Rating: Summary: wonderfully warm Review: Who in the world said that this book is a waste? You're a FOOL,whomever you are. Too much of a CYNIC. Read the sequel too,its not to be missed
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but I wouldn't waste my time again Review: Last year's summer vacation saw for me yet another boring required reading. Cold Sassy Tree was the lucky winner chosen by the geniuses in the English department, and for that reason, I lost some respect for it before I even opened it. I struggled with it for the first few pages, and felt compelled to skip many passages. But overall, I think this book was well-written, wholesome, and not at all a downer. This was a surprise because high school English teachers usually like pushing depressing topics on students. Of course, this book was not without sentiment. There was the whole tormented life of Love Simpson matter. However, I must say I was impressed with the outcome of this book.
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming Tale Review: This book tells of a young man growing up in a small southern town at the turn of the century. It takes you through his daily adventures. He reminds me of young Tom Sawyer. You are given a glimpes of what life was like in a small town and how fitting in wasn't always that easy. I found it very enjoyable and at times even made me think about some of the things we take for granted today that they didn't have back then. It made me laugh and cry.
Rating: Summary: Into the Mind of a Young Man Review: This is a wonderful book that goes further inside of you than the scandals that take place. Mrs. Burns goes into detail of a young mans mind, what he feels, and wants. I would recomend this book to any teenage boy. I promise, it will grow on you.
Rating: Summary: Cold Sassy Tree is a wonderful read Review: This is a great book about a multigenerational family. It is pleasing to see a grandparent as a main character. The close relationship with his grandson is touching. This book focuses on many taboos, racism, agism and sexism are explored in the setting of a small southern town.
Rating: Summary: Top-Notch Reading Review: This is one of the very best books I've ever read, and I've read plenty. Very entertaining. I almost cried when I finished it, because I wanted it to go on and on.
Rating: Summary: Simply the BEST book I have ever read...and I'm OLD! Review: This book offers excitement, fun, emotion. Live with Will Tweedy for one summer. You will never forget it!
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books Review: I read this book when i was in seventh grade. i am a freshman now and i still think that it is one of the best books that i have ever read. at first when it was recomended to me by my english teacher i was almost not going to read it. the first two chapters were a little slow but after that i stayed up late to read more! i also want to say that the sequel is not as good as Cold Sassy. the author died in the middle of writing it and you can tell that the second author did not write up to snuff. you can really tell where one author started and the other finished.
Rating: Summary: Actually I'd rate it NO stars. Review: Staring at a blank page would have been more interesting than reading this book. I found this book near the cash register at my local bookstore; it was obviously misplaced on its way to the trash can. As my eyes brushed over the text on each page, I was experiencing torture. You too can experience this torture if you buy this book and read it! Your money would be put to better use in the toilet. I only recommend this book to the reader that wants to waste time, wants to sleep, or has a wish for pain.
Rating: Summary: A pleasant experience Review: A quote on the back of my copy reads "It hurts to turn the last page," and that is exactly how I felt when I finished this book. The adventures in Cold Sassy told from Will's point of view make for a charming and enjoyable book.
