Rating: Summary: the seat of the soul Review: I am one of the people Mr. Zukav described in his book as one of the angry, depressed, etc. I found myself on practically every page and began to wonder what I could do to change my life. I have never found a book that touched me so profoundly. I have read many self help books in my quest for answers and 'The Seat of the Soul' is the first one to give me hope. Please, read this book if you too are searching.
Rating: Summary: The soul by the seat of the pants Review: A book of revelations,Gary Zukav has performed magic in melding modern ''Western''thought with the Buddist tradition. His writing rings true and was the eye opener for me, even though I was open minded about spiritualism. If your searching for a path, take a read.
Rating: Summary: A disappointing book Review: This book contains the odd worthwhile thought, but it is not worth sifting through 250 pages to find them. Nothing of it is in any sense original. Logical arguments, or any other source of the 'wisdom' presented mostly do not exist. Instead Zukav annoys with neverending repetitions. This book should be no longer than a 20 page essay, at best. Some of his insights, such as the claim that it can just as well take a thousand lives to evolve into some sort of higher being are outright silly: it gives the reader every excuse NOT to change their lives. Everyone can just basically do whatever they like, as his soul Teachers (with upper case T!) have infinite patience and do not judge. Bad is also the abuse of scientific vocabulary, the lack of definitions for most other concepts. What is good or bad behaviour, what is responsible and irresponsible? He relies on commonsense simplifications and is too lazy to discuss the really hard issues. Try Erich Fromm or some other oldies but goodies in humanistic psychology, or even Krishnamurti for some challenging reading along those lines, if this book has not put you off 'spirituality' forever.
Rating: Summary: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Review: When this book first came out, I was working in a bookstore. I bought the book & read it, but didn't get much from it. When it hit the bestseller list many years later, I read the book again, & what a difference. Thought it quite interesting that it didn't become popular until 10 years after it was written. Gary Zukav is a gentle, commpassionate soul who seems to have found the answers to a "soulful" life. Keep up the good work Gary.

Rating: Summary: Know thyself Review: Living a conscious life is the main thrust of this book -- be "awake" as you live your life to live a more meaningful life. As you become conscious of your actions you begin to become whole. One aspect of becoming whole is letting go of the mental baggage that keeps you chained to old bad habits, to fears and doubts that keep you from growing and realizing your own great potential. I found this book to be very thought provoking. Several times throughout the book I found myself saying "YES" to the ideas being presented. This is one book that has masterfully combined psychology and "spiritual" psychology ("how our behaviors and activities affect the soul"). Your thoughts lead to actions and your actions lead to consequences and through this process your soul either suffers or is strengthened. Either way you are learning a lesson, a lesson that will help you grow mentally and spiritually. But you can choose to learn the lesson either through wisdom or through fear and doubt. At first God throws a pebble to get your attention, then a rock, then a brick, then a brick wall. It's better to learn the lesson through wisdom --earlier rather than later along this path. It all comes down to getting to the point of trusting yourself to make the right decision in different situations. "Trust yourself and you will know how to live" -- Goethe
Rating: Summary: The Genuine Article Review: I found Gary's book to be remarkably clear and reverent. The best recommendation I can give is to read the negative reviews below. If you perceive them to be somwhat exclusionary, arrogant, judgmental, cynical or just lacking a sense of good will and love, then maybe it's the right time to buy this book. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: How to connect us to our soul and its journey Review: When you think about it it makes complete sense, we are all one soul connected to each other, but I had never thought about it in that frame of reference until I read this delightful book. My life will never be in the same "rut" as it was before. Thanks Gary for your sensitive, comprehensive, soul journey.
Rating: Summary: You Must Be Kidding! Review: Having been a student of metaphysics for years, I'm amazed at the success of this book because it is merely a rehash of very old ideas--without their original complexity. This book should be subtitled: *Everything I Know I Learned from Plato* (most especially the dialogue titled *Phaedrus* There's absolutely nothing "new" about this "New Age" tome. A visit to Zukav's website may also give one the impression this is about making money, not helping souls. Hmmmm . . . .
