Summary: a truly horrible book
Review: I simply cannot believe that this book was written by the same author that wrote Son of the Morning. I consider myself a big fan of Linda Howard, but this work was so awful that I'm sorry I spent my time (and money) on it. It's truly one of the worst books I've ever read. Both main characters were repulsive: the "hero", an abusive control freak and the "heroine", a schizophrenic weeping mess. The plot line (such as there is) is repetitive and boring. In addition, I was horrified to see several instances of sexual assault (if not rape) handled as if it were an acceptable course of events between two people; when a woman says "no" and a man uses force to continue, that's assault. Don't waste your time or money on this one; try Howard's "Son of the Morning" or "Dream Man" for good romantic suspense.

Summary: I used to agree with the other 12
Review: I very much used to hate this book. Until I re-read it. Somewhere between the horror of the wedding and the triumph of the end, I realized that the characters acted very much with their established roles. It could not have been easy to create two such complex people, but I came to realize that there was no real winner in the fight and there was never meant to be. Love triumphed. They both had to give a little. I hate to say it, but I think Jessica relished her role as victim because it gave her the upper hand, That was her weapon and believe me she used it. I don't necessarily see it as weak, but decide for yourself. I find it very similar to Howard's An Independent Wife. The book has merit. Read it once to make youself angry, then let it settle and read it again.

Summary: All That Glitters
Review: I'm an avid Linda Howard fan. With that said I found this particular book to be unsatisfying. The heroine is not likable. She is spoiled and manipulative from beginning to end. I would recommend that readers of L.H. skip this story.

Summary: WHAT A MISTAKE-BUT DON'T GIVE UP READERS
Review: I'm so glad this was not my first introduction to Linda Howard! I don't care that this book was written back in the early 80's, its attitude between this particular man and woman came out like something back in the 40's & 50's. Reading about Jessica's acceptance of insults, belittling, and domination by the man she "loved" and still have "stars" in her eyes was way to much for me. Maybe it was just the degree of it all. I'm glad Linda Howard has left this level of writing behind her and has written the battle of the sexes with more fun in mind. Don't let this book stop you from reading her newer books, she really has gotten better.

Summary: Forewarned is forearmed, so I didn't expect much.
Review: I've read all the bad reviews about this book so I only rented a copy. Niko is the typical '80s dominatingly possessive Greek hero, while Jessica is the mistreated innocent who (Egads!) cries like a watering pot. The sexual tension was a lot better done than the actual sex scenes--which were little more than a paragraph going something like: "They came together in rapture...floated in a sea of contentment..." The writing style sure doesn't sound like LH, but is more like Sara Craven or Anne Hampson--both of whom I liked back in the '80s.

Summary: ****ALL THAT GLITTERS made me LIVID****
Review: The hero is psychotic and the heroine is a doormat. Those with high blood pressure and heart disease should NOT read this book. The hero physically, mentally and emotionally abuses the heroine. He has uncontrolled temper tantrums. He's a nut with a capital **N**. I kept saying to myself, "Dear God, let me please magically appear in this story so I can put a bullet in this guy's head. Better yet, one blast from a shotgun would do the trick."

Believe me, this hero brings about so many negative emotions in the reader that I couldn't believe I actually spent money on this thing. I have never felt so angry while reading a book in my life. Never. Not even once. On the other hand, I was told that this was LH's first book. Either way, I'm still a fan, and will always be a fan. She's a talented Lady who still has my respect and devotion, but this book, IMHO does her a disservice. To coin a hackneyed phrase, ALL THAT GLITTERS isn't gold, in fact, it's lackluster. In other words, it's a wallbanger. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Amazon.com has other Linda Howard books that are much more satisfying reads. Try DREAM MAN. Oh, and AFTER THE NIGHT is ___FAB___!!!! :-)

Summary: A reprint of an old and lousy book
Review: The publisher seems determined to cash in on Linda Howard's current popularity by ruining it--republishing poorly written books from 15+ years ago is not going to win new readers. The characters and situations in this book are thoroughly ridiculous to modern readers. Don't waste your time with this; get a modern Howard to read and you'll see what a wonderful writer she has become.

Summary: Terribly disappointing
Review: There is tragically little plot in 'ATG' and very superficial character development. The primary storyline consists of the relationship between the two main characters who are, unfortunately, as unsympathetic as humanly possible. The female lead is wet beyond belief while the male lead is simply obnoxious - you cannot help but think that they will make each other miserable and deservedly so. Altogether a waste of time and energy.

I have read and enjoyed Linda Howard's work before and was extremely disappointed with this book. It is hard to imagine that the same author produced the excellent 'Dream Man' and 'Kill and Tell'.

If earlier works have to be republished why not reprint the 'Mackenzie' series?

Summary: Quit republishing Howard's early works!
Review: This book does not, in any way, reflect the talents of Ms. Howard! It is probably her worst effort, although I realize she was publishing to the "requirements" of the time. Niko is a boor, and our heroine is milchtoast! UGH!

Summary: Don't be fooled by the printed date
Review: This book is deceiving because it is listed as being printed in 1998, however it was written in 1982 and it shows. Linda had not yet developped the writting style we know and love from her more recent works. The most emotion this book generated on my part was a desire to shake the so called heroine until she wised up and got a spine! She was just pitiful. The weird thing is that in the 80's most romance books were like this and this one must have been a success because LH is a talented author. However, times have changed, thank God, and the type of man that treats the woman he loves like he always knows what's best for her and carts her around like a piece of luggage is a thing of the past and should stay in the past!
