her book, just borrow this book, DO NOT BUY ! All The MacKenzie books, Heart a Fire, After the Night and Dream Man are highly recommended for all Linda Howard's first reader.

Summary: I'M SADLY DISAPPOINTED
Review: This was an okay book. I'll say that much because Linda Howard is my favorite author, and everyone is allowed mistakes. Maybe I should go back and read it over like the reviews say, but for now I have to say this is my least favorite Howard book, and believe me I have plenty of her books and will keep buying them until I die.

Summary: This book does not Glitter
Review: Well, let it first be known that this was LH's first attempt, so don't be so hard on her. Second, most people who like just romance will not be able to look deeper into this book. I admit it really does suck at most points, but it has a certain something because it isn't a regular mushy lovey story like all her others. Yes there the hero is abusive, a little paranoid, and absolutely totalitarian, but those are human traits, and a lot of people (believe it or not, you hopeless romantics) out there who are like that. The heroine is also very human in the way she is weak and I do mean WEAK. This is why the plot actually works. The hero chooses the heroine because of her weakness not her strength, even though in the book he thinks differently. All stories can not be happy go lucky. I feel that this is the only realistic story that LH has written yet. Abuse in marriages is very common. This story goes to the bone and shows how very flawed humans are...whether we l! ike it or not. The only part I really, really did not like in this book was the end. It was a happy ending, for God's sake! What was she thinking?! Anyway, she should have made the ending something like...the heroine snaps and puts a bullet in the hero's handsome face. Or the heroine commits suicide. Or the heroine escapes and they have a divorce. Or the hero snaps even more and kills the heroine, and maybe even kills himself afterward. Oh well, I thought it was an alright read if you weren't looking for unending and unquestioning love and passionate cataclysmic sex that no one's ever really had. This is a real story, if a bit rough around the edges, but that makes it even more real. It gives aspiring writers such as myself hope that one day we might be wonderful authurs. If you are an aspiring writer just read All That Glitters and then Son of the Morning and you'll be giddy with hope, since, if LH sucked at first then became great so can others.

Summary: I'm surprised the hero can walk upright
Review: What a Neanderthal! Usually romance novel heroes are so great (even with their one or two token flaws) that I imagine myself in the heroine's position. However, this is the one of the few romance novels where, if I were really in the heroine's position, I would have rejected the hero early on. I cringed in a couple of scenes (e.g., the scene where he's kissing his mistress as a way to forget the heroine; readers can just imagine that he'd burst a blood vessel if the heroine were to be caught kissing another man). I despise the way the heroine caves in to Nick's demands and consents to become his mistress (yes, I know she didn't follow through---which is another thing that got on my nerves: her perpetual vacillation).

I imagine this is a very early Linda Howard. It reminds me of some of those thin Harlequins I used to read as a teenager.

Even if you're a fan of Howard, skip this one.

Summary: FIVE STARS, BABY!!
Review: What are all you guys talking about . . . I LOVE THIS BOOK!! This was my first Linda Howard book and it's the one the got me hooked on her. I could go so far as to say that this is one of my favorite books (although Duncan's Bride is my absolute favorite so far). I know we all have our tastes but don't go trashing a book just because it doesn't fit yours. Why do we read romance novels anyway? I, for one, read it for the heart-tugging emotions and this one was a real cryer. So what if the heroine isn't an all-men-are-pigs feminist, she's just sweet the way she is. And the hero, well, don't tell me you never had the secret fantasy of a tall, dark, powerful (if not domineering) man sweeping you off your feet, even if it's only just a fantasy. Hey, nobody ever said romance novels are supposed to be realistic anyway. All I want from a book is some emotions, to feel sad when he or she is hurt and elated when they finally live happily ever after. Call me sappy but I'd much prefer that to a cold lifeless book where she is suitably spineful and he is agreeably sensitive. There's way too many of those out there, whose authors are too afraid to stick their neck out and write a great book, however impractical the storyline may be. For all those out there who's never too busy for a good cry with a heart-wrenching story, this is a real keeper!!

Summary: I very much enjoyed this book.
Review: Wow, this was my first Linda Howard book, and already I am searching for others. The descriptive technique of the author was wonderful. I could visualize the location and almost the characters faces. I also enjoyed the relationship that grew quickly between Nikolas's mother and Jessica. The out of control sex was exciting. I will have to be more careful when i listen to books like this at work.(giggling)
