Rating: Summary: a heart-wrenching classic of gossip, family, morals and life Review: When 14-year-old Will Tweedy's grandfather elopes with a women half his age, his whole family comes apart. In this story, you find out what gossip really can do to someone and how there are people in the world who are just too strong for hatred.
Rating: Summary: The book was Excellent, once you got into it Review: I just moved from a large city up north to a small southern city. The move was Chicago to a city in TN of 28,000. I found that the book really tells you about all the differences they had at the time with all the "Yankees". The language in which the book was written was wonderful. It is all in southern dialect and at times can be hard to understand but in the end paints a wonderful picture.
Rating: Summary: A LONG BOOK Review: I thought the book was good, but it was a little long and it took me a while to read it for my English assignment. It is an excellent, well written novel, but I think it would have been perfect if it were not so elaborated.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Book! Review: Cold Sassy Tree is a delightful page turner. I am an avid reader and very few books move me to tears, Cold Sassy Tree did. It is a very moving book, some sections extremely funny, very inspirational. This should be a must read to teach people just how important families are. It is so refreshing to see life in the south, in that era through the eyes of a young boy. This book should be on everyone's must read list.
Rating: Summary: A great potrayal of a small Chritian town and problems faced Review: Cold Sassy Tree shows the petty problems not worth while in present everyday life, and how they affect life in a small "Christian" town. The irony of people judging others when their life is not together is quite amusing. It is weird to see how people are so involved in other peoples lives that they almost forget to live their own lives, and when they begin to live their own life it's too late and they become the center of attention. It is amazing how characters like Will Tweedy can be both the instigators and peace makers.
Rating: Summary: I think this book was one of the best I have ever read. Review: I really enjoyed this book. I think the author did a great job of recapturing the events of small-town life, back in the early 1900's. It was a very well-written story that moved along smoothly, and kept me extremely interested. I really liked reading it through the eyes of a young, rambunctious boy. Will Tweedy is a great character, and you really feel like you're apart of him throughout the entire book. And even though this is a fictional story, you can't help wondering what type of person Will is going to grow up to be like. Another thing I like is how the author expresses so many different beliefs and opinions in the story. I was also an extremely funny book. I enjoyed it a lot.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful way of combining humor with deep emotions. Review: This is a book that makes your mind think deeply and breaks up the somberness with humor. Anyone who enjoys "anti-yankee" humor with realistic tragedies and triumph should join Will Tweedy as he moves through adolescence in this environment.
Rating: Summary: This book is a captivating novel of emotions and adventures. Review: I loved Cold Sassy Tree. I read it in about three days. I really couldn't put it down. It gave me such a good picture of what life was like at the turn of the century down south. I laughed, I cried, it changed my life. i do recommend this book to anyone who likes really getting to know the main character. It's such a good book.
Rating: Summary: A flesh and blood portrayl of 1916 Georgia Review: Through the eyes of a boy just after the turn of the century in Georgia, this book provides a believable and touching look at that part of our cultural it seems we spend so much time trying to get away from. It's an excellent look at this period's opinions about family and living life. It really is a lot of fun to read and it really does tug at the heartstringsin places. But most of all, you can taste the pickled peaches and feel the fishing hook hit the water.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: This book had everything but suspense. I loved it. This book is at a rank with "To Kill a Mockingbird" definitly a wonderfull peice of work. This book shows demensions of small Southern life, but also foreshadows life in the times in which wre live now. an awesome piece of work.
