Rating: Summary: Pitiful Tretment of Important Topics Review: This "work" is a major disappointment and a waste of your money and time. Zukov treats extremely important topics such as evolution, reverence, intuition, souls, power, and more, like a college freshman writing his first philosophy paper on each subject. Most galling of all is he HIDES behind the productive lives of people like Gandhi, William James, Carl Jung, and Albert Einstein by claiming inspiration from these great people while declaring that he understands, and can explain, their lives beyond what even they could. The book is replete with contradictions. For example: he supports the theory of Universal Life, as do I, but he definitively and continually places humanity into two separate classes. He contends that human beings comprise a species but then goes on to define the almost non-human five-sensory being as existing as a separate, or at least as a Neanderthal sub-specie, to the highly-evolved multi-sensory human. The distinguishing characteristics, according to Mr. Zukov, are personality and suffering for the five-sensory beings and enlightenment for the multi-sensory human. I could go on and on about the triteness, conflicting contentions, and egocentric conclusions contained within but I am limited to 1000 words - if only Mr. Zukov had also been so limited. PLEASE, if you are new to these concepts there are many great original thinkers who truly stimulate your mind, body and soul. I suggest that you pursue other readings and allow this to pass into the trash yard of junk. Some suggested authors are Joseph Campbell, John Shelby Spong, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Neale Donald Walsch. There are many other authors and writings more worthy of your minds attention then "The Seat of the Soul". You will discover them all during your own spiritual pursuit. God Bless.
Rating: Summary: Seat of The Soul Review: The Seat of the Soul, is by far one of the most insightful books that I've had the fortune of reading. It made me realize that everyone has a purpose, including myself.I would strongly suggest this book to anyone who feels lost. It helped myself and I'm quite sure it has helped others.
Rating: Summary: built on questionable assumptions Review: Knowing that Oprah thinks highly of Gary Zukav, and thinking highly of Oprah, I bought a copy of Seat of the Soul and settled down for what I thought would be a good read. I was quite taken aback when I discovered that the book is about reincarnation, in which I have absolutely no belief. I can have no confidence in Zukav's statements concerning the spiritual realm, when I disbelieve his underlying assumptions. Therefore, the book was next to worthless for me. Luckily, there is a secondary market for this title.
Rating: Summary: The Search for the "I Am" Review: Gary Zukav's book, "The Seat of the Soul" is an impressive attempt to describe the authentic "I Am." I found the book inspiring and I recommend it to those who are on the never-ending quest to understand what "it's" all about.
Rating: Summary: another exercise in pseudo-spirituality Review: This book will give some people the psychological comfort they're seeking but for me it was just another exercise in pseudo-spirituality. I have read countless books on spirituality and self-improvement, and I can honestly say this book is no exception. Personally, the more I question my existence the less I believe in a human "soul" - rather it's ALL soul (or whatever you want to call it - spirit, energy, intelligence, God, Easter Bunny!). Personally, I wouldn't bother with this book and check out Krishnamurti's, Book of Life or Total Freedom.
Rating: Summary: Nice to see the subject taken up again, but mostly gibberish Review: Since the early 1970s, there have been very few books explicating what might be called the psychedelic metaphysic. So, on the one hand, it is a pleasure to see the topic taken up in a contemporary book. Unfortunately, Zukav's book is so flawed, and previous books have done such a better job of laying out this stuff, that there isn't a lot of value to reading _The Seat of the Soul_. All of the ideas treated in this dense and dull book can be discovered in Thaddeus Golas' 1972 masterpiece, _The Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment_, and the latter book takes about half an hour to read, while this one takes the better part of a week. Golas also is appropriately humble, while Zukav continuously talks down to the reader. Looked at solely as speculative metaphysics, _The Seat of the Soul_ is just rubbish. All of its major premises are simply flatly asserted, with no supporting argument at all, and the text reads as though Zukav thinks he is Jesus delivering the sermon on the mount (e.g., "This is true; that is not true; therefore, do this, and not that.") The author is so utterly devoid of any trace of humility that, taken on its own terms, the book is a stunning display of irony. Zukav seems to think that he has some kind of direct understanding of the metaphysical structure of reality, which understanding is incredibly detailed. Speculations about things like the nonexistence of animal souls abound, and, for the most part, they are examples of poor reasoning taken straight out of 17th century philosophy. One wonders if Zukov has any acquaintence with this material, since he repeatedly makes the same sort of philosophical mistakes that were recognized hundreds of years ago. All in all, a very pompous and plodding read on a topic that was wonderfully covered long ago in books such as Golas', and Ram Dass' _Be Here Now_.
Rating: Summary: The Truth About Creating The World Around You Review: Zukav's work has captured the essence of how we actually create our own reality. I've always known this to be the truth, but never have I heard it articulated so well. I've read books of this nature most of my life and have never before found one which explains so perfectly how we accomplish this amazing feat. Many authors have repeated the catch phrase "what we believe is what we achieve," but they never say what it is that makes us believe. Being a magician for twenty plus years, I've learned what makes people believe. THE SEAT OF THE SOUL explains this from another perspective. Understanding how we put ourselves into difficult situations is the first step into creating a reality that allows us to become who we really wish and surround ourselves with the world we wish to exist within. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: "WAY TOO DEEP FOR ME" Review: OK I AM WHAT I AM BUT IO FOUND THIS BOOK WAY OVER MORE HEAD ALTHOUGH I UNDERSTOOD THE BASICS "WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND" AND " OUR SOUL LIVES ON FOREVER" I WANTED TO GET MORE OUT OF THIS.... SO I WENT TO HIS WEB SITE. IT HELPED. WISH IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN A LITTLE SIMPLER BUT IS IT WORTH THE MONEY? PAPER BACK YES! LET ME GO READ IT AGAIN MAYBEY THE 5TH TIME I WILL UNDERSTAND A LITTLE MORE.
Rating: Summary: Fraid to step on a bug Review: Now I don't dare step on a bug thanks to this book! Seriously though, I like what he says and what is wierd, I believe some of it. The soul being immortal? Why not, I feel like I was not only part of the big bang, but am still suffering from it. Oh well, a good book to accompany this is "The Gnostic Jung", food for thought.
Rating: Summary: In Touch with My Soul Review: I couldn't put this book down. I even read some chapters over and over, again, before moving on to the next. I'm a Christain who loves being a Christain; who loves God, the Light; and who loves Jesus, my Savior. Reading this book not only enlightened me, but gave me clarity to things that I could not quite understand. This book gave me a more in-depth understanding to the Word. During my reading I laughed, cried and rejoiced. I can related so much to Mr. Zukav's concepts. Passages and scriptures continuously flowed through ever part of me. I now have a more precise understanding to the Word. It's just bibical principles in another form. If you understand the principles and laws of the bible, you'll understand the concept of this book. Thank you, Gary, for helping me get more in touch with my soul. Thank you for helping understand that I already have the authentic power I've been looking for; and thank you so much for such an awesome keepsake. Job well done, well done! I applaud you!
